Alkira Board Director Peter Harrison has cycled over 2500km and climbed almost 17km across the alps to fundraise for Alkira Disability Services and has so far raised over $32,000. Peter began his ride in Rome and ended in Paris - in time for the Olympics. While Peter’s physical ride has concluded, his wonderful campaign to fund the AlkiraBiz Harrow Street Cafe will continue until the conclusion of the Paris Olympics.

Back in 1994, we embarked on a groundbreaking journey by introducing our very first computer program, aimed at teaching participants basic introductory computer skills. Participants explored picture creation, games and word processing. Little did we know, this humble beginning would set the stage for a technological revolution that would shape the way we live, work, and connect with the world today.

Looking back to the 90s - back in 1992, the world came together to recognise the importance of inclusivity and empowerment for people with disabilities. That's when the first International Day of People with Disability was observed, marking a pivotal moment in history. At Alkira, this time also represents a pivotal moment with the restructuring of our committees. With the restructure, we ensured our residential and day service committees had client representation to allow someone to advocate on behalf of the clients at Alkira.

Our Story

Alkira is a for-purpose organisation that is all about community access and inclusion for people who have a disability. We are committed to providing a positive experience and partnering with the community to provide greater choice and control for participants.

Every team member is dedicated to supporting people to achieve their goals. For us it is not just about delivering a wide range of quality programs and services, it is about building a safe, supportive and encouraging environment where everyone can reach their full potential.

Alkira is excited about the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and the opportunities it brings. We know that people want to be supported in new ways and are working on our service model to reflect the needs and aspirations of the people we support, always introducing new and flexible services and programs to the community.

When we asked ourselves what is the incentive to invest in new ways of supporting people the answer was clear. Better outcomes for the people we support! We want participants to live independently, gain sustainable employment and have access to new opportunities and pathways. We are committed to achieve this by being innovative and focussed on service reform, while making sure that our values remain strong.
