Happy Anniversary to us! It’s not often that you get to celebrate a 36th… But back in spring 1988 Michael and Carol Buchanan decided to change the dining landscape in our fair little city. Aren’t we all so glad that they did!

This Friday the yyc food and drink experience is kicking off, and your favourite neighbourhood Chop House & Whisky Bar is looking forward to participating!

70 restaurants downtown are participating in delicous prix fixe menus all week long, and you’re certain to find the best food of the bunch right here.

Fresh Pan Seared Pacific Snapper or a delicious oven roasted pork chop with harvest chutney…. Just a tease of the full selection.

For years, Buchanan’s cooked to order ground AAA sirloin happy hour burger has been yycs best deal in gourmet food.

Thanks to supply chain, coronavirus, and the ineptitude of every single level of government in this country, the famous $14 burger will now be arriving hot, delicious, and perfectly cooked to your table for $15.

Since it’s such shocking news we’ll give everyone til February 1st to process…

So swing by for the last week or so of the $14 happy hour burger! We would love to see you. Every day 3-6pm throughout the restaurant and bar.

Mr hutz, it’s 9:00 in the morning..

Yeah but I haven’t slept in days.

It’s cold and breezy out there but that shouldn’t stop you from popping into your favourite whisky bar! A flush new selection of bottles on our wall for a young new year.

We’re but mere days away from real live American Thanksgiving!

This Thursday the 25th we’re doing all day turkey with all the fixin’s (all day football and too much gravy included)!

Come by and celebrate some freedom, apple pie, the Statue of Liberty, drone strikes, $7 minimum wage, bonded bourbon, NASCAR and everything else were so thankful to our southern neighbours for….

We cannot even begin to state our frustration and disappointment in our useless council at its latest asinine decision.

If you would like to know why every single one of you is going to have an increase in your property tax, business tax, and personal tax it’s to pay for inept projects like the 3rd Ave bike lane and one way street design.

All the rhetoric of how much this city is doing to help falls on deaf ears when you see what’s actually happening. We’re losing 28 parking spots directly in front of our business to make way for a bike lane. It’s November.

We don’t hate cycling, but when calgarians are forced to pay to redesign our city to subsidize a for profit Silicon Valley scooter company’s visions of a ‘green inner city’ one can see where the contempt starts..

If you want to help small business let those places have access! A double wide bike lane with no parking all winter isn’t really conducive to helping a restaurant succeed…. Especially when if you look closely, you’ll notice there is a massive well designed RIVER PATHWAY with no lights, intersections, cars, or emergency vehicles on that is about 100 meters away..

Thanks for your useless vision of what downtown Calgary has become.

Happy Canadian thanksgiving long weekend yyc!
Saturday night our famous three course returns. Harvest mixed greens, oven roast turkey with stuffing gravy potatoes (all the fixin’s as they say) and Lee’s nearly world famous pumpkin cheesecake!

We hope to see you this weekend! Cooking for everyone is far too arduous…. Let your favourite Chop House take care of the leg work.

We’re also returning to our fall hours Saturday. We will open at 5:00 for dinner service going forward on Saturdays.

Starting Monday sept 20th Buchanan’s will be participating in the restrictions exemption program. We will require proof of vaccination or a negative covid test to allow you to dine in with us. Please be patient and understanding with our staff as we implement the newest measures our government overlords have deemed necessary…
