My name, gender, role, beliefs, or desires do not define me. I am a part of this limitless world and can relate to all other people as equal members of the same family. We are all members of the same family, regardless of our differences. Relationships are peaceful and harmonious when this kind of perception is held. Happy International Day of Families.

Those were the days, joint family system dominated our tradition & living...

Early morning Granny would Milk the cow at home with the help of the domestic servants, even they were not sufficient to meet our milk requirements for tea...
She would call me loudly from bed early @ 6 AM Asoka, get up & urging me to go for milk from neighbor...
Since it was emergency call I would rush out of bed & get the small steel tumbler on my hand rush for getting milk. Most of the days my urination would be carried out holding milk on the one hand . One day granny caught hold of me and assigned to my brother , Saying unfit guy for getting milk!

Telephone was invented by Graham bell may be years before, but touched our house hold early during 1980’s… My cousin’s son who is almost 3 years would compete with granny & rush tocollect the cradle, sometime granny wins mostly mukund will win, but granny would sn**ch it from him. One day on a similar situation granny grabbed it from mukund, mukund in turn give her a bite on her back, Granny started screaming you scoundrel , Young rascal get away from here… the person on the other side throw the cradle & complained to uncle, asking Is your mother on her real sense. Granny continued her pranks without any botherations..

Granny was a misery women with her house hold, children were considered to be her real enemies though she loved them. She had a small wooden Almira to stuff the sweets & tasty cookies mostly she kept priorities for us. we get them almost by the end of its expiry. Other ways waiting to be served for our Guests.

Few Guests arrived our home. Granny opened the Almira & filled latest sweets & stuff and served, children kept our distance watching her interaction with the guests. One male member said, no aunt, we may not eat sweets, good for the children know, we loved that man because he almost felt to have read our hearts well! Granny said, no Bhaskar, I put in my best efforts to prepare for you at least have some! Again the man replied negatively. This went on couple of times. One of my cousins lost his patience he reached the area of activity jumping holding the sweet plate on the one hand he vanished to the backyard & we shared the sweets. Granny was almost lost her sense on our action! She made us eat bitter Ayurvedic medicine in turn as a punishment for indiscipline.

One of those days, during our folk carnival, my uncle’s (who worked @ Qatar – Doha) came to meet up with our family. He was well treated by granny, then Mohd said aunt I would like to go to the Carnival ground can someone assist me. She said, you will meet Asokan there he will help you. Mohd was wondering as to who I would be, she clarified, Asokan is the one who wears a plain smile on his mouth & a cut half shirt & went inside abruptly. Poor mohd went in search of me with the identities provided by her.
Her small errors were our point of laugh most of the time,
As informed before she was not at all techno savvy, our Fan most of the time worked @ 2nd point of regulator, one day on her absence someone increased its speed and stopped it by making the regulator switch to Zero instead of completely stopping the fan. UN aware of that, granny arrived she, started operating the fan & failed miserably. We children were not allowed to go near the electricity switches, so we were not aware of the operations… Our neighbor Radhettan was considered as the Miracle man with electricity connections those days, who knows how to apply wires to restart the defused main switch, negative positive, etc. He was asked to be called by granny arrived little late. (Funniest think was most of the time he will arrive late to show his busy social nature) In fact he was a totally un employed man without any work.
Upon arrival he checked the fan switch & understood the whole situation, but he don’t want to make our granny desperate just by attempting to change the reulator. So he got a ladder went near the fan leaves cleaned them well Then AttemptEd to apply his screw driver on it. After half an hour’s action, he changed the tuned regulator & fan started working nicely. Giving our granny 100% satisfaction for her payment through small money & sweets. When we grew we learnt it from him to burst into laugher our loving Granny was no more to understand

MybBanyan Tree..

There was a huge sound, ………. earth shivered………….. as if the sky had fallen to earth, we thought this is the end of the world,……… it fell down like a giant in front of us and met its death.
It was an old Banyan Tree. This Banyan tree…. stood proudly in the courner of our temple It had a unique shape. There is a spooky tale behind it. It symbolised the power of nature. It evoked the notion of immortality in our minds when we were young…., like an immortal mountain, like the immortal sea or like a, diamond, we were acutely aware of the transitory nature of things around us. Everything dies – every plant, every animal, even moments die, the present becomes the past in an instant. In an ever changing world, we seek constancy, permanence. Our Banyan tree was therefore worthy of veneration; it was evergreen and shady, hence an eternal refuge for all creatures.

Gautama, Buddha got enlightenment under banyan tree- Under the banyan tree sat the sages of India, those who rejected the flesh and material world and aspired for the soul alone. This was the favourite tree of the greatest wandering hermit Shiva. Even all these myths and beliefs could not save our beloved Banyan tree. Most of my friends are now settled in different parts of the world, Some of us meet, we speak about our village and our beloved banyan tree, our voice become grief.
We still cannot forget those evenings when her branches creak slowly in the breeze, as if to sing a soft lullaby, cradling us in her arms. We often used to climb her, as if to get closer to heaven. Nothing can fill the vacuum our Banyan tree had created in our minds? Our evenings beneath her were considered resting on our mothers Lap. We lost all of them. Just because a Memoriam was constructed for a leader in the place of our Banyan tree.

People travel miles apart to know the secrets of the nature. Enjoy the union with nature. Mountains, beaches, rivers & forests Contributes a lot in our life. We talk volumes about nature prepare songs, stories and even editorials about it , Whatever contributions we make through write ups are in direct contributions we need to make direct contributions. We have to plant trees, take care of the sanity of the nature.

Dear Readers we can learn a lot from our ancient write ups, westerners today lead eco friendly life despite of their industrial progress. There is always Music amongst the trees in the Garden, but our hearts must be very quiet to hear them.
Once we start to live for the nature, nothing seems to be a problem. Studies have shown significant health gains for those in contact with nature. Such as - increased empowerment, feelings of integration, reduction in mental fatigue etc.
Our medical science such as ayurveda, nature cure are developed from nature, so our survival without plants and a green world is almost impossible. We can adopt those art and science of healthy living and drugless healing of diseases. Contacts with living nature are essential for spiritual growth. Visits to the forest or to other natural landscapes are one of the important ways of “exposing” oneself to God. One must not kill plants unnecessarily, or axe into a tree just for fun, or cut green branches unnecessarily, let us make our earth A place which is fit to lead a healthy life with a healthy mind.
We can connect our children to nature by asking them to help in the gardening. This will bring them in touch with plants, seeing them grow and develop, is a wonderful opportunity for our children to know the cycle of first hand. creation Connecting our children to cherish nature will not just help them become responsible citizens, but will make them better custodians of our home planet, the Earth.

Let me close with a phrase by ~Lucy Larson He who plants a tree, Plants a hope.

Trees & a Green world is our future, let us join

together and build a Green & Prosperous tomorrow.
