Saturday the mighty roos headed up to Inverell in the wet. 🦘
The women started extremely well in the windy wet conditions kicking the first goal. As the game went on with a few injuries in the 2nd half the Saints were able to capitalise and get the win. - Big Dog
Player’s player - Katherine Greenland
Captains award - Shannon Campbell
Coaches award - Sarah Byrne
Men’s game played in slippery conditions and the Rooboys were undermanned. Saints lent 3 players to make sure the game went on. Roos defence was under a lot of pressure all day but stood proud. Making the day happen in the wet conditions those lads and girls also off siders travelling by bus and cars to make the day happen, thank you!! - Big Dog

Round 2 recap 🦘
The Roos hosted Old Bucks round last Saturday against the Swans. Thanks to the old buck for coming out for a fun day!
“A great day of football other than the heavy showers throughout the day. The women’s score didn’t reflect how the girls kept competing and we know it will get better, noting this was their first game for the season.
The men’s side showed patches of great footy with little lapses losing the momentum throughout the game.
Positive signs for the season as both teams will start to gel!” - Big Dog

Our Story
The Tamworth Australian Football League (TAFL) began in 1997 as a Tamworth local league with just four teams competing, the foundation clubs being the Prime Magpies, David Mitchell Swans, Courthouse Eagles and Nuttsy's Bulldogs. In 1999, Nuttsy's Bulldogs were renamed to the Cargill Kangaroos, and in 2002 the Cargill Kangaroos were again renamed to today’s Tamworth Kangaroos.
The Tamworth Kangaroos play in the AFL North-West NSW competition and compete against Armidale, Gunnedah, Inverell, Moree, Narrabri and our cross town rivals, the Tamworth Swans. We are fortunate enough to boast a Mens team, Womens team and a Juniors team.
We are a very successful club in the competition with never having missed the finals and winning 4 premierships from 7 grand finals appearances in the last 12 years. The Mens finished 3rd in the 4 other years in that period. During this period, we have also received many individual awards including 2 coach of the year, 7 league best and fairest, 5 best on ground grand final day, 5 leading goal kicker, 2 rising star and 2 sporting pulse awards. Not to mention, our Womens team made it to the Grand Final in their first season.
We are both a family club and a very social club and for the 2017 season, we secured a new sponsor: The Tamworth Hotel. The Tamworth hosts our after-match presentations and is also where the team, officials, volunteers, families & friends wine, dine and socialise each weekend.
The club has several functions each season which span across nearly the entire year and not just the footy season. We hold numerous Come and Try days, and other days such as Registration Day, Sponsors’ Day, Old Boys’ Day and Ladies’ Day. We have a host of other social events throughout the year, including our Annual Christmas Party.
The people in this club are found to represent the heart and soul of Tamworth living with a wide cross section of community members involved from business identities, hard-working people, local families and young people with big futures. It has been and remains to be a club that attracts and welcomes new people to the club and the region.
We strive to make footy all it can be and we work hard at continuing to raise the profile of AFL, both in our region and in New South Wales itself.
