The 26th INTERPOL Americas Regional Conference convened at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island on Wednesday, 11th September, 2024.
Opening the historic event was the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, the Hon. Phillip Davis, who stated that the conference "reflects the critical need for unified and strategic response to the growing complexities of trans-national crime.
Over 120 delegates are participating in the three (3) day conference.
ACP. Shanta Knowles and ACP. Janet Mckenzie led a team of fourteen Bahamian women police to the 61st International Association of Women Police Conference in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The conference is being held under the theme of "Women's Empowerment."
The officers took part in the parade of the nation's flags. Sixty-five countries are represented at this year's conference.
On Thursday, August 29th, 2024, at 3:30 pm, the Police Training College, led by Commandant Chief Superintendent Laura Stuart and team at Police College hosted a special recognition luncheon to honor Audley Dean, VPR 156, for his remarkable 50 years of service as a police officer. Dean dedicated over three decades to his career as an officer before becoming a police reserve for the past fifteen years.
The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including Mr. Dean's wife, his son ASP Tabori Dean, the Director of the Police Band Chief Superintendent Seldin Adderley, Officer in Charge of ISD Chief Superintendent Dexter Hanna, Superintendent Dwayne Bethel OIC of the Force Garage, Force Chaplain Canon Stephen Davies, Mr. Wayne Miller and former and current members of the Police Band.
The celebration featured heartfelt tributes delivered through speeches and music, highlighting Mr. Dean's dedication and service. In a special moment, Commandant Laura Stuart presented Mr. Dean with a commemorative plaque and a token of appreciation, accompanied by congratulatory remarks on behalf of Commissioner of Police and SELT.
Mr. Dean expressed his deep gratitude for the touching recognition of his long-standing commitment to the force.
🚔🚨 Operation Split The Deck 🚨🚔
A team from the Traffic Division carried out an operation targeting traffic law violators. They began road checks on Baillou Hill Road near Grove Division and continued at University Commons. The operation led to the issuance of Fixed Penalty Notices, one individual being taken into custody, and the confiscation of two motorcycles.
A team of officers from the Traffic Division conducted road checks on East Street, south of Robinson Road. They issued 40 Fixed Penalty Notices and educated several drivers on traffic laws and safety.
In response to the recent housebreakings in Buen Retiro, Ch/Supt. Antonio Munroe, Supt. Geniece Barr, R/Supt. Matthew Davis, and PC 4459 Seymour organized a community walkabout. Residents received personal safety literature and contact information for the Northeastern Divisional Leadership Team.
Island Administrator Evak Arthur announced August 27 as Police Reserve Officers Appreciation Day in Bimini, commemorating the Police Reserve's 59th anniversary. To commemorate the event, Bimini's Officer in Charge, Supt Berneil Pinder, arranged a luncheon at a nearby restaurant for the island's five reservists, with Administrator Arthur in attendance.
The Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy, Kimberly Furnish, paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police and his Senior Executive Leadership Team, promoting a sense of mutual respect and enhancing the relationship between the two nations.
The funeral service for the late retired Superintendent of Police, Ezra Bradley Duncombe (1962-2024), was a deeply moving and solemn occasion, held at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church. Family, friends, and colleagues convened to commemorate his life and legacy, reflecting on his dedication and service to the organization. ⛪
The Youth Violence Conflict Resolution seminar was attended by the Domestic Violence Task Force Unit, which featured guest speakers WPC 4317 Bowleg and PC 4582 Gustave. PC Gustave addressed leadership styles and skills, while WPC Bowleg addressed violence in the community. The seminar was attended by approximately 100 individuals, all of whom were actively involved and expressed their gratitude for the presentations.
ASP Ford and the Marathon Urban Renewal team recently participated in a workshop at Claridge Primary School, where they had the opportunity to engage with teachers. The focus of the workshop was on the "Holistic Approach to Teaching in 2024."
Supt. A. Dean and WPC 4786 Francis from the Bullocks Harbour Police Station recently conducted a community walkabout and special patrol in Bullocks Harbour and Great Harbour Cay. During their patrol, they diligently checked government properties and business entities in the area.
Cpl. 1311 Renardo Brown of the Rock Sound Police Station convened with the Eleuthera Royal Youth Corps (ERYC) at the Catholic School grounds in Rock Sound, Eleuthera. The session encompassed a variety of discussions, drills, and exercises. The group had the opportunity to visit Ocean Hole Park, where they were able to learn about Bahamian jewelry from Mrs. G. Morley.
The team from Nassau Village Urban Renewal, which included W/Asp A. Ferguson and Sergeant 3128 Sweeting, visited various businesses in the Nassau Village community.
The Nassau Village Urban Renewal team, consisting of W/Asp Ferguson and Sgt 3128 Sweeting, visited Buttonwood Preschool to conduct checks while construction was underway. W/Asp Ferguson graciously lent the team a hand with their work.
W/Sgt. 2892 Gomez and W/Cpl. 3873 Munroe recently had the opportunity to attend Samuel Guy Pinder All Age School's Teacher Orientation. The theme of the event was "Navigating the Future: Charting the Course for Educational Excellence. The function of police in schools was the subject of their discussion, with an emphasis on the importance of collaboration for a successful school year.
ASP Julian Newbold, along with Inspectors Omar Leary, and Jason Gomez visited schools in North Eleuthera including Harbour Island All Age, Green School, North Eleuthera High, Laura Anderson Primary, and Samuel Guy Pinder All Age. The principals were grateful for the assistance provided by the police for the upcoming semester, as they anticipated the enrollment numbers.
ASP J. Newbold and Insp. Leary from the Harbour Island Police Station conducted business checks at local resorts, the marina, restaurants, and other entities. The purpose of the visit was to demonstrate the presence of the police, resolve any concerns, and collect feedback from business owners and patrons regarding crime prevention.
"Old School Fun" was a fantastic occasion that was organized by the Rock Sound Police Station for students. The students thoroughly relished playing games such as Red Light, Green Light, and Hopscotch, and they also indulged in some delectable refreshments. Additionally, they were provided with educational supplies to take home.
Harbour Island Police "Back to School Event"
Chief Supt. Jeremy Henfield and Harbour Island Police, along with community partners, organized a back-to-school event for students from kindergarten to high school. Attendees were provided with motivation for their studies, delicious treats, refreshing beverages, and essential school supplies. Parents and students were grateful for the kind gesture. Special thanks to Insp. Tekeina Taylor for her excellent coordination.
Cpl. 3344 Smith from Chub Cay Police Station diligently conducted a comprehensive patrol, ensuring the safety of the clubhouse, ship store, fuel dock, Chub Cay International Airport, as well as both staff and guest residences.
Insp. McNeil Johnson, along with his family, paid a visit to the residence of 88-year-old Mr. Wendal Moxey, in Fresh Creek-Andros. They graciously prepared a complete Sunday meal and attended to the needs of the elder, exemplifying the importance of giving back to the community.
Insp. McNeil Johnson participated in a Back to School Bash organized by Minister Leon Lundy in Bowen Sound, Andros. During the event, he generously offered free haircuts to male students as they prepared to return to school.
Fox Hill Urban Renewal, together with the Kiwanis Club of Nassau and Center Manager Sonia Kemp, hosted a “Free Breakfast Giveaway” for Fox Hill residents. The clothing drive was postponed due to weather, but hot meals were served at the Fox Hill community roundabout. Deborah Cash, Jackie Jones, and Assistant Pastor Sheldon Serette joined the event, which fostered community engagement and addressed local concerns
