Patella tendonosis is also called patella tendonitis or jumper’s knee.

It presents as pain at the bottom of the knee cap or right below the knee cap. It can be tender to touch the patella ligament.

Jumpers knee is usually caused by repetitive overuse in sports that require jumping like basketball, gymnastics, running, dance, or volleyball.

Sometimes other muscles like the glutes and core need to be stronger to help out the knee. At Abby Physio we can provide the right exercises and treatment to help with knee pain!

Balance is maintained by our ability to use our vision to see where we are, vestibular senses or inner ear structures to tell our brain where we are, and proprioceptive input or ability for us to feel ourselves in space.

We have proprioceptive receptors in our muscles, joints, and ligaments. This is why it is important to train balance after a ligament sprain or muscle strain.

Balance is important to decrease risk of falls, catch ourselves if we slip or trip, and make activities of daily living easier.

Some activities that require standing on one leg include:

- Getting in and out of a car
- Putting on pants/ socks
- Going up or down stairs
- Hiking or running
- Stepping over objects (like kids toys all over the floor!)
- Getting in and out of a bath tub

Follow the pictures of Tyler our kinesiologist to improve proprioception. It is best to do this in bare feet.

You must be able to do each step safely before moving onto the next.

Step 1: Stand on one leg with your eyes open.

Hold onto a wall if needed

Step 2: Stand on one leg with eyes closed.

Step 3: Stand on one leg on an unstable surface like a pillow, foam mat, or bosu with eyes open first. If you can do this you can try it with your eyes closed.

Always make sure you feel safe when practicing balance!

The “cracking” or “popping” sound heard during an adjustment is called a “cavitation”. A cavitation happens when gas bubbles are released from the fluid inside of your joint.

Adjustments can help decrease pain, improve range of motion, and increase function.

Call 604 855 5157 to book your chiropractic visit with Dr Kenton or a physio visit with one of our physiotherapists certified in adjusting.
