Due to covid, our lifestyle completely changed. With our sitting 9 to 5 jobs and a lot of food with no physical exercise, we started gaining weight, feeling fatigued all the time and got all sorts of digestion issues. Covid took a toll on our mental as well as physical health.
We joined the gym, thinking it might help but always lacked the motivation to not only go to the gym but also to push ourselves. I injured my knee few times by doing random exercises at the gym as well.
We then realised that it is important to take professional help. I got to know about Dilshan and Thank God for that. We always look forward to our sessions with him. You can never get bored because you don’t know what to expect in the session :D It’s been few weeks and we can already see the difference in our energy levels. We are really looking forward to our fitness journey ahead with Dilshan.

Fitness is more than just fitness!💯

What is fitness to me? 🧐

I would say my idea of fitness has changed over the past few years. The younger me would have said fitness was about being a certain weight or looking a certain way. The older (and more wiser me?) would say fitness is finding a balance between a healthy body, mind and spirit.

A healthy body means taking care of myself by eating well and exercising. Feeling fit to me means knowing I am able to go out and do almost any activity (biking, swimming, running, hiking). Feeling fit means I can carry loads and loads of laundry up and down the stairs without huffing or carrying cases of water in from the car. Fitness is feeling strong, rested and confident.

Finding a certain balance and peace with my mind and spirit has become more important to me and plays a big part in my view of whether or not I feel fit. I’ve learned how to challenge myself to achieve but also forgive and accept that it’s not always possible.

Romanian deadlift & stiff deadlift maybe one of the most difficult technique to preform correctly. Difference between these two deadlift variations is their rage of motion.

🛑By no means am I making fun of anyone here🛑

💭Tips and clues to remember 🤹‍♂️

✔️Grab the barbell/ dumbbells with a overhand grip
✔️Keep your feet straight shoulder width apart
✔️Brace your core
✔️Allow your knees to bend very slightly and maintain throughout the entire movement
✔️Squeeze your arm to your armpits like you trying to stop something from falling
✔️Depress your scapular towards your back pocket
✔️While keeping your back straight & core engaged hinge forward and push your hips back like you are trying to shut a car door
✔️Hands should lineup to middle of your feet
✔️Once you get as low as you are able to then reverse the movement

Practice makes it easier.

After a rough time in 2020-21, I decided 2022 was the time to put my long term aspirations in action.This time I wanted it to be different, without high unrealistic expectations on myself.

I said – ‘just WALK’.

66 days without a skip, set a habbit & so I did…
And quickly the walk turned into a JOG..And a Jog into multiple injuries.
So I adapted, went to Physio, Chiro, GP.
Did my exercises, cycled & continued walking until I could jog again. Another attempt to run, injuries coming back. My body was weak after pregnancy, a lot of stress & lack of quality rest. �I barely remember a night of uninterrupted sleep since I became a mom.
Again working to strengthen myself.
March - I decided to walk with PURPOSE, a Cancer fundraiser.
Success!
Finally running again.

Joined Personal Training - persistence. Training my body but more my mind. Early AM wake ups without a skip, cold or rain, rested or not.
Sickness creeps in…mid April, June, July, all of us one after another - it’s constant, overlapped with broken night sleep. Running on low fuel while hitting some huge personal goals – mixed feelings of acomplishemnt & pressure.
Break, Start, Break, Start – it’s neverending.

Realising I’m a better person when my cup is FULL. Allowing myself to feel worthy of self-care.
Learning that…
It’s okay to prioritise my needs over the dirty dishes in the sink or the laundry that hasn’t been done. It’s ok to say ‘NO’ even if it means hurting other people.
It’s ok to do things without driving yourself into a mad corner. It’s ok to be venerable.
It’s ok to share the load in parenthood and work as ONE team.
It’s ok to TAKE, provided we GIVE.
But most importantly...
Learning to RESPECT myself.

The day before this run, I was completely out.
I thought about this day so many months and a straight strike – food poisoning, unwell, unable to function, so nouseaous.
I am staring to write this off in my head.
But the inner voice says, rest & assess.
I wake up 6AM, headache persist. �I haven’t eaten more than 1 fruit since past 1.5 day.
I shower, I hydrate, take my meds, get my mind ready, my body is responding well.
I CAN DO IT.

I am there. Alone.
Run begins.
In my zone.
I give my body permission to fail me.
But it didn’t take it
I stop, rest & start again.
PB - it proves me wrong again.
I was actually stronger then I believed I was.
FINISH LINE but this is really just the START.

I completely let myself go 7 months ago . I had the lowest level of confidence, frustrated because of my overweight and knee problems .

I’ve attended fitness training sessions led by fitness trainers at various gyms. Due to my knee problems and poor workout plans , I was never able to consistently complete the given workouts ,therefore I continued to be overweight.

I realised that many fitness trainers make the claim to be highly competent , helpful and knowledgeable but in reality ,all they do is give you a training schedule without considering how you are actually feeling during the activity. They rarely check your technique to see how you’re doing because of their hectic schedules , lack of enthusiasm in making changes to the strategy, which further leads to injuries. None of my efforts were taking me to the right direction. I had motivation but I lacked expert guidance.

Since I joined Westside Fitness Training , everything has changed . Dilshan has been working as a fitness professional from last 15 years . He has triumphed in numerous fitness competitions . He is a people - oriented person. With his experience and expertise he has helped many people to achieve their fitness and wellness goals. I discussed my knee issues and my fitness objectives with Dilshan on my first day at Westside Fitness Training .

Compared to other fitness trainers , what makes Dilshan stands out from other trainers is that he is kind , honest , empathetic and respectful towards all of his clients . He plans workouts as per your fitness level , your strengths, and your goal . During my training sessions he is always there for me to encourage me and to correct me if I am not exercising correctly and safely . He himself gets involved in the exercise to demonstrate the right technique . He constantly encourages me to speak out if I am not comfortable with the given workout . Dil has provided me various diet plans as per my fitness goal .

I can see myself reaching closer to my goals . With the help of Dilshan's customised workout plan, my knees are strengthening and I’ve lost significant weight. I’ve been doing workouts such as Leg press , dead lifting , lunges which my former self could never have imagined . I am incredibly appreciative of Dilshan’s sincere efforts and the time he invested to prepare diet plans and exercise regimens that are tailored as per my strengths.
