I have also added three croissants from the Noisette Bakery to add a French touch to the Micky Booth offering during the Olympics.
There are three croissants to choose from: Plain, Almond and Chocolate Almond.
Wondering which will be the most popular?

It's tomato sauce making time. These premium quality Roma saucing tomatoes are available in an 18kg box. Perfect for sharing with family and friends. Delivering a couple of boxes today, should have them on our online store for a few more weeks.
One week can make a lot of difference at this time of the year.
The new season summer fruits are starting to roll in:
Apricots, peaches, nectarines, green seedless grapes, cherries and mangoes have all started.
Some items are available as (each) and (per kg), some only by (each) or only by (per kg).
Valencia oranges should start in a couple of weeks, the Navels are still good, but they are right at the end of the season.
Mandarins are also right at the end, a bit hit and miss at the moment.
* If you’d like to order a fruit platter but the online store won’t let you, send me a message and I’ll add it manually.
Have a great week!
Cheers,
Michael
I send this recipe out via email each year, it is my all time favourite soup recipe. I know it is not exactly "soup season" anymore, but one of my customer's has made it twice this "soup season" and has suggested that I post it, so others can have a chance to make it.
Chicken and Pearl Barley Soup recipe:
Ingredients:
2 large onions
1/2 to a whole celery
8 to 10 small to medium chicken legs
A bunch of parsley, salt and pepper to taste
1 cup pearl barley (or a bit more)
Chicken stock
Method:
Saute the two large onions, then add the chopped celery, salt and pepper in a large soup pot.
Lightly pan fry the chicken legs in oil with salt and pepper. Remove chicken from pan, and remove the skin.
Cook the pearl barley in a separate small pot with water for about 20 minutes (or until soft), then strain the pearl barley.
Add the chicken legs, chopped parsley and cooked pearl barley (1 to 1.5 cups) to the large soup pot which contains the sauted onions and celery.
Fill the pot up with water and chicken stock, bring to the boil, and simmer for 90 minutes.
Once cooked, remove the chicken legs and debone, adding the chicken meat back in the pot (also discard the grizzle from bones and give to pets)
* MAKE SURE you REMOVE the long thin chicken bone that runs parallel to the leg (so if you used 10 chicken legs, make sure to count the ten sharp bones)
Add extra parsley, celery and pepper to taste.
Sounds a bit involved, but well worth the trouble
Pure, organic Maple Syrup is back this week, available in the “Pantry” section of the online store.
I’m back as well, fresh from a week off!
Looking forward to driving around Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs delivering the freshest produce.
Have a great week, stay warm!
Strawberries were fresh from the market today, after travelling down from Queensland. Too cold to grow strawberries down here at the moment.

Thanks for returning your Micky Booth box for reuse. Just leave it by the front door.
For thirty years I have been taking fruit and veggie orders over the phone, speaking to my regulars on a weekly or fortnightly basis.
As fruit shops disappear, it's getting more and more difficult to find quality fruit and veggies.
There is an alternative if you live in Melbourne's eastern suburbs.
If you like a chat, appreciate good old fashioned service and want to support a very small local business then give me a call and we can discuss your fruit and veggie requirements.
We also sell eggs, juice, honey, corn chips and coffee.
Of course, online ordering is also available.

After a longer than expected break, I’m back and raring to go!
I’ve made a number of changes that I hope will make the business more robust and able to cope with the challenges that small businesses face into the future.
Staffing, supply chain issues, fuel costs and compliance are just some of the challenges ahead.
Regarding fruit, Royal Gala apples and Packham pears are both new season. Pink Lady apples and Granny Smith are available, but the new season are still a month or so away. Grapes are good, as are the plums. No local Kiwi Fruit yet but shouldn’t be far away.
Veggies are dear at the moment, always are at this time of the year as the Victorian season is ending, and we are crossing over to growing areas in the north. Hopefully the floods don’t have too much of an impact.
Thanks for your continued support and patience over the last five months.
Cheers,
Michael
We are offering a soy-free Plant Based Mince from Flexible Foods this week.
I don't get into the kitchen that often, but decided to have a go at making the Vegetable Curry recipe on the back of the pack.
The package contains the actual plant-based mince which is seasoned with a mild curry flavour. The other ingredients are an onion, red capsicum, broccoli, coconut cream and frozen peas. Rice is not provided in the package, so you'll have to provide that as well.
Feedback at home was very positive, looks like I'll be spending more time in the kitchen!
The $5.95 price tag for this week is a big discount from the recommended retail price.
Have a good week!
Cheers,
Michael
One of the apple growers that we use from Cobram (up on the Murray) has started producing Dried Apple Crisps. Different to the normal soft dried apple bits and pieces, these ones are crisp, more like potato chips. They’re gluten and nut free, 100% vegan, no added sugar, no artificial flavours or colouring.
I was given a sample pack at the market on Tuesday, but they didn’t get back to the warehouse for others to try. I bought a box of 50 on Thursday, everyone has given them the thumbs up.
Our driver Geoff is doing the 100km Oxfam trailwalker in October, and is raising money by selling 200g tubs of Party Mix for $3 on the online store. Party Mix is not for everyone, so if you’d rather donate to him via his Oxfam page, go to https://trailwalker.oxfam.org.au/ and search for Geoff Roberts.
He is in full training, and looking pretty good, Go Geoff!
Deliveries as usual this coming week, bananas still in short supply, but I managed to get what I needed last week.
Cheers,
Michael
Twenty-eight years ago, I tucked a box of fruit and veggies under my arm and knocked on doors looking for home delivery customers in Melbourne’s east.
The year was 1993, and so was the beginning of my new endeavour.
Fast forward to 2021, and much has changed in the world, but not my early morning visits to the market!
Time to tuck that box under my arm again and tell the rest of Melbourne, Micky Booth is ready to deliver to you.
That’s right, Melbourne wide deliveries begin Wednesday 28th April 2021
We are a small family business, that supports small local growers. Our egg farmer personally delivers his eggs to us every week.
Use the coupon code: METRO at the checkout for $25 off your first delivery (limited to the first 100 orders)
Hope to have you on board.
Cheers,
Michael (Micky Booth)
Crunchy red seedless grapes will be available this week, as will 250g punnets of yellow squash.
Green seedless grapes (the Minindee seedless variety) are still available for those that prefer a green grape.
Hope to have new season Royal Gala apples by the end of the week. If not this week, definitely next week.
The Mild Salsa is back in stock, after being unavailable for a couple of months (goes very well with the corn chips).
That’s it from me,
Have a great week!
Cheers,
Michael
