Well worth preserving, this special and relatively new not-for-profit group (supported by CANNING SHOW, which you may have seen them at last year teaching the art of pasta-making), will be holding their debut 'Morning Tea AGM & Planning Party' on Friday 26 July, 10am-Midday 🎉

With the goal of strengthening and encouraging member participation, if you've ever been interested in being part of a group celebrating preserving, using and cooking fresh, seasonal harvests, this session is your chance to find out more!

Past Community Harvest workshop participants and those curious to get involved are all encouraged to come together for this FREE session, where the menu will include:
🍅 Brainstorming different ways / methods to utilise local ingredients
🍅 Discussing workshop ideas and interests involving preserving harvests, cooking new foods, and making new friends
🍅 Shaping future plans for 2024/2025

Jenny Outram long serving Canning Show secretary was honoured today by the community in recognition of 50 years of service to our organisation. CAHRS is immensely proud of Jen and regards her as a living treasure of the Canning Show. Thanks Jen for being Auntie, fixer, admin wizard and all things under appreciated to us all.
Jen was presented with the WA State 50 Years Voluntary Service Medal by the minister for volunteering Don Punch and celebrated with partner Geoff and CAHRS CEO Dianne Begg.
Many other wonderful people were celebrated including just a few in the happy snaps - thanks to you WA is amazing. 🥇❤️💐

VALE 🖤 Our not-for-profit org CAHRS offers its condolences on the passing of Ray, a Committee of Management member for 19 years, past President for 9 years, the outgoing Vice President, a Life Member, and a volunteer for 20 years.

We thank him for his generous and impactful voluntary contributions to our organisation, including as a leader in the redevelopment of our Cannington Exhibition Centre & Showgrounds and new buildings, and overseeing the positive evolution of in the last 10 years during his term as President and then Vice President.

His stoic determination, openness to embracing new ideas, thoughtful consideration and patience are some of his many attributes that we have valued and benefitted from, and will continue to be appreciated by our Committee of Management, staff, members and wider community.

Our thoughts are with his friends, wife Claire and family, who continue to be long-time, valued volunteers at our organisation.

This please pay your respects not only to the brave humans who made sacrifices for our wellbeing, but also to the animals. They have played a vital role in aiding war and peace efforts, and paid the ultimate price - it's estimated around 8 million animals lost their lives in WWI alone, millions more in WWII, and they still play important roles in defence services to this day.

Camels are one such animal, due to their ability to go long distances, lift heavy loads, go without water for up to 6 days, and the fact they are calmer than horses so less likely to be scared by the sounds of war. Find out more about the ANZACs and the Imperial Camel Corps for just one example of how much we relied on them.

💗 Thanks to fabric donations from Jim & Sandy, our President Maxine has been coordinating their distribution to charities, community groups, NFP projects, and those in need.

These include:
• CWA Thornlie – Linda – Special Purpose Group Community Sewing - Fabric to be used to sew clothing for children doing it tough.
• Uthando Project Inc – Headquarters in Forrestfield. Fabric and lace to be used for a variety of clothing items for dolls making a difference to a child living in Kwa-Zulu Natal, one of South Africa’s most affected HIV and AIDS communities. As pictured, from a recent exhibition in Mt Pleasant.
• RSL Poppy Ladies – Maxine - plain colours made into bags decorated with knitted poppy flowers ahead of ANZAC Day this Thursday
• Fionna & Dianne – Fleecy and ribbing for Pj’s and blankets for babies and children in need / in hospitals.
• Helen – Operation Christmas Child (Samaritan’s Purse) (Shoebox Appeal) – young children across the world benefit with library bags, marble bags, pencil bags, skirts, teddies, and toys.
• Spare Parts Puppet Theatre – Shoulder pads will be used in their craft prior to theatre shows they perform.
• Old Mill Theatre – Shoulder pads to be used for padding where needed on costumes.
• Roleystone Theatre –fabrics for performance costumes.

• CWA of WA Victoria Park – Hilary – for community charity sewing and will pass some fabrics onto Get Scrubbed WA-Charity Sewing, a group founded at the beginning of COVID to supply health care workers with scrub hats which has now re-focused on allied health projects as well.
• Kalamunda Op Shop – vintage paper patterns
• On sourced paper patterns to Pinjarra Op Shop from Kalamunda Op Shop
• Individual - Kalamunda – paper patterns for workshops on flower paper craft
• Social Group Charity Sewers Cockburn
• Vinnies Yangebup – material donation
• Cancer Council Western Australia – (Robyn & Crochet Team + friends) – Breast Cancer cushions.
• Marisa (ex CAHRS Sewing Tutor) – quilting for charity

Also, CAMELIDS will be the theme for the People's Choice Awards this year, so lettuce know if you have any specific ideas relating to/tying in camels, alpacas, llamas, vicuñas, or guanaco 🤔🐪

On the eve of or International Women's Day, we'd like to give HUGE ❤ to the MANY women that make happen!!!

The pics here feature just a couple of the women at Cannington Exhibition Centre & Showgrounds today, whom play a part in bringing the Show to life, including the wonderful Machine Knitters (many of them who volunteer their time each year, and enter the Exhibition), and also some of our staff.

But they are just a very small dePICtion of closer to one hundred ladies who play key roles in powering our not-for-profit event and organisation. Thanks to all the ones not shown here, and the many more to come 💃

Celebrating their 100th year of uniting women and strengthening communities, and always a tasty stop-off with their
The Happy Jam Pot offshoot at , Country Women's Association / CWA of WA has released a centenary edition of their famous 'C.W.A Cookery Book & Household Hints', each copy sold going to support this wonderful not-for-profit group.
