In no other experience, can I imagine where the maternal instinct is tested to the extreme limit. I am in awe and admiration of the tenacious trust of the mother’s deep maternal instinct. It is that instinct, and the father’s trust in it, that as a species, after all this time throughout history, we are still here. Continue to trust in that power of the maternal instinct that got you to this point so far.
Spending a bit of time this afternoon building on my knowledge and deepening my understanding as to why one of my most favourite and versatile amino acids, glycine works so well in so many cases… (of course, not suitable in every case). NMDA receptors (NMDAR), which sit on every neuron cell wall in great numbers, drive the action potential (AP) from neuron to neuron. Hence it controls a wide variety of brain functions and consequently, they are implicated in a multitude of pathologies, either due to excess or lack of activity. Glycine plays the dual role of inhibitor and activator of NMDARs. Understanding the “how”, these articles discuss some evidence and ideas how glycine modulates NMDAR activity. It is thought mechano-sensitivity may govern when glycine plays agonist or the antagonist. Wow.

More importantly, today I’m posting another heartfelt testimonial from a family I’ve working with since May 2022. This family came to me with their 10yr ASD/ADHD boy after years of dealing with misdiagnosis and disastrous trialling of anti psychotic medication. His metldowns and flares were extreme and violent. OCD preoccupied him constantly all day. The stakes were high for this family , so my diagrams and knowledge about NMDARs and glycine didn’t really matter to them. What matter was that I invested in getting results for them.
Books are now closed for new clients for 2023. I've just reached maximum caseload and all appointments are booked out well into Feb 2024. When clients first come to see me, we meet often until the primary carer is feeling confident and grounded in what they are doing and we've managed to achieve a better baseline line of milder symptoms. Once I get a good number of my new cases to this point, I'll be able to open my books again to new clients. I should expect around February 2024, but please like and follow my business page to stay updated.
I’ve returned from my travels to Japan and now getting back into work. Reflecting on my adventure, I have always loved this country, Japan. For those who didn’t know, I used to live and work there in my younger days. I learnt a lot from the traditions of this country, and upon returning I am reflecting on those things again. Japanese people live a long life and aim to maintain an enjoying and meaningful way of living. After a few decades I see that they continue to preserve and maintain that way of living. The things I see that foster a long and meaningful life were these things. Seeking respectful connection with each other, even in the smallest interactions, people feel connected to each other. Seeking strong connection to nature, through their spiritual practice (shinto), designing landscapes for people to enjoy closeness to nature (outdoor hot bathing, walks through tall forests and architecture that enhances the experience of nature rather than opposes it). Cities are designed for continuous natural movement. Lots of stairs everywhere, lots of walking everywhere. Even 80 somethings were traversing the busy labryrinths of the train metro. I didn't see a big business for the health industry. In Melbourne there are gyms on every corner and a multitude of health experts offering their expertise to get you well again. But I didn't see any of this. Everyone rides a bike or walks to get around. Supplements and medicines weren't a big thing. And this is where I come to, food and their relationship with food.
Japanese food, made using traditional methods, consists of pickling and fermenting of vegetables, high in DHA/EPA (omega 3) animal sources, very little gluten and dairy and small amounts of red meat. lots of chicken and fish. When I asked people to describe their version of healthy food, they often talk about a specific vegetable. Different types of yams in the diet, burdock, lotus root, bitter gourd and my absolute favourite, green tea. Green tea is like a fine wine. You can pay a lot of money for a high grade fermented tea or a cheaper loose leaf low grade. Although if you look carefully through the photos, you'll see that there are some strange things you see in Japan - deep fried gluten on a stick. ... omoshiro desu ne.
💜🇯🇵 it’s hot, so it’s hard to smile and look enthusiastic in photos, but we are having an awesome experience.🇯🇵💜 I’m taking a short break in Japan and will be back at work in October. If you’ve sent an email or message, I will see it then.
The sun is shining outside. But busy working on another DNA methylation report for a client. Cluttered work space much? My great joy space. Love solving health problems for my clients and witnessing their journey to get to higher ground. 🥦🙇♀️💫
Another testimonial from another PANS/PANDAS family. More than one sibling in this case and am in awe of their endurance and perseverance while having so many setbacks when we first started 18 months ago.
In my work with helping families dealing with neurodevelopmental and psychiatrically sick children, we work together in the beginning to bring a better stability and functionality to the day. And soon after we get to this point, the primary carer (mother or father or both) begins to decompress as the long slow burn of chronic trauma. Things begin to lighten a little and there is a release of strong emotion followed by a return to a more relaxed, joyful and resilient state. However sometimes the primary carer (usually Mum) is stagnated in the nurturing of her own resilience. So the decompression of releasing the trauma and returning to a more relaxed and joyful state is blocked.
So I am always curious how to help nurture resilience in the primary carer, and bring the joy of motherhood back into their hearts.
Angi came to me for help with PANS/PANDAS a few months back. She struck me as someone who was incredibly resilient and very joyful in her manner, despite the journey she was enduring. I was curious to learn her secret and discovered that she was a trauma informed hypnotherapist and supported new mothers with PTSD and CPTSD. So, I thought it was worthwhile to talk to Angi about hypnotherapy and how it can help mums (and dads) facing a similar journey. She does telehealth sessions. She doesn’t offer hypnotherapy for children but does collaborate with a paediatric hypnotherapist who can offer sessions for PANS/PANDAS recovering children. Her website is https://www.angijoyful.com
New clients can now book via the website. Choose "new client booking" to meet for a 30 min quick initial asssessment of your case. In this time we'll decide what testing is needed and review your current medication and supplement schedule. Following this, we will book longer case review appointment with test results and more time to dig deeper into the case. If you want a sense of the journey is like with me, read my latest blog for another case in 2022. https://www.arisinghealth.com.au/blog/2022-the-year-in-review-part-3
