π Satya, one of the five Yamas! "He who is firm in truthfulness reaches God." - Sri Ramakrishna
π€ "Today I skipped practice (gym, studies, brushing teeth π), but I don't justify myself by the fact that I had a lot to do. Rather, I was unable to organize my time in such a way as to have time to work out. And last time I was just too lazy."- such a conversation with myself is closer to Satya.
π Satya is honesty. A person must be truthful in thought, word and deed. But this truth should not hurt others: words of bitter truth should not be pronounced. Lets be genuine and outright :) ..and do Yoga! π€
Lets talk on one of the most questionable topic - Brahmacarya
In short, based on my own understanding and experience, Brahmacarya is oneβs ascetic behavior to purify and enhance their creativity. While Brahma means one's own soul, it is also the Vedic God of creation. That in conjunction can be understood as a creative ability of oneβs soul. And carya stands for engaging, conduct, follow..
Brahmacharya is when a person refuses to indulge in any body or mind sensations in order to preserve and contribute all available psychophysiological resources to their sacred relationship with Brahma. The fruit of Brahmacarya is the ability to see the divine in everyone and everything.
In application, for example in consuming food, you eat to create your physical body as a material basis for consciousness. So, in terms of Brahmacarya, the food must be simple to be processed easily and its amount should be just enough to maintain the body structures. Simultaneously, sexual activity is considered to be appropriate when performed to create (give birth) or heat up oneβs passion to create. Not giving up pleasure, but restraint, which, according to the yogic concept, is of great importance for maintaining and increasing the life force (prana) in the body-mind. "With a firm affirmation in brahmacharya, virya (energy) is achieved," says the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
When we indulge with something or someone, that may give us a feeling of joy or liberation.. temporary feeling. As we depend on the object or process and get attached to it. What actually liberates us is when we carefully resonate with another soul or essence and experience the unity, and the synergy being born from that unity gives us the power to create new reality.
An example of practice of Brahmacarya that you could do right now in real life:
In any activity that you engage in, think about what you receive in material form or form of emotions, information, sensations.. and what have you given away or created! And what is the ratio? βοΈ
