My Pharmacy Bermuda
My Pharmacy is Bermuda's newest independent pharmacy located on Point Finger Road in Charities House.
We would like to distinguish ourselves from the others by our affordability and reliability of services.
We are pleased to have won our court challenge against the government.
This case was not about challenging pharmacy inspections. It was about inspector Elizabeth Harrington and colleagues who made up rules as they went along and operated under unchecked, unquestioned, unauthorized powers.
For nearly 3 years we have complained about this behavior. Any time we complained about her actions to the Chief Medical Officer and the CEO of the Health Council, responsibility was deflected and accountability absent.
Instead, we were served with Notices or formal communications from the ministry in what we believe to be a pattern of retaliation.
When we questioned the failure of the inspector to present credentials to conduct an inspection, rather than go get them she insisted she did not need them and that she had to come in. Later we found ourselves removed from the Register of Pharmacies with no notice or due process. Similarly our suppliers were told we are "non-compliant", damaging relationships and obstructing us from being able to do business with them.
When that was challenged they introduced a new "has a valid certificate of inspection" column, adding us back to the list with a "no" in this column. They also added old pharmacies closed for nearly a decade back to the list with "no" in their columns, even though they weren't on recent lists.
We challenged this, the legal basis for annual surprise inspections alongside inspection certificates.
Ultimately the court agreed that the Minister, the Chief Medical Officer and most importantly, Pharmacy Inspector Elisabeth Harrington, operated outside of the powers afforded to them by the law.
Our court case is a small win in highlighting some of the challenges and obstructions we face as a small business pushing to lower medication costs in Bermuda.

Today we delivered to a sight challenged individual.
It really highlighted some of the difficulties that some Bermudians have not only in getting their medications but also in taking them.
We took the time to explain each medication and how to organize and take them, recognizing that simply being able to read instruction labels is a luxury that most of us take for granted.
This is an example of why we've offered delivery since we opened in November. It's not a cheap corona virus gimmick that will disappear once it passes. There are real people who need this kind of assistance.
While trying to practice social distancing and self isolating, take some time to also consider that some deal with great challenges every day, corona virus or not.

Dear Patients,
This article and other guidelines that have come to light suggest that NSAIDs like ibuprofen (Cuprofen, Advil), naproxen (Aleve), diclofenac, aspirin etc may aggravate the effects of Corona Virus.
The preferred medication for aches and pain and fever is paracetamol/ acetaminophen. (Tylenol, Panadol).
Please read the article and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to message me.

Hi, Everyone,
Some good advice on personal hygiene... hand washing ..
From Chris Kresser
"What if there were a simple and zero-cost way to reduce the spread of global diseases like coronavirus by 70 percent?
Turns out there is: proper hand-washing.
In a study published in Risk Analysis, researchers examined how often (and how well) people washed their hands in 10 of the world’s leading airports.
Their findings were alarming:
Only about 20 percent of people in these airports had clean hands (meaning they had washed with soap for about 15 seconds in the last hour).
Only 70 percent of people wash their hands after using the toilet.
Of those who do wash, only half do it correctly—using both water and soap, and washing for at least 15 seconds.
Using epidemiological modeling and data-based simulations, the researchers estimated that raising the rate of people that have clean hands at airports from 20 to 60 percent could reduce the global spread of disease by a whopping 70 percent!
This isn’t a new finding. Both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization have long recommended proper hand-washing as the most effective way of slowing communicable disease progression.
Since I started focusing on more frequent and thorough hand-washing myself a few years ago, I’ve definitely had fewer colds and flus.
So, with this in mind, here are a few tips for ensuring good hand hygiene:
Wash your hands with both soap and water for at least 15 seconds. This is a lot longer than most people do—it’s about the amount of time it takes to sing the “Happy Birthday” song twice.
If you’ve been out and about, get in the habit of washing your hands when you arrive at your destination. If you’re traveling by air, wash your hands after you get through security.
Antibacterial hand sanitizer is not only unnecessary, it’s not recommended because it can disrupt the skin microbiome and, theoretically, contribute to antibiotic resistance. That said, if you don’t have access to soap and water, it’s better to use hand sanitizer than not do anything at all.
I hope this helps to keep you and your loved ones healthier for the remainder of cold and flu season!"

🤔 “Biodegradable” is it really all it claims to be?
We have been meaning to write about this for some time. What does Biodegradable actually mean? Is it a solution? Is it greenwashing? ♻️
What do you think?
What do you know?
❓What are they ❓
Biodegradable plastics are commonly produced with renewable raw materials, micro-organisms, petrochemicals, or combinations of all three.
Biodegradable plastics are plastics that can be decomposed by the action of living organisms, usually microbes, into water, carbon dioxide, and biomass.
⚠️ The Catch ⚠️
However that only happens under specific conditions which according to the UN are not present in the oceans and environment. They need to be processed almost exclusively in industrial composters.
The description is "well-intentioned but wrong," Jacqueline McGlade, chief scientist at the U.N. Environment Program, told The Guardian.
The University of Plymouth buried some “biodegradable” bags in the soil and after three years they were still able to carry shopping!
These biodegradable options currently pose a threat of microplastics leaking into the environment and an entanglement / choking hazard for marine life.
♻️ What to do? ♻️
Just say no to plastic when you can whether it is biodegradable, compostable, made of avocados, made of seaweed, made of unicorn horn or pure magic ✨🌈
If it looks and acts like plastic chances are it will continue to do so in the oceans as well.
Interested to hear your opinions 🙏
