Pixii: ‘prevent period panic’. When Nina Tavener attended a Business Chicks conference a few years ago with 3,000 other women, a quick poll posed the question, 'How many of you have been caught out by your period at work?' Every woman raised their hand. That night Nina and Dean Tavener decided to start Pixii. Pixii brings eco-friendly period products (pads and tampons) into bathrooms at schools, universities and businesses.
A certified social enterprise, 50% of all Pixii’s profits go to One Girl. In Sierra Leone and Uganda, One Girl provides access to education and empowers girl-led programs.
Nina and Dean previously took part in Frank Lab. They share their story.

We caught up with Adatree Co-founder Jill Berry about how the idea for the business came about and how Adatree enables companies to access and leverage data through the Consumer Data Right (open banking). Jill also shares her advice for someone setting up their own startup, including this tip: 'Bootstrap, get grants, get revenue as early as possible and delay doing a raise as long as possible.' She mentions some of the highlights of the Frank Lab program, such as having more than a mentor – you have a legal partner to bounce ideas off as you grow and scale your business.

Not-for-profit renewable energy organisation, Geni.Energy, has facilitated a project to install 143kW of solar panels on the roof of Walgett Aboriginal Medical Services (WAMS) in northern NSW. The power (and cost) saving has allowed WAMS to employ an extra nurse.
The new solar panels will save the medical service more than $50,600 per annum – meaning the system will have paid for itself in less than five years. Geni.Energy Director Sally Hunter said, ‘It’s great to be able to help WAMS employ more medical staff, reach their savings goals, and reduce carbon emissions. In such a sunny place like Walgett, this makes sense!’
