Meteorologists warn that this drying trend, driven by climate change, will persist across South East Queensland. While dam levels are alarmingly low, another serious issue has emerged for coastal residents and businesses: salt corrosion. Dr. David Harrison from the Galvanizers Association of Australia (GAA) explains how the absence of rainfall exacerbates corrosion in exposed steel structures, underscoring the importance of environmental factors in material durability.

Innovative solutions like the Interactive Corrosion Map of Australia, developed by GAA, CSIRO, and RMIT University, aim to help engineers navigate these challenges by providing precise data on local corrosion risks.
