Kaylene and Geraldine’s story is one of connection, laughter, and a bond that’s stood the test of time. For years, they’ve shared unbreakable friendship, adventures, and endless support. 🧡 From their first meeting in the late 60s at the Lorna Hodgkinson Sunshine Home to belting out ABBA songs in their beloved "ABBA van" 🚐, their bond has only grown stronger with each passing year.

Congrats, Gary! You’re a natural. Keep growing! 🌿👩🌾🌻

Have you ever faced a challenge so overwhelming it changed your entire life in an instant?
For Christie Yu, an 18-year-old pharmacy student with big dreams, that moment came when she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia. But through the support of her NDIS coordinator, Michael He, Christie found the strength to adjust to her new reality. Over the past two years, Michael’s expertise and culturally sensitive approach, including communicating with her mum in Cantonese, have been a lifeline for Christie and her family. This is more than just a story of support—it's a journey of resilience, compassion, and dedicated care.

At the age of 36, Liz's life took an unexpected turn. Diagnosed with an acquired brain injury, she was admitted to aged care, a place meant for the elderly, not for someone in the prime of their life. For the next 25 years, Liz's existence became one of isolation. She was surrounded by residents with severe dementia, witnessing their decline while she yearned for the simple pleasures of life, like feeling the warmth of the sun on her face. Confined indoors, Liz was all but forgotten by the community.
Since Liz met Judy, Unisson Disability's dedicated Support Coordinator, some hope was set for Liz’s future. For two and a half years, Judy has worked tirelessly with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) to transition Liz back into the community. Her goal: to move Liz into Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) and give her the chance to rebuild her life.
Judy's impact on Liz's life has been nothing short of transformative. Their relationship has blossomed into a genuine friendship, rooted in care and compassion. For Judy, "It Starts With Heart" is not just a motto but a guiding principle. This journey reached a joyous milestone as Judy accompanied Liz to her new home.
The move was a significant step towards happiness and independence for Liz. She was eager to reclaim her life and enjoy the everyday moments many take for granted.
This story is a testament to the huge difference that dedicated support and a caring heart can make. Judy's unwavering commitment to Liz’s well-being has opened a new chapter in Liz’s life, filled with hope and possibility.

🌞Happy FriYAY, everyone! 🌱 Spring is here, and the team has been working closely with clients to create something special! They’ve been hard at work, transforming the garden into a veggie paradise, prepping fresh soil and pulling out those pesky weeds 🌿.
While Eli was busy in the garden, Mohamad whipped up a BBQ feast for everyone 🍔🌭. With the help of Zakaria and Anita, it was a day full of sunshine, good food, and even better company! The backyard is set to be full of fresh veggies for dinner very soon! 🥕🍅
We love seeing our clients get involved and enjoy the fruits (or veggies 😉) of their labour! 💪
At Unisson Disability, we believe that asking "R U OK?" is more than just a conversation starter.
This week, let’s remind ourselves of the incredible impact we can have by reaching out and listening with compassion. 💛
Supporting mental health starts with empathy. Before discussing sensitive topics, seek consent, choose a private and comfortable setting, and practice active listening. Ask open-ended questions, avoid judgment, and respect boundaries. It’s okay to admit your limits and follow up later to show continued care. Encourage professional help if needed. Patience and kindness are key—these conversations can be emotional.
Together, we can reduce stigma and create a supportive, judgment-free space for open dialogue.
Let’s all get involved and be part of the conversation!

The most important thing you need to know about us... is Unisson. It means what you think it means. No hidden or cryptic messaging. It is simple. At Unisson, we aim to work with you. Alongside you. In collaboration. In relationship. In Unisson.
There is one part that probably needs an explanation - the double SS. This is to retain a connection to our history and our previous name SunShine.
When we talk about collaboration and partnership it means that your goals are our goals, we really mean that. Whatever you want out of life, and however you want to go about getting there, we are along for the ride with you, and the ride is what we do best!
You see, to us, the ride is the journey, the relationship we build with you. We believe relationships don't just make the world go round, they make it a better place for all of us to live.
