December is one of the coldest ❄️ months of the year but comes with a cheerful holiday atmosphere. In winter, much of Norway transforms into a snow-clad paradise 🏔️. With colours, aromas, and festive cheer 🎶, the Christmas 🎄 markets look like a winter wonderland.

Winter nights are long throughout Norway. The sun ☀️ is up for about 5-6 hours a day in Oslo, while Tromsø in the Arctic region is colder and in the dark, meaning the sun does not rise above the horizon for a full 4️⃣7️⃣ days 😮. Chances are good, though, that you'll see the northern lights - the Aurora Borealis - dance above your head!

Skiing ⛷️ plays a key role in Norwegian culture and history. During winter, you can head to ski resorts, forests 🌳, and mountains ⛰️ to enjoy powdery snow, go for a small hike 🥾or take a reindeer safari. Winter is also a great time to experience some of the world’s most beautiful train 🚂 journeys, without the crowds.

Jakob has been an active 💪 member of the team by engaging himself in all everyday activities of the Embassy; from report writing ✍️, managing social media channels, representing the 🇳🇴 Embassy at external meetings and events, leading the Embassy football ⚽️ team and much more. With his experience and ideas Jakob gave our work a fresh new perspective.

Still Jakob found time to see other parts of the country and enjoyed Bangladeshi 🇧🇩 hospitality. In Kathmandu, Nepal, he met up with other interns of the Norwegian Embassies in the region.

Jakob served as an invaluable part of our team for the past six months. We are so grateful 🙏 for all your help, Jakob and will miss you terribly 💕.

On this auspicious occasion, at sunrise, Ambassador Espen Rikter-Svendsen 🇳🇴attended the wreath-laying ceremony at the National Martyrs' Memorial, which is raised in memory of the martyrs of the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. Wreaths were laid by the President, the Prime Minister, the Diplomatic Corps and others.

During their recent visit to Cox’s Bazar Ambassador Espen Rikter-Svendsen and Deputy Head of Mission Silje Fines Wannebo had the pleasure to meet this group of talented photographers 📸 and congratulate them on their big achievement. Living in the world’s largest refugee camp, these four young photographers are telling their own stories and that of their fellow Rohingyas.

The Norwegian team also visited several ongoing and new project sights implemented by international agencies and development partners, heard about the challenges and hopes of the Rohingyas, and assessed the impact of Norwegian 🇳🇴 support on the camps and host community 🇧🇩.

Coincidentally, today is also the day that Iranian Narges Mohammadi is receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in absentia for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all.

Narges Mohammadi is a human rights advocate and a champion for others. Her brave struggle for freedom of expression has come with tremendous personal costs.

A heartfelt congratulations to Dhaka University Film Society for successfully arranging the 15th International Inter University Short Film Festival-IIUSFF 2023. This year the festival received over 1600 submissions from 96 countries 🌍! The top films have the last month been screened at different universities around Bangladesh 🇧🇩.

The is given by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency with support from Norway 🇳🇴 and Switzerland 🇨🇭to people who have done outstanding and dedicated work for displaced people. The award is named after the Norwegian 🇳🇴 diplomat, humanitarian and explorer Fridtjof Nansen, who had a special engagement for the rights of refugees.

Bangladesh connection revisited in inspiring alumnight 💫.

Ambassador Espen 🇳🇴 was delighted to host this year’s “Alumni Reception” where around 20 professionals who studied in different Norwegian Universities attended. The Alumni exchanged experiences on how their experiences from Norway are shaping their careers, shared fond memories 💞 from Norway and expressed desire to remain connected 🤝 in the future.

“Each one of you, as a Norwegian alum, has played a crucial role in promoting understanding and goodwill between our countries. Tonight, let us not only celebrate the achievements of our alumni but also acknowledge the bridge you have built between our nations. Your presence tonight is a testament to the enduring bonds between Norway and Bangladesh,” said Ambassador Espen.

This year, Norway🇳🇴 has a team in the UEFA Women's Champions League ⚽️ group stage! SK Brann Kvinner have started very well 👌, with an away win against St. Pölten last week, and just yesterday they beat Slavia Praha at Brann Stadion in Bergen.

With an attendance of over 8.500, it was one of the most visited matches in the Women's Champions League group stages this year!

There is no place greater than Nepal🇳🇵for getting a new perspective on life. Stunning landscapes with the world’s highest mountains 🏔️ and a colourful meeting-place of religions and cultures. No wonder the interns from the Norwegian foreign missions in South-Asia 🇧🇩🇮🇳🇳🇵chose Kathmandu for their recent rendezvous.

The mandatory Embassy visit comprised both an insightful introduction to the intricate relations between Norway 🇳🇴 and Nepal 🇳🇵, as well as making momos 🥟 for lunch with the Embassy’s local staff. Norway, as a major shipping nation with high environmental ambitions, has ship recycling as a prioritized sector. Norway’s Foreign Minister visited Bangladesh on 24 – 25 April 2022

Norway’s 🇳🇴Foreign Minister, Anniken Huitfeldt, paid a short visit to Bangladesh 🇧🇩 on 24 – 25 April 2022. Since taking office as Foreign Minister of Norway, Bangladesh was her first visit to a country she had never visited before🌟.

During her visit Ms. Huitfeldt met with both the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Bangladesh. 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Norway and Bangladesh 🇳🇴🤝🇧🇩. In the meetings with the Honorable Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister, the Minister discussed Norway’s steadfast support for Bangladesh and Norway-Bangladesh 🇳🇴🇧🇩partnership to foster long-term economic stability and sustainable development. They had constructive exchanges about areas where Norway and Bangladesh can cooperate more closely, including the blue economy and renewable energy. The principles of , ’s and the importance of a with free and fair , were key issues at both meetings.

“An election 🗳 seen by the world to be inclusive, free and fair, in line with international standards, will open new doors for Bangladesh in the years ahead”, the Norwegian Foreign Minister stated.

The booklet 📚on ‘Norway and Bangladesh: A Fifty-Year Relationship 1972-2022’ was launched during this visit and a copy was presented to Foreign Minister Momen.

Foreign Minister Huitfeldt also had a meeting with the Norwegian community in Bangladesh, discussing the ease-and-challenges of doing business in the country.

During her visit the Foreign Minister had the opportunity to meet and interact with representatives of government, politicians, civil society members, activists, media people, academics, thinktanks and national and international development partners in a reception organized by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka 🇧🇩.

Ms. Huitfeldt visited the camps in ’s Bazar to see with her own eyes how Norway’s 🇳🇴 contribution is supporting both the Rohingya and host communities.
