Have you seen a Play Communication Board?
They have been popping up in Wollongong at all ability Playgrounds. Communication boards are visual tools that display symbols, words, and pictures to help individuals express themselves. They support those with speech or language challenges, ensuring everyone can join in the fun and communicate effectively.
Why are they important?
β’ Inclusivity: They provide a voice for non-verbal individuals, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can interact and play together.
β’ Accessibility: By offering alternative ways to communicate, they break down barriers, making playgrounds accessible to all.
β’ Learning & Development: They help children develop language skills and social interactions in a natural, playful setting.
We believe every child deserves the opportunity to play, learn, and make friends. These communication boards are a step towards making our community spaces more inclusive and welcoming for all.

Check out our latest blog post where we share the differences in responsibilities and benefits of these two roles in the NDIS. Use the link below to read the full blog: https://www.pacificplan.com.au/blog-ndisandothernews/navigating-ndis-support-plan-managers-vs-support-coordinators

Here is a quick summary on how the NDIS is affected with the new budget for 2024.
The Australian government plans to save $14.4 billion by reforming the NDIS to ensure financial sustainability. Changes aim to address plan inflation and strengthen oversight. Additionally, $468.7 million will be invested in the NDIS and its oversight commission to stop people defrauding the system. The budget also targets tax avoidance, extending compliance programs and saving costs in the public service. These measures aim to enhance revenue and control expenditure. Overall, the strategy focuses on managing spending, particularly in critical areas like the NDIS, while also addressing revenue generation through tax compliance measures.
In Australia, about one in five people are living with a disability. Of those, approximately 80% of disabilities are invisible.
Service NSW staff are being trained in supporting customers with hidden disabilities, such as chronic pain, autism, and deafness, through the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program.
The Sunflower is a discreet way for people to share they live with a hidden disability or medical condition, and training staff under this program is just one of the many ways Service NSW is embracing inclusion.
