It's for the kids!
Beat The Burn is setting up a Basecamp at the NRMA Jindabyne Holiday Park for a week of running, road cycling, mountain bike riding, hiking and paddling. We're asking Fire & Rescue NSW and ACT Firefighters to put down their hoses, load up their swag, camper, caravan or book a cabin and settle in for a week of gears, beers and tears as we make our way up and down the highest mountains in Australia.
The best part? It's all for the kids at FRNSW 002 Station The Burns Unit at The Children's Hospital at Westmead. So dial in those gears, pack those runners, put your kayak on the roof and start fundraising to ensure the kids in the Burns Unit have the best chance to overcome their burn injuries.a week in March, Firies will be mountain biking hiking paddling around Thredbo and lake Jindabyne
The Burn’s Unit at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead is the Pediatric arm of the NSW Severe Burns Service and is the referral centre for all major pediatric burns in NSW. The Burns Unit is 002 Station of Fire & Rescue NSW and is close to the heart of all FRNSW Firefighters.

A new addition to our appliances this tool can assist with extracting patients who are injured and unable to walk and is especially useful on stairs or in tight spaces. It can often be used effectively to help our NSW Ambulance colleagues.
No firefighters were hurt undertaking this drill 😀

Lunchtime today Fire and Rescue NSW Station 030 Lidcombe got called to Assist Public just off Parramatta road in an industrial area. A truck had reversed into a tree somehow shearing off a locking plate and getting a tree branch caught between his truck and the rear hydraulic loading/lifting ramp.

Today Lidcombe station visited Flemington Rail Yards to do a PIP (Pre Incident Plan) to ensure that when required we are familiar with the location of the firefighting services and hazards like high voltage powerlines and chemical storage areas.
Whilst there, we were lucky enough to view a vintage 1926 Sydney Electric Train. It has historical significance as one of its carriages was the first carriage to travel over the Harbour Bridge.
Make sure you keen an eye out for these carriages on Sunday 26th Feb as they travel from Central to Loftus Tram museum as part of the Sydney vintage tramway festival.

This winter 13 people have died in house fires in NSW. 13 lives that could have been saved if they had a working smoke alarm to warn them of the danger developing in their homes. That is a devastating statistic and a tragic loss.
We can’t smell smoke in our sleep, so smoke alarms give the best chance to survive in a house fire and avoid anymore tragic house fires. It only takes a few minutes to check your smoke alarm and a few dollars to replace any batteries. Don’t let skipping doing this rob you of something far more precious.
SO PLEASE CHECK YOUR SMOKE ALARMS and ALSO CHECK IN YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
If you don't have a smoke alarm you can purchase them at your local hardware and if you have any questions or need help either checking or installing a smoke alarm please call your local fire and rescue nsw station and ask for a FREE home fire safety visit.
At 5:50am this morning Lidcombe Fire station received numerous calls notifying them of a fire in a shop in John Street, Lidcombe. We drove out of the station and located the fire with flames coming out of the roller door of a shop front of a 2 storey building approx 400m from the station.
The crew got to work extinguishing the fire with the hose reel initially and then a line of 38mm. Access was gained to the kebab shop using the power saw and a local provided access at the rear to ensure there was nobody in the 2nd storey apartment.
Firefighters remained at the scene till approx 9:45am to provide ongoing fire protection as the electrical pit, (the likely cause of the fire) directly in front of the shop continued to reignite. NSW Police Force were in attendance to block off the street, the electricity provider attended the scene and the power was isolated in order the assess the fault.
This is a reminder to always call 000 if you see a fire or in an emergency. Fire and Rescue NSW
At 18:38 this evening Fire Rescue NSW station 30 Lidcombe were called to a two car head on collision St John's Road Auburn. Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters have forced open a bedroom door and rescued three teenagers, trapped in an apartment fire at Lidcombe in Sydney overnight.
Six fire trucks rushed to the John Street address when the fire broke out just after 1am today.
One crew extinguished the small blaze in the downstairs business as two others entered the smoke-filled residence upstairs.
Wearing breathing apparatus and using torches to find their way, the firefighters went from room to room, looking for occupants.
When Firefighter, Cem Dincer (p**n. 'Gem') encountered a locked bedroom, he forced the door and found two teenage girls and a boy, huddled by a bed.
Firefighter Dincer alerted other firefighters, as he guided the residents to a rescue ladder placed against an open window.
The teens were then assessed and treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics.
The rescue was captured by the firefighter's helmet camera.
The teens, who had followed fire safety advice they received from a FRNSW visit to their school, were not seriously hurt.
Fire crews cleared the building, extracted the smoke and identified an e-bike, charging in a downstairs kitchen, as the source of the fire.
