🧡 PETER RYAN WORKSHOP 🧡

Over the weekend, I attended a workshop fundraiser hosted by local artist, Peter Ryan.


Such a fun night with a few of my girlfriends and the BEST pizzas made by Nat, Peter’s wife. 😋🍕🥂

👩‍🎨 THROW BACK 👩‍🎨

Back in the 90’s, during my university days studying to be a teacher, I chose as many art electives as I could. 👩‍🎨

I was lucky enough to have Judith Dunham as a lecturer for several of my visual art units. One of our assignments was to paint ‘en plein air’ (painting outdoors with the subject in full view) at Kings Park, which overlooks Perth city. ☀️

These three oil paintings on board, inspired by the Impressionists, were selected for Edith Cowan University’s art exhibition in 1995. 🤓

An ocean inspired dream catcher, created using; drawing pencil, water soluble wax pastels, fineliner pen, liquid pearls, metal charms and cotton thread.

🐙 OCTOPUS WORKSHOP 🐙

These colourful underwater creatures were created with such thought and care by each young artist. ✍️

They took time to draw the octopus using pencil, pressing lightly and filling the page. Watercolour paints were added, using the wet on wet technique, creating some wonderful effects. The final touches were added using paint pens to create a variety of lines and details to enhance their work.

All such beautiful, eye-catching pieces, well done! 👏🐙🤩

🌊 OCEAN INSPIRED 🌊

Margaret River artist Ian Daniell .art creates large scale, colourful artworks inspired by the ocean. His unique artistic process used to create these artworks is very detailed! 🙌🏻✍️🌊

Check out the simplified process, adapted to create this cute little Leopard Whipray, inspired by Ian’s work. The art materials used include; drawing pencil, marker pen, acrylic paint and paint pens. 🖊️

⭐️ 2023 WRAP UP ⭐️

Coastal Creatives experienced a year of change in 2023. 💫

After moving from our studio space in Currambine at the end of January, the art supplies landed back in the garage at home (where they started and where they still remain today!) 🤪🤣 Finding a new permanent venue has been a challenge for a fuss pot like me. Something in the right location, with the right amenities, at the right price, has proved to be a challenge! 🦄

However, this change has allowed us the opportunity to engage new audiences in other established, beautiful studio spaces. Thank you to and for the wonderful opportunities this year! 🤩🙏

Spending a little less time creating and teaching new workshops, has also allowed more time to visit exhibitions and participate in workshops hosted by other artists. This is something Edie and have LOVED and want to continue to do more of in 2024. ✍️👩‍🎨⭐️

We look forward to continue to be inspired by Australian artists and international artists, with our greatest inspiration being the ocean and all the magical creatures that inhabit it. 🩵🌊💙

Thank you for the continued support, especially to our regular little creatives who rock up each and every school holidays to create their masterpieces. We absolutely love seeing your smiling faces and the amazing artworks you create. 👏🥰

My beautiful bestie will be helping me out over the summer holidays while Edie is away in Bali with her family. 🌴✈️

Lisa and I have been friends since we met on the second day of high school, way back in 1989. 🙈 This beach babe is a mum of two girls and has been working in education for many years. 💙🐚

Here we are a couple of years ago, on our annual family holiday down south. 📸🥂🌊

Australian artist, Alex Platt showcases her body of artwork created over the past 15 years in her solo exhibition, ‘In Retrospect’.

It is always such a pleasure having the opportunity to hear directly from an artist about their work and the inspiration behind each piece. I love the femininity, intricacy and French details in Alex’s work.

🩵 ‘EVERYTHING COLOUR’ EXHIBITION 🩵

Aidan Weichard is one of my very favourite Australian artists and his latest exhibition ‘Everything Colour’ did not disappoint! 🙌🏻

It is almost impossible to pick a favourite piece because they are all absolutely GLORIOUS! ✨ I really enjoyed the boats and pelicans which are something new. Aidan’s style is unique, so full of vibrant colour and interesting details, I LOVE it! 💕

Thank you to the charming Chloe for being so kind and accommodating. Looking forward to the arrival of my new print! 💫
