BMB CU Career Club কর্তৃক আয়োজিত "Idea for innovation 2.0" প্রোগ্রামের বিভিন্ন সেগমেন্ট এর মধ্যে অন্যতম একটি সেগমেন্ট হলো

"Career Talk- Road to success : Overcoming the academic challenges."

এ পর্যায়ে বক্তা হিসেবে থাকছেন চট্টগ্রাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রাণরসায়ন ও অনুপ্রাণ বিজ্ঞান বিভাগের ৭ম ব্যাচের একজন প্রাক্তন মেধাবী শিক্ষার্থী মুনতাসির জাহান, যিনি ৩১ তম বিসিএস এ প্রশাসন ক্যাডারে উত্তীর্ণ হয়ে বর্তমানে কর্মরত আছেন খাগড়াছড়ি জেলার অতিরিক্ত জেলা প্রশাসক ( শিক্ষা ও আইসিটি) ( উন্নয়ন ও মানবসম্পদ) হিসেবে।
এই সেগমেন্টে আমাদের ভবিষ্যৎ যাত্রা কেমন হতে পারে সে বিষয়ে আলোচনা করা হবে। চাকুরীক্ষেত্রে, বিসিএস কিংবা বিদেশ যাত্রা বর্তমান প্রেক্ষাপট বিবেচনায় কোনটি আমাদের বেছে নেওয়া উচিত এবং ক্যারিয়ার সম্পর্কিত বিভিন্ন বিষয়ে দিক নির্দেশনা দেওয়া হবে।

দীর্ঘসময় পর আবারো আমাদের এই গুণী শিক্ষার্থীর পদচারণায় মুখরিত হতে যাচ্ছে প্রাণরসায়ন ও অনুপ্রাণ বিজ্ঞান বিভাগ। আমাদের এ আয়োজনে আপনাদের সকলকে সাদরে আমন্ত্রণ জানাই।

বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে পড়াশুনার পাশাপাশি গবেষণার হাতেখড়ি ও উচ্চশিক্ষার অঢেল সুযোগ লুফে নিতে আয়োজন করা হচ্ছে "Academic excellence lecture series." যেখানে নিজের মূল্যবান বক্তব্য ও এ সম্পর্কিত যাবতীয় দিকনির্দেশনা প্রদান করে সাহায্য করবেন চট্টগ্রাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রাণরসায়ন ও অনুপ্রাণ বিজ্ঞান বিভাগের সম্মানিত মেধাবী শিক্ষকগণ।

উক্ত আয়োজনের ধারাবাহিকতায় "Publish or Perish: From scratch to top notch publication" শিরোনামে আলোচনা করা হবে- কীভাবে পেপার পাবলিশ করতে হয় এবং এ সম্পর্কিত বিভিন্ন কৌশল, যেখানে বক্তা হিসেবে থাকবেন আমাদের চট্টগ্রাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রাণরসায়ন ও অনুপ্রাণ বিজ্ঞান বিভাগের শ্রদ্ধেয় শিক্ষক অধ্যাপক ড. মো. মনিরুল ইসলাম স্যার।

এছাড়াও আলোচনা করা হবে বর্তমানে গবেষণা জগতের সবচেয়ে আলোচ্য বিষয়সমূহ নিয়ে, যেখানে "Current Research Trends in Biological Science" শীর্ষক আলোচনায় মূল্যবান বক্তব্য প্রদান করবেন আমাদের এ বিভাগেরই আরেকজন শ্রদ্ধেয় শিক্ষক, সহযোগী অধ্যাপক ড. সুনন্দা বৈদ্য ম্যাম।

এই সেগমেন্টে যেসব বিষয় নিয়ে আলোচনা করা হবে তার মধ্যে অন্যতম হচ্ছে- উচ্চশিক্ষায় সুযোগ, বিভিন্ন ইন্টার্নশিপ ও দেশের বাইরে তরুণদের জন্য কী কী সুযোগ রয়েছে এবং এ সম্পর্কিত যাবতীয় বিষয়। এ মূল্যবান বিষয়ে "Higher Study Global Opportunities in Biological Science" শিরোনামে নিজের মূল্যবান বক্তব্য প্রদান করতে যাচ্ছেন আমাদের এ বিভাগের আরেকজন শ্রদ্ধেয় শিক্ষক, সহযোগী অধ্যাপক ড. সোনম আক্তার ম্যাম।

প্রথমবারের মতো, চট্টগ্রাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রাণরসায়ন ও অনুপ্রাণবিজ্ঞান বিভাগ, বিএমবি-সিউ ক্যারিয়ার ক্লাবের আসন্ন Idea for Innovation 2.0 প্রোগ্রামকে সামনে রেখে আন্ডারগ্রাজুয়েট ও গ্রাজুয়েট শিক্ষার্থীদের প্রদান করতে যাচ্ছে 'Outstanding Role in Academics, Research and Extra-curricular activities'।

●সাধারণ নির্দেশনা: উক্ত অ্যাওয়ার্ডের বিজয়ী শিক্ষার্থী বাছাই করা হবে ২ টি ধাপেঃ

1) Nomination: প্রার্থীদের তাদের ছবি, একাডেমিক প্রোফাইল, গবেষণা অভিজ্ঞতা ও পাব্লিকেশন (যদি থাকে), এচিভমেন্ট & এক্সট্রা কারিকুলার অ্যাক্টিভিটিস (যদি থাকে) উল্লেখ করে একটা সিভি পাঠানোর আহবান জানানো হচ্ছে ক্যারিয়ার ক্লাবের মেইলে।

2) Committee decision: মনোনীত শিক্ষার্থীদের মধ্যে থেকে সেরা দুইজন শিক্ষার্থী বাছাই করা হবে এবং তাদের পুরস্কৃত করা হবে।

আমাদের আজকের ইভেন্ট "The Art and Craft of Scientific Presentation: Guides for PowerPoint & Design" স্যারের উপস্থাপনায় সুষ্ঠুভাবে সংগঠিত হয় যেখানে তিনি আমাদের এ সম্পর্কিত বিভিন্ন দিকনির্দেশনামূলক তথ্য দিয়েছেন। শ্রদ্ধেয় ড. আতিয়ার রহমান স্যার, চট্টগ্রাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রাণরসায়ন ও অনুপ্রাণ বিজ্ঞান বিভাগের সম্মানিত ও সকলের অত্যন্ত প্রিয় একজন অধ্যাপক, যিনি বর্তমানে থাইল্যান্ড এর ওয়াকাইলাক ইউনিভার্সিটিতে ইন্টারন্যাশনাল প্রফেসর হিসেবে নিযুক্ত আছে। অত্যন্ত ব্যস্ত এবং কর্মপ্রাণ মানুষ স্যার, সবার কাছেই একজন অনুপ্রেরণাদাতা।

স্যার সবসময় এই বিভাগটিকে নিজের দ্বিতীয় পরিবার বলে এসেছেন, একারণেই স্যারকে এই আয়োজনে বক্তব্য দিতে বলার পর স্যার দিন-তারিখ-সময় কোনোকিছুই না জানতে চেয়ে একবাক্যে রাজি হয়ে গেছেন। স্যারের প্রতি আমরা কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করছি। আপনার মতো একজন শিক্ষকের সান্নিধ্যে আমরা বেড়ে উঠতে পারছি, আমাদের সৌভাগ্য। শুধুমাত্র বর্তমান শিক্ষার্থীরাই নয়, এ অনুষ্ঠানে প্রাণরসায়ন ও অনুপ্রাণ বিজ্ঞান বিভাগের অনেক প্রাক্তন শিক্ষার্থীরাও উপস্থিত ছিলেন। আমাদের সাথে থাকার জন্য আপনাদের সকলের প্রতি আমরা আন্তরিক কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করছি।

পোস্টার এবং পেপার প্রেজেন্টেশনের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ব্যাপারগুলো নিয়ে শিক্ষার্থীদের দিকনির্দেশনা মূলক একটি সেশন নিবেন প্রাণরসায়ন ও অনুপ্রাণ বিজ্ঞান বিভাগের প্রফেসর ড. আতিয়ার রহমান। বলা হয়ে থাকে, সায়েন্টিফিক পোস্টার একটি স্টোরির মতো। কিভাবে আইডিয়া জেনারেট করা যায়,নিজের কাজকে সুন্দর করে সাজানো এবং বর্ণনা করা, গবেষণায় উল্লিখিত কাজ সম্পর্কে সঠিক জ্ঞান রাখা , গবেষণা কাজকে স্বতন্ত্র উপস্থাপন-শৈলীর মাধ্যমে রূপায়ন করা যায় এ ব্যাপারগুলো তুলে ধরবেন তিনি।

ড. আতিয়ার রহমান তার পিএইচডি সম্পন্ন করেন ইহিম ইউনিভার্সিটি জাপান থেকে। বর্তমানে তিনি প্রাণরসায়ন ও অনুপ্রাণ বিজ্ঞান বিভাগের "ল্যাবরেটরি অব অলটারনেটিভ মেডিসিন এন্ড ন্যাচারাল প্রোডাক্ট" এর প্রধান হিসেবে নিযুক্ত আছেন। পাশাপাশি তিনি থাইল্যান্ডের ওয়ালাইলাক ইউনিভার্সিটিতে ইন্টারন্যাশনাল প্রফেসর হিসেবে কর্মরত আছেন। আশা করি স্যারের মূল্যবান দিকনির্দেশনা পেয়ে আমরা অনেকেই উপকৃত হবো।

It's Eid in BMBCU really!! Just before Eid we heard the news of our alumni getting opportunities in top universities of USA for PhD . Here is the first one. ❤❤❤

Our very own Rajib Kumar Shil Sir has got the opportunity to do PhD in Biomedical Sciences at Florida International University, Miami, Florida, USA. IBS এর বাংলা অর্থ হলো, "বিরক্তিকর পেটের সমস্যা।" চিকিৎসাবিজ্ঞান অনুসারে, এটির চিরস্থায়ী কোনো সমাধান নেই। যথাযথ নিয়মানুসারে জীবনযাপনে এই রোগ থেকে উপশম পাওয়া যায়।

✏️IBS-কী?
এটি মানুষের পাকস্থলীর রোগ। এই রোগে সাধারণ পেটে ব্যাথা, পেটে খিল ধরা, পেট ফুলে যাওয়া, ডায়রিয়া, কোষ্টকাঠিন্য, গ্যাস, এসব লক্ষণ দেখা যায়, কিন্তু প্রায়শই লোকজন এসব লক্ষণকে খাবার হজমজনিত রোগ বা গ্যাস্ট্রিক এর সমস্যা মনে করেন।

✏️কখন বুঝবেন আপনি IBS- রোগে আক্রান্ত বা ডাক্তারের পরামর্শ নিতে হবে?
যখন আপনার-
১) ওজন কমে যাবে।
২)হঠাৎ করে বিশেষত রাতে ডায়রিয়া শুরু হবে।
৩) রক্তশূণতা বা আয়রণের ঘাটতি হবে।
৪) বমি হওয়া।
৫) মলদ্বার দিয়ে রক্ত যাওয়া
৬) খাবার খেতে কষ্ট হওয়া।
৭) পেটে ব্যাথা হওয়া যতক্ষণ না পর্যন্ত পেট থেকে বায়ুর প্রকোপ কমছে।
এসব লক্ষণ দেখলে শীঘ্রই ডাক্তারের পরামর্শ নিন।

✏️IBS- এর ধরণ কত প্রকার?
IBS-সাধারণত চার ধরণের-
১)IBS-C: কোষ্টকাঠিন্যের প্রাধান্য
২)IBS-D: ডায়রিয়ার প্রধান্য
৩)IBS-M: কোষ্টকাঠিন্য ও ডায়রিয়া প্রাধান্য
৪)IBS-U: উপরের কোনোটিই সঠিক প্রাধান্য নয়।

✏️IBS এর কারণ কি?
IBS এর বেশ কিছু উল্লেখযোগ্য কারণ হলো।

১)অন্ত্রের মাংশপেশির দুর্বল সংকোচনঃ
আমাদের অন্ত্রের মাংশপেশিগুলো ক্রমসংকোচন প্রসারণের মাধ্যমে খাদ্যকে পাচক রসের সাথে মিশ্রিত করে খাদ্যকে হজম করে এবং খাদ্যের অপাচ্য অংশকে সামনের দিকে এগিয়ে দেয়। কিন্তু অন্ত্রের দুর্বল সংকোচনের কারণ অসস্তিকর এক অবস্থার সৃষ্টি করে।

২) স্নায়ুবিক প্রভাবঃ
খাদ্যথলি ও খাদ্যনালির প্রাচীর থেকে নানান রকমের পাচকরস নিঃসৃত হয়। এই নিঃসরণ নিয়ন্ত্রণ করে আমাদের মস্তিষ্ক। খাদ্যথলির প্রাচীরের স্নায়ুর সাথে মস্তিষ্কের দুর্বল সংযোগ ও স্নায়ুর অস্বাভাবিকতার কারণেও IBS হয়ে থাকে।

৩) অন্ত্রের জীবাণু অস্বাভাবিক বৃদ্ধি ও মানসিক চাপঃ
আমাদের অন্ত্রে বেশকিছু উপকারী ব্যাকটেরিয়া রয়েছে, যা আমাদের খাদ্যের পুষ্টি উপাদান সংগ্রহ করতে সাহায্য করে। এসব বয়াকটেরিয়ার অস্বাভাবিক বৃদ্ধি হলে অথবা ব্যক্তির মানসিক চাপজনিত অবস্থার কারণেও IBS হয়ে থাকে।

✏️IBS হওয়ার পেছনে কি খাবারের হাত রয়েছে?
বেশ কিছু ক্ষেত্রে রয়েছে। যেসব খাবার হজমে আপনার অসুবিধা হয় যেমনঃ দুধ, ডাল ইত্যাদি, এসব খাবার নিয়মিত খেলে এই রোগ হতে পারে। এছাড়াও ব্যক্তি মানসিক চাপজনিত সমস্যায় ভুগলে এ রোগ হতে পারে।

✏️IBS থেকে রক্ষা পাওয়ার উপায় কি?
IBS থেকে চিরস্থায়ী মুক্তি পাওয়া সম্ভব নয়। তবে সঠিক খাদ্যাভ্যাস ও ডাক্তার পরামর্শ অনুযায়ী জীবনযাপন করলে এ রোগ থেকে কিছু আরাম পাওয়া যায়।
১) ক্যাফেইন জাতীয় খাবার অর্থাৎ, কফি এড়িয়ে চলা
২) আশঁযুক্ত খাবার যেমনঃ শাকসবজি, ডালজাতীয় খাবার খাওয়া।
৩) প্রতিদিন ১.৫-৩ লিটার পানি খাওয়া।
৪) ধূমপান থেকে বিরত থাকা।
৫) একসাথে বেশি পরিমাণ না খেয়ে, কিছু সময় পরপর অল্প অল্প খাবার গ্রহণ করা।
৬) যেসব খাবার খেলে অসস্তি হয় সেসব এড়িয়ে চলা।
৭) দুগ্ধজাত খাবার নিয়ন্ত্রণে রাখা।
৮) যতটুকু সম্ভব চাপমুক্ত থাকা ইত্যাদি

✏️IBS এর ঔষুধ কি?
IBS এর ঔষুধ হিসেবে রেজিষ্টার্ড ডাক্তারের পরামর্শ অনুসারে "Mebeverine Hydrochloride" গ্রুপের ঔষুধ সেবন করা যেতে পারে।

We would love to share the news that Dr. Mohammed Moinul Islam has achieved the Irisawa Memorial Award for Research in 2020. Formerly a student of BMB-3rd Batch of Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Chittagong. At present, he is an Assistant Professor of the same Department. He completed his Ph.D. degree in Medical Sciences, from the Department of Integrative and Systems Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Fukui, Japan.

He achieved this award for Excellent Papers on Research in the Journal of Physiological Sciences. The article that got him this award follows:

💡Stem Cell Transplantation: A permanent solution to AIDS❓❗

↪AIDS. The syndrome without any cure. The final destination. But is it really? Well, think again, because not 1, but 2 persons have won against the lethal HIV. And the cure was made possible by transplanting stem cells, or specifically speaking, HIV resistant stem cells, into these 2 persons' bodies. Using the flexibility of stem cells, researchers have made it possible to overcome the effects of HIV.

🔷Treatment❓❗

To understand how this successful treatment came into being, we first need to understand how HIV works its way through our immune cells. After entering the body, HIV’s first move is to bind itself with a primary cellular receptor called CD4, which are found on the surface of T-lymphocytes or T-cells. HIV then binds with a coreceptor called CCR5, which also sits on the surface of T-cells. Binding with CCR5 is a must for HIV because even if HIV binds with CD4, it can’t start the invasion if it can’t bind with CCR5. Once HIV has created the bond with CCR5, it gains access into the cells. But there are a handful of people in the world who do not have the CCR5 coreceptors in their bodies at all because of a mutation in the CCR5 gene that codes for the CCR5 receptor. This means that these people are resistant to HIV. Now, researchers wondered if they could transplant these people’s stem cells in HIV patients? Could they really inhibit the production of CCR5 coreceptor successfully?

✅Therapy⬇

To examine the likelihood of the therapy, researchers in Berlin, chose Timothy Ray Brown, of age 40, way back in 2008. Also known as the ‘Berlin patient’, Tim was infected with HIV and AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). His infected cells were replaced with a healthy donor’s HIV-resistant stem cells via bone marrow transplantation. The transplanted bone marrow cells first destroyed Tim’s infected cells and produced newly formed HIV-resistant stem cells. Though researchers stopped providing Tim HAART (Highly Active Anti-Retroviral Therapy), they didn’t stop giving chemotherapy and radiotherapy across his entire body, as well as 2 rounds of transplantation. After 20 months of close observation, researchers found that there was no sign of the virus in Tim’s blood circulation. This proved that the transplantation had been successful!

↪But that was almost 13 years ago. Again, in 2019, another patient in London by the name of Adam Castillejo, also aged 40, received almost the same kind of treatment. Known as the ‘London patient’, Adam also had HIV as well as Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. But Adam was treated in a less aggressive and less toxic way: radiotherapy was canceled, but chemotherapy continued together with ART (Anti-Retroviral Therapy), as well as a drug that specifically attacks cancer cells. When 16 months had passed after the transplantation and there was no trace of HIV, Adam stopped receiving ART. Again after 18 months of treatment, there was still no sign of the virus, although there were remnants or ‘leftovers’ of the virus. Researchers say that these may be regarded as ‘fossils’. And we all know that fossils can’t move about freely, let alone cause any further harm. Now, Adam is as capable as any other man❗

💡The Ultimate Solution❓

After reading all of this, you must be thinking that stem cells must be the ultimate solution? Well, not exactly. There is always a risk with stem cell transplantation. One of the biggest risks is the GVHD, or ‘Graft versus Host’ disease. When a graft is transplanted in a host’s body, the host’s cells often identify them as ‘foreign’ particles, but usually tend to adapt with them. But that doesn’t always happen. Very often in GVHD, the host’s cells keep on treating the transplanted cells as foreign and continually keep attacking them, thus proving the transplant unsuccessful. GVHD may occur throughout the first few months after transplantation, or after 3 or more months. Another risk is that the transplantation may completely fail, and end up damaging and infecting other organs. One other limitation is that this therapy doesn’t work on people who are infected with HIV but have no life-threatening cancer. That’s why a lot of researchers discourage applying bone marrow transplantation to patients who do not have any type of cancer. The same researchers also say that these patients should be treated with the usual ART since this therapy ensures a comparatively prolonged life.

↪Despite having so many faults, stem cell transplantation has opened new doors toward HIV treatment. As continuous research is going on in this sector, we hope that this method will soon shed off its faults and be applicable to all sorts of HIV patients.

It's a pleasure to share this news with everyone that genome sequence of nSARS-CoV-2 of Khagrachhari district has been published in a world renowned scientific journal of American Society for Microbiology's Microbiology Resource Announcements . Dr. Robiul Hasan Buiyan, an Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Md. Omer Faruq, student of BMB-21st batch (2016-17) were part of the team which undertook this brilliant work.

The team sequenced nSARS-CoV-2 strains of 11 districts of Chittagong Division and found mutations which are unique in Bangladesh perspective.

Congratulations to Mumtaza Mumu from BMBCU 23rd batch on the behalf of BMBCU Career Club for being champion in the Poster Photography Competition of "CRISPR Fest 2020" organized by the Community of Biotechnology. She have nicely presented "Citydine Base Editing" through her hand-made poster and beaten more than 15 participants from different universities.
