Ever wondered if you're getting the right amount when you buy products from your favourite and stores?
Between 13-17 May, National Measurement Institute Australia Inspectors will be undertaking a combination of announced audits and trial purchases. They will visit around 400 traders across Australia to ensure consumers are only paying for the product they are purchasing, and that they are not inadvertently being charged for the container or packaging.

One of our recent , Julia, completed her Bachelor of Science at The University of Melbourne before starting the Graduate program at the National Measurement Institute Australia. She was ‘blown away’ by the amount, variety, and scope of work that the NMI does. Access to top-tier experts from a range of fields, ‘gave me many unique experiences, Julia said.

Multicultural communities across Australia rely on international wholesalers and retailers to supply them with a taste of home and provide all Australians with a wide range of culinary delicacies. However, not all of these delicacies have been through the same level of quality assurance that products produced or packed in Australia may have been. For this reason, National Measurement Institute Australia Trade Measurement inspectors will be conducting audits nationally from 18-22 March to make sure everyone is getting the culinary experience they are after.
The audit campaign will focus on retailers, wholesalers and importers who produce, import, and distribute seasonal produce, specialty food and grocery items sold in international food stores and grocers. Approximately 400 site visits will take place across Australia to make sure customers of all products imported and distributed in Australia are getting what they pay for.

With a PhD in Biotechnology from RMIT University Dr Thish de Silva, now an Assistant Director of National Measurement Institute Australia’s International Relations section, sees her skills as a scientist as an advantage to supporting the future direction of the organisation. Although from time to time she catches herself wanting to go deeper into the NMI does.
When it comes to providing to women, Thish wants to make sure NMI continues challenging itself when it comes to and . She says, “I think we now understand the importance of having women who advocate for other women,” continuing to say, “the diversity in an organisation brings out the best solutions to any problems or issues we face.”
She believes some science organisations still have a long way to go, Thish advocates for more support and encouragement for women in the workplace.

Congratulations to NMI’s Ilya Budovsky who has recently received the IEC 1906 Award from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and Standards Australia for his expertise and contributions to the development of documentary standards for electromagnetic compatibility.
Ilya leads NMI’s work on electrical measurements, and helps the electricity sector adapt to renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies.
He received the award in recognition for his highly-respected and outstanding technical expertise as well as his consensus-orientated way of working.
