The title of ‘Emeritus Mayor’ is the highest honour awarded by our industry’s peak representative body, Local Government NSW. Sutherland Shire Mayor - Cr Carmelo Pesce received the title last week in recognition of his outstanding service to the community over the three terms he has served as Mayor. Surrounded by fellow Councillors, colleagues, family and friends, Mayor Pesce described his passion for serving the community he loves in accepting the award for exemplary service 🎖️
Councillor Pesce paid tribute to all those who had supported him throughout his time serving on Council. “The Sutherland Shire is the place where I was born, its where I’ve lived my whole life and its where I chose to start a business and raise a family. But more than that, it’s a community that I am passionate about serving,” Mayor Pesce said.
“The role of Mayor is a challenging one, and it’s certainly not something you take on for rewards or accolades, but to have received this form of recognition for my career in local government is a truly special and incredibly humbling experience."

🐾 Pet of the Week: Meet Diesel! 🐾
Don’t let Diesel’s impressive size fool you—he’s still a playful pup with a heart full of energy and enthusiasm! This lively boy is sure to bring endless joy and love into his new home.
Diesel is a true playtime enthusiast. Whether it's a chew bone, a squeaky ball, or a plush toy, he's ready for fun with anything he can get his paws on. His spirited nature turns even the simplest activities into exciting adventures.
One of Diesel's absolute favourite pastimes is spinning with his big ball on a rope. The moment he steps into the yard, he heads straight for his beloved toy, and the fun begins!
This energetic youngster is always up for a walk—be it a leisurely stroll around the neighbourhood or an adventurous hike. Diesel is eager to explore the world with you and enjoy every new experience.
Smart and quick to learn, Diesel already knows how to sit, give paw, lay down, and wait patiently for his lead. However, he’s still working on not jumping up on people and needs a bit of extra training to feel more comfortable around loud noises and large vehicles.
Diesel is ready to find his forever home and share his boundless joy with a loving family. Could you be the one to give him the adventure-filled life he’s dreaming of? 🌟

👏🏽 The Sutherland Shire sure punches above its weight when it comes to producing incredible athletic talent! Council recognised some outstanding local athletes this week, presenting Mayoral Minutes to congratulate the Under 14 and Under 15 Sutherland Shire Netball Association recently crowned state champions, with both teams going back-to-back defending the state titles they won last year. Also receiving a Mayoral Minute was track and field star Tammin Lampret who won the Under 18 100m Hurdles and the 4x100m Women’s Relay representing Australia in the recent Oceania Athletics Championships held in Fiji. Congratulations to all the girls on their incredible achievements!
🏅The title of ‘Emeritus Mayor’ is the highest honour awarded by our industry’s peak representative body, Local Government NSW. 🏗️ Our local surf life saving clubs perform an invaluable role in our community, providing not only a great sporting and social outlet for club members, but also keeping millions of people safe on our beaches. This is why Councillors voted in support of a plan to step in and take over the stalled redevelopment of North Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club, to ensure work on this valuable community asset is completed in a timely and fiscally responsible manner. It’s a significant project to take on, but Council is committed to ensuring the redevelopment doesn’t unnecessarily impact the delivery of other projects promised to our community.

Last week was a momentous occasion as we honoured the incredible Graham Arnold by renaming Canberra Road Oval in his name! This is the very place where his love for football first took flight, and now it will forever bear the name of one of our greatest football icons.
Graham once said, “The game is not just about winning; it’s about creating moments that people will remember.” This renaming is a tribute to the unforgettable moments he’s created and his enduring impact on the sport.
Thanks again to Arnie and the extended Arnold family for joining us at the celebration, and to everyone at Gwawley Bay Football Club, Sutherland Shire Football Association, and Football Australia for helping bring this fitting tribute to life for a local sporting legend.

Say hello to Jerrimah, our sweet and resilient feline who has been with us since November 2022. As one of our longest residents, Jerrimah is ready to find her forever home, and we’re dedicated to helping her make that leap!
When Jerrimah first arrived, she was quite stressed and began overgrooming herself. Thanks to some dedicated care and affection, she’s now more relaxed and her overgrooming has stopped. She’s still a bit reserved around people but is making wonderful progress each day.
Jerrimah may be shy, but she shows her joy in a special way. When you approach her enclosure, her tail stands tall, and she starts chattering excitedly. She even head-butts her surroundings to let you know how happy she is to see you!
This charming girl has a soft spot for treats, especially creamy ones, churus, and her absolute favorite, Applaws treats. Her excitement when she sees these goodies is simply heartwarming.
Jerrimah would thrive in a patient, loving home that can accommodate her indoor lifestyle and is ready to share some tasty treats. If you’re looking for a special companion, Jerrimah could be the one for you!
