๐Ice: Applying ice to the injured area helps reduce pain, inflammation, and swelling by constricting blood vessels and numbing the affected area. Ice should be applied for 15-20 minutes at a time, every 2-3 hours during the first 48 hours after the injury. It's essential to wrap the ice pack in a cloth to protect the skin and avoid ice burns.
๐Compression: Using a compression bandage or elastic wrap helps control swelling and provides support to the injured area. The compression should be snug but not too tight, as excessive pressure can interfere with circulation. It's important to reapply the compression bandage if it becomes loose or uncomfortable.
๐Elevation: Elevating the injured limb above the level of the heart helps reduce swelling by promoting the drainage of excess fluid from the injured area. Ideally, the injured limb should be elevated whenever possible, especially when resting or sleeping.
