Look at what you are wearing and add ONE more layer - welcome to winter in Perth WA π₯Ά
As temperatures drop, it's natural to feel unsure about how to dress your baby for the colder weather. Finding the right balance between keeping them warm without making them feel too hot can be tricky, but don't worry, it takes practise and time.
Dress your baby in the same layers youβre wearing, plus an extra layer.

She says it so well π
Some people ask why group B strep screening isn't offered to all pregnant women in the UK.
But an important review published in the British Medical Journal showed that universal antenatal screening for the group B strep bacteria may cause more harm than good.
The reviewers found that universal screening for group B strep "would have led to overtreatment of 138 583 (99.75%) women in labour."
The treatment for having GBS bacteria consists of giving intravenous (by drip) antibiotics during labour.
But very, very few babies would have a problem and the antibiotics have side effects.
Not just for the mums and babies who are exposed to them, but for future mums, babies and families.
Having a drip can mean that movement is limited and in some areas having GBS bacteria and/or the treatment for this can limit your options.
Antibiotics don't only kill unwanted bacteria, like GBS. They also destroy the healthy bacteria of the baby's microbiome.
It's tricky though, because GBS disease can be fatal for a tiny number of babies.
As with so many things, understanding the bigger picture and the wider issues can help you make a decision.
Some babies are more at risk than others, for example.
So this is an area where it's important to get informed, and weigh up the pros and cons in the light of YOUR individual situation.
If youβd like to know more about group B strep, your options, the wider issues and how to weigh up what's right for you, take a look at www.sarawickham.com/gbse
That page has details of my book on this topic β which helps parents, professionals and others to understand the issues and the evidence relating to the screening and prophylactic measures offered in the hope of preventing early-onset group B strep (EOGBS) disease.
It also contains a link to my information hub, where you can read about this study and many others.

Babymoon Affirmation cards - on sale now at www.babymoon.au
The perfect secret santa gift for anyone expecting
Birthing affirmation cards are a positive and empowering tool designed to support you during the childbirth experience. Affirmations are positive statements or phrases that you repeat to yourself and over time this helps you to foster a positive mindset and reduce anxiety or fear. These cards have been created specifically to offer encouragement, confidence, and reassurance as you navigate the journey of labor and delivery.
Here's a brief introduction to your affirmation cards:
Purpose:
The primary purpose is to promote a positive and confident mindset during your birthing journey. Affirmations can help you manage fear and stress, enhance your belief in your body's abilities, and contribute to a more relaxed and positive birthing experience.
Content:
Birthing affirmation cards typically feature positive statements, encouraging words, and empowering phrases. I have created 23 for you based on my experiences from years of supporting natural physiological birth that I hope will resonate with you and address commons concerns and fears from birthing. However, you are a uniquely wonderful birthing woman who has your own individual thoughts and desires so six of the cards are blank and I have included a permanent marker for you to add your own affirmations.
I have also included some cord and ten tiny pegs so you can hang your favourite affirmations in clear sight.
How to Use:
You can use birthing affirmation cards in various ways.
You may choose to read through them daily as a form of meditation or mindfulness practice.
You may choose one for the day and take it with you.
Some women stick them on the back of the toilet door or the fridge so they see them regularly.
you may wish to bring them to the birthing space to serve as a focal point during labour . The cards can be a tangible reminder of strength and positivity, providing comfort in challenging moments.
Benefits:
Using birthing affirmation cards can contribute to a more positive birthing experience by fostering a sense of control, confidence, and relaxation. Positive affirmations have the potential to shift focus away from fear and anxiety, promoting a more empowering mindset.
Conclusion:
Birthing affirmation cards serve as a supportive tool offering words of encouragement and positivity during the transformative journey of childbirth. Whether used during your pregnancy or birth these cards can contribute to a more confident and empowered birthing experience.

Shout out to all the partners and families of private midwives β¨οΈπβ¨οΈ because our being on call for weeks on end definitely affects our loved ones. My gorgeous man has been desperate to get away for a few day's so we booked a staycation in our own town just 30 mins from home in case I was needed at a home birth. Luckily, babies all arrived on mass over the full moon weekend π so we can relax and share the wine π·.
Happy birthing day to me π Here I am aged 28 having just given birth to my beautiful daughter Bethan β€οΈ she was long awaited as I had miscarriaged twice since my first birth and was literally longing for my second baby to come to me. I was on the most amazing natural high of my life in this photo π₯° all the hormones of Queen oxytocin were raging through my veins, and I was falling head over heels in love with my baby. I was fortunate to attend a natural birth workshop yesterday with Rhea Dempsey who reminded me of this moment and the power of physiological birth. This beautiful baby turned 27 years old today. Little did I know that she would grow up to be my soul mate, best friend, and someone I love and admire every day π. AS a result of this birth and the respectful care I received from my midwife, the seed was planted, and my midwifeself began to grow. My passion is still to support physiological birth where possible and offers respectful family centred care to all who seek it β₯οΈ
Such a fan girl moment with Rhea Dempsey at the King Eddie's normal birth study day. I loved hanging out with all these natural birth junkies π₯°
I am loving the sound of this workshop π
