Meet the Black&White Boba. It thinks in extremes, especially when it makes understandable mistakes. Black&White Boba only thinks about times it messes up while ignoring times that go ok. Is this something that you’ve noticed before in friends and family, or even in yourself?

In this ep of on there is change in the neighbourhood. Coming from immigrant families, we might resist change to maintain harmony, avoid risk, and because we've had fewer opportunities for diverse experiences.

If you've ever had to grow up quicker and sacrifice your childhood for your family, you may need to hear this quote from on . We may be trying to 'fix' our parents or our significant other when they're not ready to face their own mental health challenges.

Like it or not, our dating experience is affected by a lot of outside forces, like the shows we've watched, the people around us, and our upbringing. We may have witnessed unhealthy relationships and patterns, and even been taught to connect with others in unhealthy ways. The first step to changing this is by shining a spotlight on it and calling it out for what it is!

This quote from the 4th Century BCE still resonates with our lives today. Philosophies from Bruce Lee, Jiujitsu, Stoicism, to Parkour even teach a similar thing!

In immigrant families, our parents were more likely to be fearful of risk and would try to place it safe. They'd helicopter over us and try to prevent us from making mistakes. We'd miss out on opportunities to try things for ourselves and might even adopt this fear. To us, it becomes a fear of failure, a need to be perfect and to labour over choices, to procrastinate from making choices.

This quote from the To the Wonder starring Rachel McAdams and articulates this fear of failure well. It suggests that we need to be ready to accept that our choice might not have the best outcome, but that it'd be better than doing nothing.

Like it or not, but stereotyping happens every day. It exists because of how people have learnt about groups of people from their own upbringing and what they see in the media. Mix that in with how our brains like to group things and have shortcuts, and we get stereotyping. Here are some of its effects and what you can do about it.

Often we feel we need to be more productive or that we need to optimise everything. This can be particularly common in immigrant families, where we were taught to work hard and achieve. We may feel like our value as a person is tied to how well we do at work and think that people will judge us negatively if we make a mistake.

This can make us feel anxious and inadequate in everyday situations, like making decisions. Why is it difficult for me to choose a restaurant? Why do I take so long completing familiar work tasks? Why are these thoughts, feelings and behaviours impairing my performance?

The Calm Minds Program can help you tackle these and other issues so you can manage key emotional triggers and not feel like you're being held back in life.

How does anger manifest in your life? Did you witness it in your childhood or do you personally experience it as an adult in your daily life?

Let’s zoom in on the character Danny Cho from the popular show ‘Beef’ and consider how cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) can help him take control of his anger.

Feelings of being an ‘imposter’ or being ‘not as good as I should be’ are more common than you think. This is particularly common among migrant communities, where the pressures to perform and achieve can be ingrained from an early age. Perhaps you feel like your worth is tied up with how well you do at work, or that your colleagues will look down on you for making mistakes.

Pair this with low self-confidence and you may be left feeling anxious and inadequate in everyday workplace scenarios. Why does speaking up in a meeting make my heart race? Why does it seem so easy for everyone else? Why are these thoughts, feelings and behaviours further impairing my work?

The Calm Minds Program can help you tackle these and other issues so you can manage key emotional triggers and not feel like you’re being held back in your career.

If you want to work on specific phobias, anxiety, or anger, the Calm Minds Program could be right for you. It uses a progressive combination of cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), mindfulness and exposure therapy to help you regain control over your thoughts and emotions. Stop saying ‘no’ to life and start living with presence, positivity and self-possession.

The Reasoning Ramen was asked by a workmate to drive them 40 minutes out of the way. Reasoning Ramen said that he couldn't do it because he was genuinely in a rush to drive his sister to soccer practice. He feels guilty for saying "no" and now the guilt is making him thinking that he made the wrong choice.
