❌ If it's flooded, FORGET IT!
By taking the risk and driving through a flooded road, you are also risking the lives of our volunteers.
If you come up to a flooded road, turn around and find another way.
🚨 This afternoon SES were called to Audley Weir following reports a car had become stuck on the flooded Weir.
🚒 First arriving services were able to confirm that the occupant had been able to remove themselves from the vehicle and wade to safety.
🚧 Local SES are calling for drivers to adhere to road closed signs and use alternative routes via Waterfall or Otford when the Weir is closed.
🖊️ While it may seem that the water levels are shallow this is deceptive. Changes in car design to improve fuel efficiency have made modern cars extremely buoyant, with smaller cars able to start floating in as little as 15cm of water (the height of an average pen).

⚠️ FLOOD WATCH ⚠️
The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) to STAY INFORMED about predicted possible minor flooding on the Woronora River:
🚨 Woronora River and Surrounds
________________________________________
ℹ️ What are we expecting?
A coastal trough is forecast to deepen and potentially develop into a low pressure system between Friday and Saturday. The trough is forecast to move towards the south coast by late Saturday bringing widespread rainfall.
This rainfall has the potential to cause minor flooding in the Sydney region from early Saturday.
________________________________________
❓What do you need to do?
• If you have a Home and/or Business Emergency Plan, review it now. Otherwise, have a conversation and plan for what you will do and take with you if you need to evacuate.
• Consider the consequences of road and bridge closures and water over roads and make alternate arrangements for work, children, and travel.
• Obey all signs about road closures and instructions from emergency services.
• Never drive, walk, ride through, play or swim in flood water - it is dangerous, toxic, and may void your car insurance. If it's flooded, forget it. Fines may apply.
• Avoid storm drains and pipes, ditches, ravines, creeks, and rivers.
• People in areas likely to be impacted by flooding should raise their assets, including waste and chemical containers above expected flood heights.
• Share this information with family, friends, and neighbours and help others prepare where possible.

⛈️ The storm that passed through on Wednesday was short, but packed a punch!
☎️ 33 requests for assistance have been received so far within the Sutherland Shire. Mostly relating to trees down, roof damage and flash flooding of local roadways in the usual hotspot areas (e.g. Alfords Pt Rd northbound, tram tracks crossing southbound).
⛑️ We had over 40 SES Volunteers from across the 4 Sutherland Shire units in the field who were supported by 5 members in the Incident Management Team yesterday evening.
