Looking for CE opportunities? The First Responder Couples Workshop has been approved for 42 CE credits.
Ten Couples Needed for First Responder Focus Group Workshop
In a few weeks, I’ll be graduating as a Counselling Therapist with additional specialized training in trauma and the effects of trauma on relationships. I’ve developed a two-day workshop for couples and am looking for ten couples in the Edmonton area to be part of a focus group to help me beta-test this program. This two-day workshop will occur on July 20th and 21st (Sat & Sun) from 09:00 – 16:00 at The St. Albert Inn in St. Albert, Alberta. There is no cost to attend this focus group workshop, but in return, I will ask for your feedback to tweak the program before I offer it to future clients.
This workshop is specifically designed for couples where both or one of the individuals works in emergency services. The stresses of emergency work and the symptoms they cause pose a unique set of challenges for couples. In this two-day workshop, you and your partner will learn how to navigate these unique challenges and come to a place of empathetic bonding, unified detachment from traumatic symptoms and reconnect through acceptance and commitment. Understanding the symptoms of trauma, how they trigger issues in relationships and learning communication techniques to manage these challenges best are the focus of this workshop.
Objectives:
• Learn how trauma triggers relationship issues.
• Recognize defensive adaptations to trauma.
• Reconnect through understanding and effective communication
• Acknowledge core values and learn how to validate them internally
• Learn the neuroscience behind trauma and discover how it changes our behaviours
• Reconnect through understanding, commitment and empathetic bonding.
If you and your partner would like to attend this focus group workshop for free and give me your feedback for future couples attending the workshop, then email me at [email protected]
Thank you, and have a great week everyone,
Daniel (DanSun)

King Charles III Coronation Medal Announcement

A Canadian commemorative medal has been created to mark His Majesty King Charles III’s coronation on May 6, 2023. The King Charles III Coronation Medal is a visible and tangible way to recognize 30 000 outstanding Canadians, of all ages and from all walks of life, who have made a significant contribution and difference. To ensure the broadest possible recognition, several partner organizations have been invited to nominate candidates from their communities or organization for this award.
The Paramedic Association of Canada (PAC) was selected to present nominations for 175 King Charles III Coronation Medals. These medals will be presented to paramedics who have “made significant contributions to Canada, a province, territory, region, or community, or an achievement abroad that benefits and honours Canadians and Canada.” As a chapter of the PAC, the Alberta Paramedic Association (APA) has been allocated 12 medals to recognize the contribution of paramedics.
The APA is encouraging paramedics to consider nominating those who work and volunteer in vital paramedic sectors of our community as clinicians, educators, and researchers. The King Charles III Coronation Medal nomination presents the opportunity to recognize unsung individuals across the broader paramedic community landscape, including those that may have contributed while in Canada or internationally and in remote and/or in unique paramedic practice settings or roles.
The deadline to submit nominations is June 20, 2024.
The Alberta Paramedic Association team takes great pride in announcing its participation in the presentations of this prestigious emeritus award!
