CZF 2023 was a blast! Thank you to everyone who came through the door. Thank you to all of the tablers, the library staff, the kind people who lended tables, our funders the and the .council, and all the folks who helped make it happen. We can’t wait for round three in 2024!

they’ll be for sale at zine fest for $5-$10 sliding scale. in the future your grandchildren will see this print on your wall and you’ll say, that’s right kids, once a year in autumn i used to visit a large room in the library to buy sell and trade all sorts of underground handmade magazines…those were the days!

We did a Zines 101 in the morning and then indie comix pro walked us through narrative drawing exercises in the afternoon. It was a great day and we’re so grateful for the community of creative people here!

This zine — by — will use linocut prints as a medium to explore trans joy and my experiences as a non-binary person. It will be a love letter to the trans community, in addition to a beacon of light to those of us feeling burdened by the increasing transphobia in our communities.

Chasqui by .art is a short comic of a young Incan messenger following in his father's footsteps. When he's sent on a mission he stumbles upon the arrival of Spanish colonizers, putting his journey and heritage to the test.

An illustrated fantasy zine by set in a mystical forest, where a curious Wolf's pursuit of a distant sound leads him to a wounded and mysterious Fox, but their fateful meeting is interrupted by a volley of arrows, changing their destinies.

PORTALS is a collection of written works by Charlie Smith with accompanying photography & design by Hannah Bridger. This artist's book documents the (trans) body in flux, walking the line between voyeurism and vulnerability.

Kirstie McCallum's artist’s booklet evolves out of their August 2023 “The Art of Water Security” workshop. It translates mapmaking data about the Winter River watershed into a memorable visual document that celebrates how the watercourse changes and interacts with the landscape over time.

After putting out a call for publication grant submissions and receiving dozens of excellent proposals, five projects were selected by random draw. These creators will use the publication grants to make their zines, comics and artist's books between now and March 2024. Thank you to the Canada Council for the Arts and the City of Charlottetown for funding these projects!

Saturday, October 14th: Explore the narrative potential of drawing with cartoonist Tyler Landry

💥🗯️➡️Comics and visual narratives have been a constant presence in the zine and DIY publishing landscape, and remain the easiest access, lowest cost way for us to record and share stories. Learn to draw a story with internationally published cartoonist Tyler Landry. Participate in drawing exercises with a focus on clarity and meaning, and learn the basic building blocks of composing a narrative in pictures. Teens and adults of all skill levels are welcome.
Sunday, October 15th: Learn one of the oldest forms of photography in this hands-on introduction to cyanotype printing

🔵🌸➡️This workshop will cover how to mix cyanotype chemistry, techniques for coating materials, guidance on selecting what to print and exposure times, and developing and toning your prints. Attendees will leave with a new skill under their belt, along with cyanotype artworks from Sarah. Flowers, feathers, fabric, acetates and more will be provided for the use of printing the monograms, but feel free to bring along your own materials if you feel inclined. Open to all ages and artistic backgrounds.

Announcement!
This year the Ch’town Zine Fest is excited to offer five PUBLICATION GRANTS to Epekwitk based zine makers! These grants will provide a $1,000 creation budget to go towards a new zine or artistic publishing project 📚💸❤️
These grants are best suited for folks who have a bit of zine making experience and are interested in taking on a more ambitious project with the budget provided. We will also be able to offer some technical support and guidance throughout the process!

Tablers are registered on a first come/first served basis so be sure to sign up this week if you’re keen! We can’t wait to see the incredible things you’ve made over the past year and we hope to see some new faces as well :-)
Ch’town Zine Fest is supported by the City of Charlottetown and takes place in the Rotary Auditorium at the Charlottetown Library Learning Centre
Well well well, the Ch’town Zine Library has gone form 🐛 to 🦋! No longer a shoebox in a closet, it is now available to the public from the basement level gallery of the .
The library was created from materials purchased during the first edition of the Ch’town Zine Fest tabling fair in 2022. It showcases a wide variety of content and zine-making techniques, by creators ranging from primary school students to professional artists. Stop by sometime and enjoy the wonders of self-publishing!
The Ch’town Zine Library will be at the Confed Centre until September 2023. After that…who know. Anyone know a nice wall? 🧐😉
