The AContra Team are headed to Club La Vida Salsa Geelong Inc ⭐️ TONIGHT ⭐️ for their social dance event!
Fun starts at 6.30pm with a class from Maxine then dancing the night away with DJ Carlito!
Class and social cost $20. Social only $15.

AContra has two exciting announcements 📣
1. Melbourne’s newest Salsero arrived a few weeks ago and is doing great! He’s listening to Salsa music on the regular and will be no doubt be joining a Rueda near you soon! 😍
2. Maxine is now one of “those people” who dresses in matching outfits with her offspring. Peak parenting! Life goals! 😆 It’s Cuban colours so don’t judge! 🇨🇺
Mum, Dad and bub thriving and enjoying this special time. Will hopefully be back on the dance floor soon so watch this space! ❤️🤍💙
Yes we’re technically still taking a little break as we prepare for the arrival of the AContra Salsa Baby but we couldn’t resist a night out with live music from Carlito’s Way at Half Naked Almost Famous last night. Baby is due any day now so here’s hoping we successfully “Rueda-ed” the little Salsera/Salsero on their way! 💃🕺👶❤️

And that’s a wrap (for the next little while at least)! Thanks everyone for coming to Max and AContra’s last class before our new Salsa Baby makes their debut! We’ll be back at some stage in the near future so keep an eye out on the page for updates! In the meantime, keep dancing Casineros!! xx 💃🕺👶❤️

Here’s our intermediate class from last week. We were playing with some structures in the Rueda like changing the direction and grouping of dancers for an echo effect. Also, we revised fun moves like “Pinwheel”, “sacala/paseala vecina” and “vacilila” variations.

Last week’s *Gr**go Latino* was a blast! We said our apologies to the Cuban dance and music gods then danced the night away to solid gold tunes such as this! 😆
Pre COVID we did these nights at least once a year, but it’s so much fun maybe we should do the next one sooner? 🤔 It’s good for the soul to be silly sometimes! 💜💛

AContra are passionate about Latin dance - in particular anything Cuban and their first dance-love, Rueda de Casino. Trained by Cuban dancers at home and in Cuba, Maxine and Akshar pride themselves on teaching authentic Cuban style in a way that is clear, vibrant, accessible and of course fun in an Aussie context!
They believe everyone CAN dance and strive to create an atmosphere that is welcoming for new dancers whilst still being challenging and interesting for experienced dancers. Their weekly classes and performance teams focus on Cuban Salsa (Casino), Rueda de Casino, lead and follow technique, musicality and timing as well as floor craft to name a few. Examples of Son, Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, Afro-Cuban, Mambo and other Cuban styles are regularly included in their classes to showcase the beauty and variety of Cuban dance and Music.
Maxshar coined the term ‘Ruedetiquette” (the top 5 tips to be a fabulous Rueda dancer) and have spread this and the RuedaLove all over Australia, New Zealand and beyond. However, teaching in their hometown and growing the local population of Casineros is what they love the best! They welcome new beginner, intermediate or advanced dancers to any of their casual classes- no booking or partner required. Please make contact with any enquiries.
