This Spring, I will be coming up to 10 years in business. A decade of growing, evolving and utter dedication to this craft and practice.

Over the course of a decade, my practice, knowledge, and relationship with plants has deepened alongside my transition from maiden to mother.

6 years ago, I had an active clinical practice that I closed the door on when I became pregnant with my first daughter. I focused on nourishing my roots at home- literally + figuratively. We transformed our living space into a full blown apothecary, including growing our own botanicals in our own backyard. It gave me the opportunity to quiet my 'clinical' mind and come into an embodied relationship with plants.

To be honest, when I made the switch from the 'hustle' to home, I intended on this business just being a small side hustle to give me a creative outlet during early motherhood.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine what would happen next.

That I would create a multi-six company, from home, with babies on my back. The pandemic, as challenging as it was, actually grew my business exponentially as folks shifted their priorities to what really matters- our health, supporting small businesses, and our communities at large. We outgrew our space quickly, and partnered with a local warehouse to support us with storage and order packing and delivery. I brought on in home support. The Wild Roses Festival was born, unexpectedly in the height of all of this, inevitably creating another full time job on top of my already blossoming brand and of course, parenting toddlers.

I navigated lawsuits, a rebrand, and many pivots along the way - and while it as an incredibly challenging time, I am grateful.

In 2023, I found myself navigating heartbreak (in many ways) that allowed space to actually rest, reflect and integrate. To be with what is- and to sit with my purpose, intent and desire.

And what I crave the most is simplicity, creativity and joy. And in that, comes the need to surrender so much of what is no longer in alignment or relevant to my path now and an invitation to move forward in a new way.

Taking cannabinoid medicine to the next level. ⁠

As you all know, I am a huge advocate for Cannabis as medicine. I haven't been shy in sharing my conscious cannabis use over the years, especially as a ally for motherhood. Some of my favorite strains that I use regularly are high in terpenes that amplify the healing effects of cannabis.⁠

What are terpenes? Terpenes are aromatic compounds found in many plants (including cannabis) that work synergistically with cannabinoids to enhance their effects through what is commonly referred to as the entourage effect. Terpenes are known to have various therapeutic properties themselves, such as anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, and sedative effects.⁠

When essential oils containing terpenes are used alongside CBN, they may amplify CBN's effects on the body. In my experience, when working with certain cannabis strains AND essential oils containing terpenes, I've found greater benefit with managing stress, anxiety and inflammation. ⁠

Here are some of the terpenes you will find in our 'Terpene Tonic' essential oil blend. ⁠

Linalool: Found in lavender linalool has sedative and anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) properties. When combined with CBN, which also has sedative effects, it may enhance the relaxation and sleep-inducing properties of CBN.⁠

Myrcene: This terpene is known for its sedative effects and is found in Lemongrass. Myrcene may synergize with CBN to further promote relaxation and sedation.⁠

Linalyl acetate: Found in Lavender and Clary Sage, Linalyl acetate has been shown to reduce blood pressure, alleviate anxiety, and provide cardiovascular protection.⁠

1.8 cineol: Found in Eucalyptus, this terpene helps to open airways, soothe inflammation and provide antioxidant effects on the body.⁠

Beta-caryophyllene: A powerhouse terpene, found in Copaiba, provides neuroprotective effects as well as supporting a healthy inflammatory response. Youll notice we use this resin quite frequently in our anti-inflammatory products, like Enchantress. ⁠

Folks- winter is *finally* officially here- which means, we can expect drier-than-normal skin with this massive snow storm we're having. ⁠

Here are some of my COLD WEATHER skin tips:⁠
⁠
1. PROTECT YOUR BARRIER! This means using occlusive, skin sealing ingredients that protect your skin from the harsh elements. Using our ceramide rich facial oils and then layering a facial BALM on top is key to hydrated, dewy skin (even in -30)⁠
⁠
2. Do NOT overexfoliate! (even with actives like AHA + BHA). Our Nourish Masque is our go to for gently removing flaking skin without abrasion. It has pink clay, hydrating coconut milk, and cucumber extract. Use 1-2x a week and whatever you do- DO NOT let the clay masque DRY on your skin- keep it hydrated with a facial mist while it does its magic!**⁠

3. LAYER UP! Yes, this could mean protecting your face from the elements- but I also mean, proper skincare layering for the most humectant, hydrating effect. Remember- cleansing with a facial oil is one of the most effective ways to remove dirt, makeup and debris while also replenishing the skin. Start with your oil cleanse, then layer up from the level of ABSORBABIITY and skincare hydration which would look like oil cleanse-> tonique -> facial oil -> balm.⁠

4. Internal hydration- this one is a must, but if you're feeling over water, opt for hydrating, caffeine free herbal teas. Add a pinch of high quality salt for extra mineralization!⁠

Lemon Balm, also known as Melissa (melissa officinalis is it's latin name) has been used for centuries as 'the balm for soul'. ⁠
⁠
Traditionally used for aiding meloncholy, depression, and anxiety- even it's cheery, uplifting citrus aroma brings light to the spirit - but the medicinal effects are profound.⁠
⁠
In fact, a randomized, double blind, placebo controlled study that was just released last month (May 2023) showed a significant decrease in anxiety and depression in adults (25-65 years old) when taking Lemon Balm regularly for 12 weeks. (!!)⁠
⁠
One of my favorite things about Lemon Balm- is that it is gentle enough to use with most people, including children and seniors with very little contraindications.⁠
⁠
Lemon Balm also possesses strong anti-viral and anti-bacterial action- and one of the most profound parts about this, is that it effectively addresses the Herpes head on- while also modulating stress which, as we know, can create herpes flares in most people. Using the essential oil, diluted 25-50% into carrier oil, can effectively reduce duration of herpes breakouts. I usually recommend my clients to also drink Lemon Balm tea (or tincture) to quell stress and anxiety- while lowering blood pressure, helping with sleep and bringing ease to their CNS.⁠

Lemon Balm is SO easy to grow in containers or pots, and can be cut back and regrown throughout the growing season here in Alberta. Dry it and make tea, macerate in Apple Cider Vinegar or Alcohol to make a tincture, add fresh leaves into smoothies or iced teas- the options to use this are infinite! ⁠
