Part of checking consent is knowing when someone can’t consent.
A person can only consent if they can freely choose to say yes.
So, there are some situations where people can’t consent (even if they say yes), including if they’re:
• heavily affected by drugs or alcohol
• unconscious or asleep
• manipulated or threatened into consenting.
That’s how you do it. Check consent, every time.

Congratulations to all the students who represented Macquarie University at this year's Indigenous Nationals.
This week-long event goes beyond the games, providing a space for cultural connection, and an opportunity to showcase the vibrant sporting heritage of Indigenous Australia.
This Macquarie team was led by captains Lara Strachan and Kam Walker.
Congratulations to Izabella Lloyd-White on winning the Rio Tinto IT Award at this year's GradConnection Top 100 Future Leaders Awards.
Izabella is currently studying a combined Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Information Technology. Outside of the classroom, she is actively involved in five student societies and, before graduating, she has already completed internships with Isle Utilities, Telstra Purple Academy, and SafetyCulture's A{i} Accelerator Program.
The GradConnection Top 100 Future Leaders Award recognises Australia's most promising university graduates. It's a comprehensive program that connects students with top employers and universities, providing a valuable opportunity to network, build connections, and gain real-world experience through the application process itself.

👋Meet recent MQ graduate, Adam Garth.
Adam is a recent Macquarie Business School graduate who landed his dream job before graduating. But his story starts with him not quite knowing what he wanted to do.
Adam says the exposure to economics in the first year of his Bachelor of Commerce, and the way his teachers brought the subject to life, compelled him to change his major to Economics. During his final year, Adam’s research was read by industry leaders and his Capstone project gave him the opportunity to meet the person who eventually gave him his first graduate role.

Consent isn’t just about asking the question, it’s about listening to and respecting the answer. “No,” doesn’t mean “convince me.”
So, make them feel comfortable and pressure free.
That’s how you do it. Check consent, every time.
