Day 2: HerTalk - Where Knowledge Meets Nourishment

The highlight of our week was HerTalk, an evening that transformed a local tapas restaurant into a salon of learning and lively discussion. Over 20 attendees gathered for a night of enlightenment, engagement, and enjoyable cuisine.

Dr. Shin Li How: Navigating Life's Transitions
Dr. How tackled the topics of perimenopause and menopause with expertise and empathy. Her talk left everyone feeling more informed and empowered about the journey ahead. An attendee shared, "I came in with questions and left with a roadmap for the future."

Dr. Shriya Gupta: A Comprehensive Guide to Women's Health Screenings
Dr. Gupta provided a thorough overview of women's health screenings that was both informative and accessible. From cervical screening to breast awareness, she covered crucial topics with clarity and professionalism.

Victoria Lee: Nurturing a Healthy Relationship with Food
Our dietitian, Victoria Lee, offered valuable insights on weight loss strategies and managing food cravings. Her practical advice resonated with the audience, prompting thoughtful discussions about balanced nutrition.

Vivian Chau: Cultivating Mental Wellness
Psychologist Vivian Chau's session on mental fitness was a refreshing take on self-care in our busy world. Her tips for maintaining mental health were both insightful and readily applicable to everyday life.

Melisha Sirisena: Building Strong Foundations
Melisha Sirisena concluded the evening with an engaging talk on the importance of physical activity in preventing conditions like osteoporosis. Her enthusiasm for active living was contagious, inspiring attendees to incorporate more movement into their daily routines.

To cap off the evening, each attendee received a carefully curated goodie bag filled with self-care products and treats. It was a tangible reminder of the importance of ongoing wellness practices.

The success of this week wasn't just in the numbers, but in the connections made, the knowledge shared, and the collective commitment to health. We witnessed the formation of new friendships, the transformation of health concerns into action plans, and a palpable increase in health awareness.

Dr. How, founder of HerGP, reflected on the week's success: "This week exemplified our commitment to comprehensive women's health. It was about creating a supportive community where women feel informed, empowered, and occasionally get to enjoy a nice meal while learning about important health topics."

As we look to the future, we're excited to build on this success for next year's Women's Health Week. Our goal is to make it even more informative, engaging, and community-oriented.

To everyone who participated: thank you for making this week truly special. Your enthusiasm, questions, and engagement brought each event to life.

Here's to women's health – may we continue to prioritize it with knowledge, support, and a positive spirit.

We look forward to seeing you at Women's Health Week 2025. It promises to be another week of learning, growth, and community building.

HerSteps: Walking Towards Wellness

As evening approached, we switched gears for HerSteps, our community walk-run event through the picturesque Beecroft area. Participants of all fitness levels came together, turning a simple exercise into a social event.
One enthusiastic walker commented, "I didn't know whether to bring running shoes or my social calendar – turns out, I needed both!" It was a wonderful way to get active while strengthening community bonds.

This past week, HerGP became a hub of empowerment, education, and community spirit as we celebrated Jean Hailes Women's Health Week 2024. Our series of events brought together women from all walks of life, proving that when it comes to health, we're stronger together.

Day 1: HerYoga - Mindfulness for Moms
(Nurturing Bodies and Fostering Connections)

We kicked off the week with HerYoga, a mid-morning session that catered to new mothers and their babies. This wasn't just a yoga class; it was a celebration of motherhood and self-care. As one participant noted, "I came for the stretches but found a whole community of support."
The session beautifully blended gentle exercises with moments of baby-mother bonding, followed by a relaxed coffee catch-up. It was a perfect reminder that self-care and motherhood can coexist harmoniously, even if perfecting yoga poses takes a back seat to baby giggles.

Pregnancy is an exciting time, but it can also be overwhelming. Here are some tips! Stay active: Regular exercise can help you manage your weight, maintain good mental health, and prepare your body for childbirth. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate activity most days of the week. Speak to your doctor about what kind of exercise is safe and recommended for you.

Eat a balanced diet: It's important to get a variety of nutrients during pregnancy, so make sure you're eating a well-balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Be sure to also stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.

Get enough sleep: Pregnancy can be tiring, so it's important to get enough rest. Try to establish a consistent sleep routine and aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night. If you're having trouble sleeping, try sleeping on your side, using pillows to support your body, and avoiding caffeine and large meals before bedtime

Happy Easter Holidays from the team here @ Her GP Beecroft

We are running a preventative campaign. We are starting it with a free flu vaccination clinic on Tuesday 11 April (tomorrow!) and Tuesday 18 April between 11-3pm.

The school holidays are the perfect opportunity to get on top of your health and the health of your family.

It is important to get vaccinated against influenza every year, as each year the influenza virus changes and different strains can circulate in the population. Last year, the influenza season began earlier compared to recent years, with a peak number of cases in early June. That means that now is the ideal time to get vaccinated.

We know that vaccinated individuals are roughly far less likely to get influenza or severe influenza than unvaccinated people, with young children being at highest risk.

We welcome you to book online by following the link below or call HerGP to get you and your family vaccinated now.

Please note that appointments are for a vaccine only. If you would like to discuss any other health concerns, please book a separate consult with one of our lovely GPs.
