Have you seen the latest artwork hanging at the studio? This beautiful painting was recently gifted to us by a long time student Geoff and his family - who have all taken classes with us over the last 14 years. They are relocating to the Bellarine Penninsula and wanted to say thankyou for the impact that Yoga Flame has had on their family. So they gave us this painting, which has been a part of their families home in Essendon for many years, to share with the Yoga Flame community.
Thank you Geoff and family for not just this painting, but for the beautiful sentiment of community, unity and love that this gesture represents πŸ™πŸ»

πŸ”₯ The Warrior poses in our yoga classes, named after the mythic warrior Virabhadra from Hindu mythology, symbolize strength, focus, and resilience.

Virabhadra was created by Lord Shiva in a fit of rage to avenge the death of his wife, Sati. Each Warrior pose (Virabhadrasana I, II, and III) represents different aspects of Virabhadra's story: his preparation, courage in battle, and focused attack.

These poses encourage us, as yoga students, to embody qualities like strength, determination, balance, and compassion.

As Autumn approaches, it's important to understand how the changing season can affect our physical and mental well-being. In Ayurveda, the sister science to Yoga, one of the three doshas (energies) that govern our body and mind is Vata dosha, and it is particularly affected during this time of year.

Vata dosha is made up of the elements of air and ether, and it governs movement, creativity, and communication. When Vata is in balance, we feel energetic, imaginative, and adaptable. However, as the weather becomes colder and drier, Vata can become imbalanced, causing us to experience symptoms such as dry skin, constipation, anxiety, and insomnia.

So, how can we keep our Vata in check during Autumn? Here are some tips:

1. Stay warm: As the weather cools down, it's important to keep our bodies warm. Vata dosha is sensitive to cold, so bundle up with cozy layers and warm drinks.

2. Eat warm, nourishing foods: During Autumn, our bodies crave warm and grounding foods. Incorporate nourishing soups, stews, and root vegetables into your diet to help balance Vata.

3. Stay hydrated: As the air becomes drier, it's important to stay hydrated. Sip on warm water throughout the day, and try adding warming spices like ginger and cinnamon to your drinks.

4. Practice self-care: As Vata dosha is associated with anxiety and stress, it is really important we take steps to look after our mental health. Practising yoga and meditation regularly helps to maintain our mental well- being.
