Our amazing Myotherapists, Nicole Tatam and Nikaela Genio, have recently completed their certificates in C-section Release and Rehabilitation and are your go to practitioners for abdominal scar release.
Some of the techniques they may use for abdominal scar release include:
⁃ Breath work
⁃ Assessing scar dysfunction
⁃ Abdominal inhibition
⁃ Scar tissue release techniques including advanced cupping and dry needling techniques
⁃ Deep core rehabilitation
- Helps with post op c-section, appendectomy and laparoscopy scarring.
Q. How do you know if your scar needs releasing?
⁃ Is it painful to the touch?
⁃ Does it feel lumpy, thick or have bumps?
⁃ Are there sensory changes? Does it feel numb or cold to the touch?
⁃ Do you have hip, pelvic or back pain that doesn’t disappear?
⁃ Does your scar have a shelf or does it bulge?
⁃ Can you feel any pulling sensations through the scar when you move your abdomen when exercising?
⁃ Is your breathing affected? Are you able to take deep breaths?

Angela Mamalis returns from holidays and back to Pilates classes from Wednesday 5/06.
Angela completed the Camino trek and recently visited Tuscany and the last we heard, she was in Puglia. It was an absolute delight to visit. She had the opportunity to visit many hamlets perched high on hill tops; view breathtaking landscapes unique to this region; meet generous, kindhearted and open minded people. Angela has left a little of her behind but has taken so much more with her.
We can’t wait to join Angela in her Pilates classes next week and hear more details of her trekking adventures.

Want to see the before and after of a static myofascial cupping session?
Often refered to in layman’s terms as bruises, these round cupping marks aren’t really true bruises that injure muscle fibers but are actually the result of a vacuum suction force that breaks the fine capillaries under the skin. They can appear red, purple and sometimes very dark purple but they’ll usually fade within a week or two, depending on the person, and may leave a shadow for another week or so.
What are those long lighter red marks, you ask? That’s the markings of a glide cupping technique. Depending on what we’re trying to achieve, we may use one or both methods (and there’s more) in combination with other soft tissue techniques during your Remedial Massage or Myotherapy session to get the best results.
Cupping, a great alternative to dry needling if you’re needle phobic or just prefer a slightly gentler approach. Speak to our practitioners to see if myofascial cupping is right for you.

Nicole has been cuddling up with her favourite fury friends in Bali and then celebrating her 32nd birthday in Atlanta with her friends.
After returning to Australia in August 2023, it had been 9 months since Nicole had seen the people that made Atlanta her temporary home. She decided to go back and celebrate turning 32 with them and they gave her a birthday to remember. The southern hospitality is real!

We’re pleased to welcome Henrietta (Henri) Rennef to the reception team. Henri has been working in the Health and Wellbeing sector for many years as a medical receptionist, in a number of roles with the NDIS and also as a Case Manager with Aged Care Home Care Packages.
Henri is passionate about working towards building a more inclusive society for people who are marginalised by a wide range of health conditions and circumstances.
In her spare time Henri enjoys gardening, camping and bushwalking, and walking her dog

Why hypermobility? Over the years we’ve have quite a few clients attending the clinic with chronic pain and injuries as a result of hyper mobile joints. That sensation of “tightness” you feel in your muscles and joints isn’t because they are tight but more likely due to instability. Regular self care with massage or Myotherapy, stability, balance and smart strength training can make a big difference. I’d recommend Pilates as a good start. 😉

Welcome back to class Jo and Jacinta!
These amazing women met during prenatal Pilates class, gave birth to their sweet babies a week apart, and have now returned to regular Pilates class about 6-7 weeks post birth.
It really gives us the warm and fuzzy feelings when we get to share our clients journey through pregnancy and recovery. Especially when they bring their newborn babies in for us to hold in class. Hint, hint. I swear I’m a good babysitter.

We’re happy to introduce our Self Managed Studio Sessions from Wednesday April 3rd. This session is UNSUPERVISED and all participants must know how to set up equipment properly before booking. Sessions are only available during clinic opening hours and can only be booked for single personal use, not to see clients.
Perfect for:
⭐️ Pilates students who need to get in practise hours but don’t have access to equipment
⭐️ Qualified instructors who need to do personal practise and plan classe but don’t have access to equipment
⭐️ Anyone wanting to get in extra exercise but can’t make it to classes
⭐️ Clinical clients who need equipment to do their rehab exercises
Available equipment to use during your session:

At only $20 per 1 hour casual session or $90 for 5 sessions (expires 2 months), this option is far more accessible than attending a 1:1 or small group class. Passes must be paid in advance before booking. Studio rules must be followed and all equipment cleaned and replaced before leaving.

Let’s welcome Ellen O’Connor to Aware Health.
Ellen thinks of Pilates as the movement you do to support the movement you need or want to do to live your best life. They personally discovered Pilates while rehabilitating from a knee injury during their time as a competitive Irish dancer. Ellen found Pilates extremely helpful, not only aiding recovery and preventing injury, but also noted an improvement in onstage performance.
Their Pilates experience has been varied, involving Matwork and Reformer, and teaching both children and adults over the past six years. Expect a love of the basics, a focus on breathing, and a playlist peppered with Eurovision songs if you join Ellen for class.
When not telling dad jokes in the reformer room, Ellen is an actor and general artsy person who might be writing a solo show, on tour to schools with an educational show, or learning a new accent. Outside of work they have a veggie garden, and are currently dabbling in multi-day hiking with their partner.
Join Ellen for group Pilates this Wednesday at 6.30pm and 7.30pm. You’ll see them a bit more regularly every Tuesday and Thursday evenings from next week.

Angela has been working in the health, wellness and fitness industry for many decades. For the last 10 years her speciality has been teaching Pilates - reformer, mat, barre and clinical. She has run classes in many settings including local Pilates studios, gyms, schools & corporate workplaces.
Angela will be taking over Wednesday morning group classes from 6th March.
Angela started Pilates to help her overcome a an autoimmune disease. After feeling and seeing positive changes to her physical and mental wellbeing she decided to share those benefits with others. She is driven by core values of respect, inclusion, compassion and curiosity. When not teaching and practising Pilates, Angela immerses herself in photography, drawing, painting and writing. She loves teaching photography workshops, hanging out in galleries and hiking.
