We have made it easy for you to have your say by lodging a submission for the Inquiry into Greyhound Racing NSW submissions close at midnight, Friday 27 September, 2024.
Our resolve to end greyhound racing in NSW became our promise in memory of Jazzie and so many others who shared her tragic fate. We remember and mourn dogs like Carey, Alby, Katana, and 'Just A Moment', who was the first greyhound to be killed on track in 2024 after a collision in the catching pen at Dubbo, one of NSW's many lethal death tracks.
For the greys, we see you, we hear you and we will never stop fighting for you.

There is just over a month until World Kangaroo Day, the theme of this year is "Free to roam their songlines".
World Kangaroo Day was created by Kangaroos Alive in 2020 and is held on 24 October 2024 each year, the mission of this day is to celebrate these incredible native beings as our national icon and increase awareness about their plight in Australia. Kangaroos are devastatingly the victims of the largest wildlife slaughter on the planet. ๐
Despite the kangaroos' importance to the environment and to First Nations people, the federal and state governments, farming lobbies, and kangaroo industry insist that kangaroos are a commercial commodity for their meat and skins and a pest, in โplagueโ proportions, and must be managed by continual shooting. Kangaroos deserve protection, and we will not stop fighting for them until they are protected.
Over the next few weeks, we will be posting ways you can help kangaroos leading up to World Kangaroo Day.
Thank you to our incredible friends at Kangaroos Alive for all of your hard work and advocacy for these incredible animals.
๐ฆ Today is World Rhino Day, a day dedicated to celebrating these incredible beings and acknowledging their vital role in maintaining the health of ecosystems. Rhinos are not only majestic creatures, but also essential for biodiversity, as they help shape and maintain savannas and forests.
Devastatingly, poaching remains to be the biggest threat to rhinos, carried out by groups who illegally traffic rhino horn to sell on the black market. With less than 28,000 rhinos remaining in the wild, these iconic animals are now at the brink of extinction. The situation is even more critical for the Sumatran Rhino, with only between 34-47 individuals left. ๐
Without significant intervention, we may witness the tragic extinction of this species within our lifetime. On this World Rhino Day, it's crucial to not only celebrate these animals but also to raise awareness about their plight. To read more about the plight of rhinos and how you can help, visit The International Rhino Foundation's website here - https://rhinos.org/
Today, on International Day of Peace, we reflect on the suffering endured by so many living beings, human and animals who are unable to escape a life filled with violence and exploitation.
We think of the humans and animals trapped in conflict zones, facing unimaginable struggles for safety and survival. We also think of the countless animals who are exploited every day in industries that profit from their suffering.
Whether itโs the animals used for their flesh, milk, and eggs, forced into painful and unnatural conditions, or those used for entertainment, confined and mistreated in rodeos, circuses, zoos, or aquariums and the animal racing industries, or those abused for animal experimentation or trapped in the tourism industry, exploited for rides and showsโthese beings live their lives in fear and without freedom.
We will never stop fighting for a peaceful world where all beings, human and animal, have the right to live free from harm, exploitation, and violence.
Despite the serious and festering allegations against GRNSW, GAP NSW, the Wyee facility, Hanrobs and diminished confidence in GWIC, The NSW Minister for Gaming and Racing, David Harris MP considers it more important to listen to NSW greyhound racing clubs, and to provide stability for GRNSW and the industry while Acting Commissioner, Lea Drake conducts the current 'puppet' Inquiry.

The current Animal Protection Act 2018 and Animal Protection Regulations 2022 fall short of providing adequate welfare and protection for all NT animals.
By participating in this important review, we can advocate for the rights and welfare of all sentient beings and help shape the future of animal protection in the Territory.
Our own investigations and 'Breaking the camel's back' expose and Defend the Wild's exposรฉ into the intensive and barbaric crocodile farming, clearly demonstrate that an urgent reform and overhaul of animal welfare laws is needed now.
We have made it easy for you to have your say and send a powerful submission. For a greater impact, you can personalise your submission. Our collective voices can make significant changes for all animals.

Animal Liberation has been disappointed to witness the lack of compassion and response coming from Ricki-Lee after becoming aware of our Australian-first exposรฉ, "Breaking the camel's back."
After creating a reel of video footage of camels screaming as a worker stands on the camel's hobbled legs, (while laughing as recording them) Ricki-Lee has taken down this distressing video from Instagram, but has not taken down her photos of her riding a camel at UCT, nor responded to Animal Liberation's comments on her posts.
The distressing video unfortunately can still be seen on TikTok.
Laughing at an animal who was taken from the wild and forced into a life of servitude is not something we would consider funny, Ricki-Lee.

Always question whether your entertainment is the cause of someone else's suffering.
It appears Melbourne Storm Fullback, Ryan Papenhuyzen isn't earning sufficient money playing football, or perhaps enough isn't ever enough for some.
Ryan appears confused about his role with greyhound racing. On the one hand he is an Ambassador for GAP NSW (the industry's rescue and rehoming arm), and on the other, he is involved with racing greyhounds for commercial profits and human entertainment. How can any GAP NSW Ambassador support the very industry which is over-breeding, maiming, discarding and killing greyhounds, Ryan and all the GAP NSW Ambassadors need to, in our opinion, take a good hard look at themselves in a mirror.
Sport plays an important role in the lives of many, including young people, and we believe sports people have an important leadership role. Sending a message that forcing greyhounds to run for gambling profits is OK, is not the message Ryan or any sports person should be sending to Australia's youth.
Pick a team Ryan, whose side are you on?

Greyhounds Australasia has FINALLY announced the phase-out of Surgical Artificial Insemination (SAI) for greyhounds after
years of advocacy by animal advocates and activists, fighting for SAI to be banned. SAI requires an incision into the abdomen through all muscle layers to allow semen to be injected directly into the uterine horns of a female dog and the female dog must then carry her pups to full term, while healing from this invasive and painful procedure.
While an SAI phase-out is a positive step, the greyhound industry is dragging its feet, continuing to profit from the suffering of greyhounds and allowing this practice to continue until 2026. This barbaric practice is already banned in many countries, including the UK, Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands. In late 2022, the Australian Veterinary Association issued its policy against SAI which said โ โAll states and territories in Australia should adopt the prohibition of surgical AI in dogs, in their respective Animal Welfare Acts. Veterinarians should phase-out the use of surgical AI by 1 January 2024.โ .
The industry must now transition to Transcervical Insemination (TCI), and we hope that greyhound breeding will be reduced from the current rates of around six times more dogs than can be rehomed. If the Industry continues to breed without a breeding cap, the wastage will continue with greyhounds dying, being killed and being discarded.
We must maintain our pressure on the NSW government and the industry. For NSW residents, you can sign Animal Liberation's two parliamentary e-petitions below, demanding an immediate end to commercial greyhound racing in NSW.

๐ณ๏ธ Make your vote count tomorrow for animals exploited by animal racing industries.
Did you know that proposals for new or refurbished greyhound tracks will include some level of council input? This can depend on the financial value of the proposal; in many instances decisions are made by a local planning panel, in other instances, decisions to approve or refuse a development are made by council planning staff or councillors.
It's vital that as compassionate animal advocates, we ensure those running for a seat in the local council elections hear our voices and opposition to all animal exploitative activities.
We've put together a powerful guide for you to ask those running for council, important questions to get animals on the agenda and ensure your vote counts. You can read our powerful guide here: https://www.al.org.au/nsw-council-elections-2024
Thank you to everyone who joined us in bearing witness to the approximately 100,000 chickens slaughtered daily at Cordina Chicken Slaughterhouse. ๐
To every animal whose life is taken needlessly and violently, we see you, we will tell your stories and we will continue to fight for a world where no one has to endure this fate.
Animal Liberation's successful, extensive and ongoing 'Freedom of Information' applications under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA), confirms that the 'unnamed' attending vet at the 2023 NYD Moruya rodeo, 1) did not witness the incident where a steer became so distressed in the chute, it's thrashing about and rambing of its head resulted in one of its horns being caught between the chute's metal bars, tearing one horn almost to the steer's head and 2), was not notified of the steer's serious injury by the Moruya rodeo operators.
While the presence of a vet could/should have either prevented this injury, it failed to do so. Similarly, the presence of a vet could/should have ensured immediate vet care for the injured steer to relieve its pain and distress, it failed to do so.
The attendance of a vet in either a mandatory or voluntary capacity, 'may' give the appearance of better animal welfare, and adherence to the intent of the law and public expectations, a vet presence will not;
- Change the culture or practices at rodeo events which seek to provoke and torment animals to 'perform' causing physical and psychological harm.
- Guarantee the attending vet is adequately monitoring all rodeo activities and practices.
- Ensure any injured animal receives required vet care including emergency care where an injury has been sustained.
- Require the rodeo operator or their contractors to see the vet's intervention and treatment care for an injured animal.
- Prevent multiple animals from experiencing physical and psychological harm during the course of any rodeo event.
- Avoid any potential conflicts of interest by a vet hired and paid by a rodeo operator to monitor the rodeo event.
Animal Liberation strongly maintains that the only way to prevent animal suffering and cruelty at these events, and protect the welfare and wellbeing of animals used in rodeo, bull riding, rooftop express and rodeo school events, is to ban rodeos.
You can view some of Animal Liberation's GIPA documents here: https://www.al.org.au/moruya-rodeo-licence
๐ณ๏ธ With NSW council elections scheduled for Saturday 14 September, this is an important reminder about the role councils play in planning matters and, the welfare and wellbeing of animals ๐พ. It's also a reminder of the critical "public interest" role we can all play as the collective grassroots community voice.
The state's planning system shapes development proposals, but local councils also play a crucial role. Through planning staff ๐ท, elected councillors ๐๏ธ, and tools like the Local Environment Plan ๐, policies and any bias in place with decision makers.
Your voice is powerful ๐ฌ. Together, we can get animals on the agenda for the NSW council elections and keep them there when new councillors are elected.

The highly pathogenic avian influenza (bird flu) has been a growing issue in intensive animal farming for years. This year, a strain spread to dairy cows in several US states. In Australia, the threat to our wildlife is escalatingโsome NSW vets are already refusing to treat injured or sick birds due to fears of bird flu. ๐
Minister Penny Sharpe warns that H5N1 could soon reach penguin colonies in Manly. In Peru, 40% of pelicans have died, and thousands of sea lions in North America have already perished. Australia is the last continent to remain untouched by this deadly strain, but experts say it's a matter of when, not if.
The factory farming of sentient beings in inhumane conditions will always increase the risk of disease outbreaks. Warming temperatures and bird migration are also heightening the risk of a devastating outbreak, threatening to wipe out wild bird populations.
We are all connected. By choosing to no longer support industries that confine and exploit animals in agricultural facilities, we can take a stand against this cycle of cruelty and disease.
Today is Threatened Species Day, a stark reminder of the perilous state of Australia's unique wildlife. On this day in 1936, we lost the last remaining Tasmanian tiger on Earth. Now, over 2,000 Australian plants and animals are at risk of extinction, with over 1,000 species listed as threatened in NSW alone. ๐
Our native animals are facing an extinction crisis, driven by relentless habitat destruction, urban sprawl, animal agriculture, logging, climate change, hunting and diseases brought about by stress, and weak planning and environmental protections. Every year, millions of hectares of crucial wildlife habitat are bulldozed for agriculture and housing developments.
Even more shocking, NSW continues to issue "licence to harm" permits that allow the killing of protected species deemed "pests". Meanwhile, kangaroos face brutal commercial harvesting, with millions shot each year in what remains the largest land-based slaughter of wildlife in the world.
In the last two years alone, 163 species have been added to the Threatened Species List. Iconic animals like the koala and greater glider were recently uplisted from 'Vulnerable' to 'Endangered', highlighting how our weak laws and lack of funding are impacting wildlife and the wild places they call home.
But hope isn't lost โ it's in our hands. By treasuring our wildlife and pushing for stronger protections, we can paint a brighter future together. This Threatened Species Day, let's renew our commitment to protecting our environment and every creature who calls it home. From the iconic to the overlooked, each species plays a vital role. Together, we can turn the tide of extinction and make every day a day to celebrate, protect, and cherish Australia's extraordinary wildlife.
