Today is Mabo Day, commemorating the historic 1992 Mabo decision, which recognised native title rights and overturned the Colonial concept ‘terra nullius'.
Last week, First People’s Assembly of Victoria representative and Traditional Owner Gary Murray joined us, delivering a powerful presentation about the importance of Treaty, describing it as our ‘Unfinished Colonial business.’
He explained that prior to 1788, Country was ‘right-side up’, with language, law, cultural relationships, trade, traditional arts.
“Once we were invaded, it gets turned upside down. With Treaty, we want to make it right side-up again.”
