In 1954 Ailsa Cheek was one of the lucky 1200 Perth people to receive an invitation to the Coronation Ball. As Ailsaโs husband was away working on a merchant navy ship, Ailsa and her sister attended the ball. I just recently finished The Hunger by Alma Katsu, a fictionalized retelling of the Donner Party tragedy - a group of American pioneers who got caught in the mountains during the winter of 1846-1847.
Lets just say they got very... hungry ๐
