At the clinic, we offer 20 minute free discovery calls (sometimes named 20 minute free appointments) which is the perfect way to meet your practitioner, tell them a little about yourself and find out how we work with cases like yours. It gives you a chance to:
✅ Ask any burning questions you may have
✅ Get a feel for whether naturopathy is right for your individual health concerns
✅ Your practitioner is a good fit for you.

Because of the way these appointments are set up, and the time we have, there are things we can’t cover in this time. This includes:
❌ Interpeting previous testing results
❌Giving clinical recommendations
❌Recommending supplements

If you want to know more about how a naturopath might be able to support you, see below to see how you can book a 20 minute FREE appointment (discovery call):

To book with Bec at Bec The Naturopath (Naturopathy) - email the clinic - [email protected] (there is an approx. 3-4 week wait on some appointment times)

Food has many important roles in our lives. Obviously, it gives us energy but I can also be something that brings us joy, creates social connections and can create memories. One of the reasons I love working with digestive health, is to help people eat and enjoy all the aspects food brings into our lives. That can mean supporting the digestion with gut supportive foods, by addressing digestive concerns or making sure what you eat is properly broken down and absorbed. After all what we eat literally makes up the cells and structures in our bodies! Remember, it also creates and strengthens our bonds with people and places and should be something to be enjoyed, not scared of.

When things are out of balance in our body or in our gut we can see signs in the hair, nails, body and skin.

Some examples include:
🦄 Dry skin can indicate fat digestion issues or mean we need to add more healthy fats.
🦄 Hair loss can indicate thyroid concerns or hormonal imbalance as well as a sign for some nutrient deficiencies.
🦄 White spots on the nails may be an indicator of nutrient deficiencies

I could go on!

There are lots of wonderful treatments which can be of enormous benefit to addressing what is happening with these signs and symptoms. (Your skin therapist can give some fantastic insights here!) I find we often also need to look into the underlying factors and address what’s going on internally.

Protein is a major building block of the body and makes up not only tissue but also enzymes, immune cells, neurotransmitters… the list goes on. Eating enough (good quality) protein is very important for the functioning of our body. Proton is primarily broken in the acidic environment of the stomach. When our stomach acid is low, it becomes harder for protein to be broken down and absorbed well. Because protein makes up such an integral part of the workings of the body, we can see signs in all different body systems - brittle hair and nails, dull skin, lowered immunity, mood changes and muscle weakness. One of the big signs for me that there is an issue with protein digestion - aversion to eating meat or other protein rich foods.

Do you burp after your meals?
For me, this question is a window to how well you might be digesting food in your stomach. For our stomach to do it’s best job digesting our food well, it needs to be an acidic environment with good amounts of digestive enzymes. There are things that affect on this environment in our stomach - stress, medications and bacterial overgrowth to name a few.
To encourage good digestion in your stomach chew your food well, eat in a relaxed state and take your time to smell and look at your food before you tuck in!

Is your gut health and skin health linked? Absolutely! If you think about it - the fundamental job of our digestive tract is to break down and assimilate nutrients which make up the building blocks of our bodies. If that process is not working well, then the basic nutrient our skin needs is not being addressed. Adding in skin concerns like acne - and often our need for certain nutrients increases. And that’s before we look at how our microbiome, inflammation, low stomach acid, good triggers, poor fat digestion and poor bile flow play a part. And this doesn’t just affect skin - it can affect all aspects of health. With the skin, we can just see it clearer - skin acts like a window as to what is happening internally.

Gut health is such a fascinating subject (ok maybe just for me!) but it’s amazing to think that it can impact so many parts of our body - from mood, energy, skin, nutrient absorption, immune system function…. The list goes on! Looking after you gut health shouldn’t be difficult but the information can be overwhelming! That’s where I come in - it doesn’t have to be restrictive - it can be delicious, nourishing, empowering and help to make you feel good! Got a burning gut health question? Pop it below 👇

Hi There! It’s been a hot minute (at least 😆) since I’ve posted and we have a few more friendly faces about so I thought I’d pop on and introduce myself and the clinics I work in.
I’m Bec and I’ve been a naturopath for over 20 years! I love working with gut health and skin health and believe these are intrinsically linked! Currently I work online out of 2 clinics - Well Belly Health where I work as a GAPS practitioner and naturopath and my own clinic which is predominantly naturopathy. I work with some amazing practitioners in both clinics (check out to see the talented people that work there) and in my own clinic I work with Tara and Ailie - pics in post.
So a big welcome and hello! Feel free to say hi to us in the post and let me know your burning questions about gut health and skin health!

One of the best things you can do for your health is to start incorporating non processed whole foods in your diet. These foods are nutrient rich and provide the basic building blocks for your body. You are made up of what you absorb from your diet.

Vitamin C and Quercetin are the 2 nutrients that are my go-to when looking at high histamines and histamine intolerance. Vitamin C can act as an antioxidant, reducing swelling, inflammation and may have an antihistamine action. Quercetin can help to reduce the release of histamine.
Both are available from the diet and are often good in the same foods - citrus fruits and berries are some examples. Surprisingly onions are a good source of quercetin as well. If you are supplementing, querectin may affect how some medications are absorbed so it is always wise to check if these nutrients are right for you!

Did you know high histamine isn’t just a problem for your hay fever and your skin, it can also affect your sleep? Histamine plays a role in regulating the sleep cycle and can promote wakefulness, making it difficult to fall asleep and stay asleep.

26/09/2023

Does your face flush red when you eat certain foods or drink certain beverages (ahem, I’m looking at you wine and coffee!)
This can be a sign of histamine! Often if high histamines are an issue, low histamine diets are recommended which can be helpful in the short term.
Guess what though - it all comes back to the gut!
DAO is one of the enzymes that breaks down histamine in the body and it is produced in (drum roll please!) the intestines.
By supporting gut health, we can improve histamine tolerance and that means not avoiding higher histamine foods forever.
Another way gut and skin are connected 🤩

🌼🤧 Spring is here, and you know what that means – hay fever season! But have you ever wondered what's lurking behind those sneezes and itchy eyes? It's none other than histamine!

Histamine is a natural substance produced by our body when it detects an allergen. It's the culprit behind the redness, swelling, and itching that we experience during allergy flare-ups. But guess what? It doesn't stop at your nose! 🤯

Histamine can affect a number of body systems like our digestion, skin, and even our mood. Symptoms might include loose stools, facial flushing, hives, and heightened anxiety and these symptoms can occur year round - not just in hayfever season.

Histamine is not all bad though - histamine can perform important roles in both digestion and immune system function. Histamine levels become an issue if it is being produced in large quantities, our system is hyper-reacting or we have trouble breaking histamine down.

A big welcome to the team Tara! Tara has joined me this month at the clinic offering naturopathic consultations - to find out more about Tara, pop over to her page .naturopathy. Tara is offering 20% off her consultations until mid October, now is the time to snap up an appointment with her!

Did you know that dry elbows and cracked heels can give me an insight on how well you digest fats?
Issues with fat digestion are surprisingly common and other than dry skin, we can see digestive symptoms such as bloating, nausea and loose stools.
Why is fat digestion so important for skin? All our cells (including skin cells) are made up of a lipid layer and fat soluble nutrients such as vitamin A, vitamin D and omegas are crucial for improving our skin barrier and skin health.

This is an online clinic - which gives you more flexibility with when you make your appointment. Telehealth or phone appointments are available, which means no worrying about the traffic or parking and you can even wear your slippers!
I see clients all over Australia and overseas - if you are interested in how we can help you, book a free 20 minute consult to have a chat. Booking link in bio
