Over a series of videos, I’ll discuss sleep and all things related to why we might have troubles with asleep and what we can do to improve sleep.
This graph illustrates how cortisol and melatonin change over a 24 hour circadian cycle.
Come join me and the Nature Folk Community for an upcoming free talk about all things sleep. This is a free info session and attendees will receive a 15% voucher for the thermal circuit or infrared saunas.

Two more weeks left to see me in-person at Nook 🕑
Big update!
After a lot of consideration, my husband and I have decided to make the move to Halifax, NS this spring. From one coast to the other.
Firstly, I want to assure my patients in British Columbia that I will still be available to see you virtually. Distance will not be a barrier to continuing our therapeutic relationship.
For those who are seeing me in person, sadly, I will say goodbye to the Nook on May 1. I have some availability left in April for those who want one last in-person treatment.
Thank you all for your support over the years and throughout this transition. I am grateful for my time in Vancouver and I’m very excited to start this new chapter in Halifax.
Spring is here, and with it comes a friendly reminder to take care of your health! As the flowers bloom and the weather warms up, it's the perfect time to prioritize your well-being. If you haven't already (or if it's been a sec), consider seeing a naturopathic doctor to help you achieve your health goals.
Naturopathic doctors focus on treating the whole person, not just bandaid-ing symptoms. We use natural therapies such as herbal medicine, acupuncture, and nutrition to help you achieve optimal health. Whether you're dealing with a chronic condition or want to boost your overall wellness, a naturopathic doctor can help.
So this spring, prioritize self-care and schedule a visit with a naturopathic doctor. Your body will thank you!
That’s all 💧
Hello 👋🏻
I’m Dr Alexandria and I have a general naturopathic practice in downtown Vancouver.
I see a wide range of conditions but have a passion for digestive health, stress and burnout, and skin conditions like acne and eczema.
My philosophy is to start with the basics, establish health habits and build from there. All the while, exploring the root cause of health concerns.
I’m currently accepting patient both virtually and in person. Please reach out if you’d like to know more.
Stay hydrated folks 💧
Nature is medicine 🌲
Spending time in nature provides a sense of tranquillity, peace, and disconnection from the distractions and demands of modern life.
Studies have shown that observing nature has been linked to improved mood, sleep, and cognition, reduced blood pressure, enhanced immune function, and a lowered risk of various chronic diseases.
Ways to incorporate more nature into your routine:
-Go for a walk in a park
-Garden
-Open a window to let in fresh air and sunlight
-Select a nature pic for your desktop background
-Ask me about how to get a Parks Canada Discovery pass for FREE ♥️
Happy New Year everyone 🕊
January has always felt like a month of opportunity. It's a time to reflect on the past and consider goals for the future. This is much like my approach to healthcare: using the past to inform the present and making attainable changes today to help fulfill both short and long-term goals.
What are your goals for 2023?
📸
Cold and flu season 🤧 We're in it, so here are three easy ways to avoid getting sick this winter.
1. Movement. When we engage in physical activity, we increase circulation. Increased circulation moves blood and lymph through the spleen, liver, and lymph nodes, where our immune system can detect and fight pathogens.
2. Sleep. Our immune system is upregulated during sleeping hours to heal damaged tissues and defend against viruses and bacteria.
3. Hydration. Similar to movement, hydration improves blood and lymphatic circulation. Lymph contains white blood cells, which serve to fight infections.
The specific requirements of sleep, hydration and movement will differ from person to person. Please speak with your doctor or visit me for individualized recommendations.

There are still a few spots left in my schedule before the end of the year. This is a great time to book in and use those benefits!
PS: it’s been especially cozy at Nook these days ☺️
If you have naturopathic benefits, now is a great time to book your initial visit and prioritize health 🧡💛
This is my Grandfather, Robert Brinkurst, who served as an aircraft pilot with the RAF and RCAF.
Grandpa was stationed in England shortly after the second world war when his seat malfunctioned and ejected him only 100 m above the ground. His parachute barely opened in time to save his life and earned him a spot in the Caterpillar Club (a club for those whose lives were saved by parachutes).
Today I remember him and the many other veterans who have served and continue to serve our country. My grandpa was a very influential part of my life, and I miss him every day.
Happy Halloween 🎃 👻
😌 relaxing Saturdays at Nook.
Nook is looking to welcome a professional into this bright and beautiful space 🌿☀️🩺
Nook is a 300-square-foot office on Homer and Pender in downtown Vancouver.
The price is negotiable depending on practitioner needs and the number of days in the clinic (Expect between $75 and 150 per day). The available days are Sunday-Wednesday, and we're looking to fill the space as early as Nov 1.
The space is set up for NDs, acupuncturists, RMTs, and bodyworkers, but we're open to other professions.
Please reach out if you're interested!
New service announcement 👀
I am so happy to announce that I am now offering nutrient IVs in my practice.
There are a few ways of obtaining vitamins, minerals and other micronutrients, food being the most basic and essential. For those who have dietary restrictions or poor digestion/absorption, vitamin IVs are a great option. IVs bypass the digestive system and allows for the complete absorption of nutrients. This is not for everybody, but it can make a HUGE difference in the right patient.
Current patients can book this service via my website (see link in profile). New patients can book an initial visit, and we can chat more about IVs and other treatment options.
If you have any questions about nutrient IV therapy, please reach out. I'm always happy to chat!

The other half of Nook got married! Congrats Sean + Dan. And thanks for throwing one helluva party 🥂
I’m very happy to announce that I’ll be offering nutrient IVs to my patients very soon 👀 many thanks to for the amazing course and to all the lovely patients who came through the clinic today.
Iron deficiency🩸
Iron deficiency is the most common nutritional deficiency worldwide. This condition is common in people who menstruate, lack dietary iron, have difficulty absorbing nutrients, and during pregnancy.
Iron deficiency can cause fatigue, headache, weakness, cold hands and feet, and brittle hair and nails. Eventually, iron can dip low enough to cause iron deficiency anemia leading to additional and more pronounced symptoms.
Some signs of iron deficiency include pink p*e after eating beets, craving ice chips, a swollen and smooth tongue, pale inner eyelids, and cold hands and feet. Some of these signs could be caused by other conditions, so please ask your doctor if you suspect iron deficiency. A diagnosis of iron deficiency is ultimately made based on lab results. People tend to feel a lot better when iron stores are increased, so this is definitely something to look into.
Vacation schedule ✈️
I will be out of the office from May 15 until June 5 while taking a long overdue trip to visit family and friends on the east coast.
I have availability in my schedule over the next three weeks to accommodate patients (existing and new) before leaving. You can book through my website or call/email if you need any naturopathic support during that time.
The Nook was in full attendance at the Illuminations luncheon. The topic was on better understanding women’s health through research, and improving health outcomes for women at all stages of life.
