When the most amazing family asks you to document a day at the cottage 🥰 I couldn’t be more grateful for them inviting and trusting me with their moments.

I loved seeing the bond between cousins and how they shared their ice cream. I laughed at the banter between siblings and brother-in-laws over a board game. I admired the relationship between the grandparents and celebrating 40 years of marriage.

For now, sharing a small sneak peek collection of photographs from their time on the beach. Thankful to for getting the last image of me in action. Thank you!!!

Yesterday was my first session back and it couldn’t have been with a more amazing family 🥰 We spent the morning hanging out at their favourite neighbourhood spots to serve as a reminder of their time spent in Toronto before they move out of province. I’m sad I won’t get the chance to hang out with this fun crew again but I’m so happy to be able to give them these meaningful memories.

Today I’m reflecting on what Canada means to me while acknowledging communities that Canada has mistreated. Particularly the Indigenous communities of Canada who are suffering from sadness, grief, loss and anger. It is my goal to raise my children to be empathetic and aware humans, who appreciate all cultures and those who are different from them. We must do better. We stand with the Indigenous People of this land 🧡

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads and Father Figures out there who are the rocks of their family. To the Dads that will do anything to see their children smile. To the Dads who take it for the team. To the Dads that comfort hurt feelings. To the Dads that apply the sunscreen. To the Dads that will do anything for their families. I hope your day is filled with everything you want it to be. Happy Fathers Day 💙

Did you know during a 'Day in the Life' photography session, I don't pose my clients or position them in pretty light? Instead, I wait patiently for everyday moments to happen within the light naturally, and that is the art of documentary photography.

When I walk into your home, my mind is constantly working. The first thing I'm looking at is the light. What kind of light? Where is it coming from? Which areas have lots of light and which areas not so much? You do not need to have tons of natural light filling your home for a 'day in the life session'... I'm good at finding those pockets ✨

Next, I'm deciding which lenses to use based on the size of the room we're in or whether we're outdoors and what the family is up to. I do have my favourites, but I can and do use up to 4 different lenses throughout our day.

Lastly, I'm observing and feeling the energy. I'm listening for clues as family members are talking. Clues about behaviour, events, personality traits. This part is all about predicting and anticipating moments the best I can. I'm usually already making photos in my head and just waitttting for that perfect moment to happen in that spot. This is the most satisfying part for me. When you envision a shot and it actually happens naturally with zero direction - wow what a feeling!!

Something a lot of us Moms can relate too ❤️

Because. Because you are most likely the keeper of every emotion of all of your children and most likely your entire family, because you are most likely the sole organizer of your entire family’s doctors, dentist, ortho, dermatologist, tutors, haircuts, birthday parties, parent-teacher interviews and on and on and on. ⠀

You are most likely the keeper and maker of all the special moments, vacations and family times that they will store in their memory bank forever. Because you most likely take care of a house while simultaneously stress about bringing an income in to relieve the financial load in the house. ⠀
⠀
You most likely know what each and every one of your children is feeling and what they need without them having to utter a word but you can tell by their facial expression or response exactly what they need.....you are most likely the one that somehow manages to cram a full day of work into hours so you can cook dinner, help with homework, be their cheerleader, therapist, boo boo kisser and emotional trampoline. You are their emotional barometer for “ok”, even if you’re not you show up as if you are. ⠀

“Hey mom why are you so tired”, because you are the thread that holds it all together while barely holding yourself together but making it look like you have to all together for everyone else around you, because you don’t have the space or the time to not be together. ⠀
⠀
You are so tired because you wouldn’t change it for the world, ever. Every night, every mother knows this. ....The insane gratitude of checking on them as you crawl to your own bed after a more than insane day, wondering if they know how much you love them and if you did it ok. You will lie there and wonder how you can do better ....

But just so you know you are a dang freaking superhero, even if you’re more than slightly tired ❤️

I know it’s still a couple weeks away, but I’m unofficially calling this weekend the first weekend of summer. Who’s with me?! ☀️🙋🏻‍♀️

Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out about photography sessions this summer.

I'm feeling hopeful that I'll be able to see all of you! According to Ontario's re-opening plan, should all the numbers fall into place, photography services can re-open with restrictions during Step 2 of the plan. It's not entirely clear what those restrictions will be, but again, I am hopeful 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

This would mean sessions can potentially begin as early as July 4 and after a scheduled family vacation, I'll be booking sessions for July 12 onward 🙌🏼

At this time, I'm only accepting 'Day in the Life' bookings to ensure I get all of my yearly families in given the shortened year. I can't wait to catch up with everyone!

I hear it all the time. You’re overwhelmed with the amount of photos on your phone. You have prints from your childhood and teenage years hidden in boxes in your closets.

The idea of organizing and backing up all of these photos can be extremely overwhelming and you haven’t even begun thinking about how you’ll pass down these memories to your children.

The weight of being the family archivist sits heavy on your shoulders.

I’ve been wanting to help you guys figure this all out for years but I’ve never really found a way to translate how I organize my photos as a professional photographer to everyday life.

That’s why I’m SO excited to share I’m on the path to becoming a certified Professional Photo Organizer (yes! It’s a real thing!)

I’ve begun my training and CANNOT wait to start sharing all the tips and tricks I’m going to learn along the way (because I secretly need them too 🙃). So come along and join me on this new adventure!

I was going to write a Mother's Day post highlighting all the work mother's do. Then I thought... I'm kinda preaching to the choir here.

We know exactly how much we do. Every day, we live it. We feel it. We love it. We survive it.

And if there were ever a year we'd be more aware of that, it would be this year.
