Solidarity is at the centre of mutual aid. You have seen us use this word but may not know what it means. We have received the odd message here and there of people who are confused as to why we post so often of things such as Palestine, trans rights, or migrant worker rights; this is why.
Mutual Aid request by local community members.
“We are a young q***r neurodivergent and chronically ill couple who have been living in non private and unsafe housing for 2 years. We currently have the opportunity to finally achieve long term housing and are looking for assistance with pre-rental and moving costs due to urgency, And/or compensation for these fees to use for necessities such as groceries, medication, and hygiene products.”

Eid Mubarak!
💛
Thank you to everyone who came out to the first Freecycle of the season (back this year by popular demand)! It was such a joy to spend today in community, learning new skills, and meeting new people.
💛
We are hoping to do another one later in the summer so stay tuned for that.🙂
💛
This event, and all the work CMA does, takes place on the unceded territory of the Mi’qmak People. We encourage you to read the 231 Calls for Justice in the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMWIG) Report and for us all to continue to educate ourselves on the historical and ongoing harms of colonialism and white supremacy.
We are sooooo excited about all of the great skill-sharing, workshops, and services that community members will be offering this Sunday at Freecycle!! Take a look at the schedule and plan your day around the things that interest you - or stick around all day, we’ll be happy to have you!
We are looking for folks who would like to share a skill/service as part of our Freecycle market on June 16th! In the past, we have had community members offer different workshops or services throughout the day and we are so excited to do it all again!
This is a great opportunity to make some new friends, enjoy the outdoors, and make connections with your community. If you would like to host a workshop, ideally it would be around 45-60 minutes. If you would like to share a service, you can stick around as long as you want/are able to!
Please reach out to us via email or DMs if you are interested or have any questions! We can’t wait to see you there - Freecycle is always a fun day of community 😊🌿
It’s time for another free market! Join CMA and .ushr on Sunday, June 16 from 10am-3pm for FreeCycle: an all things free market!
☀️
All are welcome to join us to take what you want and leave what you can, no requirements or strings attached. There will be a free BBQ over lunch time, refreshments throughout the day, and lots of fun!
We will have various workshops and services ranging from cross-stitching to a barber, and there is lots of space for more! If you have a talent or service you’d like to share, please contact us!
☀️
We will be posting more details soon!

Charlottetown Mutual Aid is looking to formalize the way folks get involved in the work we are doing in order to expand the network of care that exists in Charlottetown. Our hope is to bring more folks in so that mutual aid can be done more sustainably and have a wider reach since mutual Aid is for everyone and with everyone. This is a collective effort.
With that, we created a google form where you can sign up to get involved directly with CMA! Whether you want to hear about one-off opportunities or get involved on a more regular or behind-the-scenes way, sign up! 🙂
Our values are at the forefront of what we do. If you are unfamiliar with us or with the concept of Mutual Aid, please take a look through our page to see if it is the right fit for you. 💛🇵🇸🏳️⚧️

Attending Women's Network PEI Women's Festival on May 18 at the Delta Marriot?
If so, please bring a few non-perishable food items to donate to our Food Drive! We will be located in the "Community Fair" area of the Festival from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm.
All donations will go to the PEI Community Fridge!
👉Not attending the Festival? No worries! We are planning a community food drive in June. Stay tuned to our social media for details!
last month, members of CMA donated a carload of household items and clothing to the Summerside Free Store, and received a quick tour of the space. If you have items you are looking to donate, this could be an option. The folks running it do not police how much folks can take, which is something other places locally have not upheld.
is something like this something you’d like to see in Charlottetown?

What is Mutual Aid?
Mutual Aid is about filling in gaps through community efforts so people are not left behind or forgotten.
Mutual Aid is also political and looking at how we can disrupt and dismantle our consumerist and capitalist system by seeking an alternative way of getting what we need. This is incredibly important when thinking of the BDS movement and how the places we spend our money can have huge impacts.
This post serves as a tip of the iceberg into what mutual aid is and how to apply it into our lives. We hope to continue to post more so we can all learn and grow together.
The work CMA does is on Epekwitk, the unceded and ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq people. Land Back for all occupied people.

CMA joins in calling for the City of Charlottetown to honour its bylaw and repeal the resolution allowing some STR operators to continue despite not falling within the rules. Please sign the petition created by PEI Fight for Affordable Housing:
Sign Petition to Mayor Brown, Deputy Mayor Jankov, and Charlottetown City Council On January 8th, Charlottetown City Council went back on their promise to regulate short term rentals. They unanimously passed a resolution during a closed session to allow for short term rental units whose operators hold a Tourism Industry Act license and who had been operating their short term rent...

We’re continuously working to create a supportive, loving, and radical community where we can come together and practice mutual aid. We’re excited to share some exciting news with you!
We’ve launched a new Community Care Facebook Group, a space designed to facilitate direct mutual aid within the community. This group is intended to organize the Epekwitk/PEI community to facilitate mutual aid between community members, build and strengthen our relationships, and ensure that vulnerable community members have their needs met.
Once you are accepted into the group, we ask that you carefully read through the group guidelines. We hope this will be a harm-reduced and supportive space for everyone to both give and receive mutual aid.
We believe that this new platform will further strengthen our community bonds and provide an accessible and direct way for individuals to support one another. This is an open group to anyone living on the Island, so please share and invite others you know to join!
Senator Downe’s racist, xenophobic, and islamophobic comments made in the Senate are not okay and he needs to be held accountable. We call on Senator Downe to resign immediately from his role and to issue an apology detailing how he will educate himself to fill these dangerous knowledge gaps.
We encourage everyone to contact Senator Downe. Here is the link to the email template: https://tr.ee/GFcK9FynhL
We encourage you to also read the statement written by BIPOC USHR and add your name to it: https://tr.ee/HoqWV3kQ7q
As mentioned in our our official social media calendar is here to keep you updated on everything going on with us this month.
Stay tuned for more updates on our Upcoming Event ❤️

Premier Danielle Smith recently announced a collection of harmful new policies and rules targeting transgender, non-binary and gender fluid Albertan children and youth.
Children have the right to life saving and life affirming care. They have the right to their names and their pronouns. They have the right to factual s*x education and the opportunity to participate and compete in sports without harassment. These new policies and rules will result in children suffering and possibly dying.
Charlottetown Mutual Aid stands with transgender, non-binary, and gender fluid children and youth in Alberta as well as their families and we stand with and for the rights of 2SLGBTQA+ children across this territory as well.
