We are proud to annonce David Cameron of Wostawea X-Country Ski Club is the first recipient of the Dave Moore Award.

Nous sommes fiers d'annoncer que David Cameron du club Wostawea est le premier récipiendaire du Prix Dave Moore.

Congratulations to the Ferguson-Mooers Family and to the Popescu-Couture Family who share the Morimano Family Cup for the family who skied the greatest number of kilometres during our 2024 Loppet Event.

The Morimano Family was there to present the Award.

This year, the recipient of the Nancy Hamilton Award for volunteer of the year was Kristie Heard. Thank you so much for all the tuques you wear at the club Kristie !

Last Thursday was our volunteer appreciation event. We had a great get together at the The Landing Fredericton to thank all the amazing Wostawea volunteers who make this club so special. They enabled us to host programs and hold great events with very little snow!

Special thanks to Joel and Alex who entertained us and to The Landing team for the great service. The food spread was amazing and delicious !!

Thanks also to Radical Edge Bike & Ski for their ongoing support.

Cross-Country ski New Brunswick's AGM

By being a member of Wostawea, you’re also a member of Cross-Country ski NB. You’re invited to attend Cross-Country Ski NB spring AGM on May 26th in Miramichi, at the Miramichi cross-country ski club, 10 am.

During this meeting, our extraordinary long time volunteer, David Cameron, will be the very first recipient of the the Dave Moore award. This award recognizes « an outstanding long-term commitment to cross-country skiing in NB, leadership at local, regional or national level and a commitment to help increase participation in the sport.»

Congratulations David! We hope to see many Wostaweans in attendance to celebrate with you!

Wostawea is proud to announce that we are recipients of support from the Equity Initiative, funded by Sport Canada’s Community Sport for All Initiative. This money was used to support the Ski Playground this season that aims to reach newcomers to Canada. Thank you for helping us welcome more people to cross-country skiing.

On February 24th, Jackrabbits group got to try biathlon, ski jumping and fun events on the ski playground. It was so much fun to see kids and parents try to ski jump! Some of the MCAF skiers also tried the various events. We had skiers who came by in the afternoon specifically to try biathlon or ski jumping. A few families came to try skiing for the very first time.

Le 24 février, nos groupes Jackrabbit ont eu l’occasion d’essayer le biathlon, le saut à ski et plusieurs activités amusantes sur le terrain de jeux. C’était très amusant de voir parents et enfants tenter le saut à ski ! Quelques skieurs de notre partenariat avec l’Association multiculturelle de Fredericton ont aussi essayé les différentes activités proposées. Certains skieurs sont venus en après-midi pour essayer les activités proposées. Au cours de l’après-midi, quelques familles sont venues essayer le ski de fond pour la toute première fois !

Meet us in the basement of the lodge(right side of the building when you’re facing it) and will go for a hike. Dress according to the weather and wear shoes that can stand mud. Unfortunately, with the weather predicted later in the week, we cannot safely hold a Lunar Ski on Thursday, February 29th. The trails at the Woodlot and Killarney are still skiable (especially if you like to go fast), so we hope you can all enjoy a ski early this week before the temperatures rise and the rain begins!

Frosted Bites will go ahead as planned at Killarney on Sunday Feb 25 from 12-3PM. The trails are still in good shape so come enjoy some skiing while the conditions last. Treats will be served next to the parking lot/ski playground this time.

MOONLIGHT SKI OUTING
Come and enjoy the extra day of skiing this leap year is offering us. Skiers are invited to join in on a moonlight ski, February 29 at 7:00 pm at Killarney Lake. Don’t forget you headlamp. Après ski will be at Trailway Brewing.

The snow must go on. Ski club calls on volunteer shovellers After a warm week, conditions on Fredericton’s cross-country ski trails are far from ideal. More than a dozen volunteer shovellers showed up to scoop snow from the woods onto the trails. It’s all in preparation for a weekend packed with events.
