I love it when my clients let me know how their births went and how happy they are they came to my classes 💜

Photos from Family Birth Centre's post 17/06/2024

Love this birth story! My first was born at tbe Family Birth Centre and I have so much respect for the support they provide.

What shines through here is how mum and her partner felt calm and informed to make decisions and adapt their plan based on what was happening during labour. Love to see it! 💜

Love hearing how the dads feel after attending my classes! Wishing Rose and Cherian all the best for their amazing birth! 💜

Happy International Midwives' Day to all those midwives out there. Thank you for being the support for so many birthing women all over the world.

I chose midwife-led care for my two births at the Family Birth Centre and King Edward Memorial Hospital, and am so grateful to the midwives who assisted me in my pregnancies, births and post-partum.

In my classes, we discuss your options for different models of care, including midwife-led care in different settings and private midwives. DM me to book your class today! 💜

When I took through the Positive Caesarean Birth Program, she was honest about being a bit sceptical! So when she messaged me the week after to say the things she'd learnt were already helping her feel more calm about her upcoming c-section, I was so happy!

Stay tuned for her amazing birth story soon 💜

Swipe for my top 3 product recommendations for during pregnancy ➡⁣

1️⃣ Massage oil for perineal massage:⁣
Perineal massage can reduce the risk of perineal tears and prepare for the sensations during labour. 💜Use the link in my bio to receive a 10% discount on this product from The Birth Store.⁣

I personally found perineal massage helpful in preparing my body for labour. Chat with your midwife/GP to make sure perineal massage is suitable for you (from 35 weeks on).⁣

2️⃣ Fitness ball:⁣
A fitness ball is such a versatile tool to help improve your posture and your baby's positioning during pregnancy, and to move your body gently all the way through your pregnancy (and even in labour!)⁣

I loved using my fitness ball while pregnant to stay active, during my labour to support my upright positioning, and even after my babies were born to help bounce them to sleep! Pick one up from your local Kmart or sports shop.⁣

3️⃣ Colostrum collection kit:⁣
It can be useful to have some colostrum (early breastmilk) stored and ready in case your baby needs it. Chat with your midwife/GP about the benefits - you should only do this from 36 weeks on.⁣

💜Use the link in my bio to receive a 10% discount on this product from The Birth Store.⁣

One question I get asked often is when to attend one of my classes. The good news is: you can start preparing for your amazing birth at any stage!⁣

Ideally, I recommend starting classes between 20 and 30 weeks pregnant. This way you will have plenty of time to practise all the tools and tips you learn with me.⁣

DM me today to discuss when to start your Amazing Birthing journey! 💜⁣

🤍 Baby Swann Dec 2019 🤍

Today is Say Their Name Day, a special day run by to raise awareness of pregnancy, infant and child loss and raise much-needed funds to support bereaved families.

Sometimes I talk about my two live births like they were my only ones. But I think it's really important to honour the babies lost before, during and after birth.

For me, this means remembering my second pregnancy which ended in a missed miscarriage. We never found out the gender of our baby and hadn't named them yet. But I think of them often.

If you have experienced loss, I encourage you to share your babies' name/s below. And know I'm sending you my love. 💜

The placenta is an AMAZING organ and birthing it is something that often is not discussed in the lead up to your birth.

I personally have experienced both a retained placenta, and one that was birthed effortlessly. I was so glad I had my preferences clearly outlined in my birth plan (which were different for each birth, based on my medical needs).

Complete the Positive Birth Program™️ with me and find out all about your options!

There are a number of different approaches to the birth of the placenta.

Some women birth their placenta naturally.

Some have their placental birth medically managed.

Some end up having a mixed approach.

There are pros and cons to each option.

If you have certain other types of intervention, such as induction or augmentation of labour, your options may be more limited, but you still have choices.

To answer a question that we get asked by many women: your placenta belongs to you.

It is always a good idea to get informed before you decide what's right for you.

If you'd like information about the birth of the placenta, we have an information hub on www.sarawickham.com/byp

There, you’ll find links to some free blogs posts, articles and information pages as well as our book on this topic.

What better way to finish off 2023 than with a birth story?

After their first birth experience, Bianca and James were more determined than ever to have an empowered and positive second birth... and they did!

Check out the final paragraph of Bianca's story to see why I got extra emotional 🥹

"Just wanted to update you that we welcomed our little boy Riley on the 25th September at 42+1 weeks! My first baby was also a 42 weeker but definitely didn’t expect that again!

We narrowly avoided an induction, I was actually booked at 42+1, but I went into spontaneous labour myself the night of 42 weeks! My midwife was amazing and as soon as I updated that I was in early labour she cancelled my induction and said “have a beautiful day getting into labour” which is exactly what it was!

👇 Read the rest of Bianca's story in the comments 👇

Congratulations Bianca & James and welcome Baby Riley! 💜
