It's incredible what can happen when people are housed and have the appropriate support for their needs.
On July 1st, we recognize that we live and work on stolen land. We also recognize and support Indigenous nations' right to land restitution.
The movement has many meanings, and we suggest educating yourself on them.
Happy July 1st. Please celebrate respectfully.
Last week, we started a new project in , which will eventually be home to five people. Before the space can be occupied, it needs a little TLC, and a group of our leadership team were more than happy to help with .
Providing supportive housing requires a lot more than simply putting heads in beds; people experiencing mental illness and or substance-use issues deserve dignified housing. If we wouldn't feel happy and comfortable living in a space, then our clients shouldn't have to either.
Stay tuned for progress updates!

The 2018 progress 🌈Pride🌈 flag added white, pink, and blue for trans people, and black and brown for people of colour, recognizing the need for stronger representation of diverse individuals within the q***r community.
Pride started as a protest, and there is still much progress to be made, especially for black, brown, Indigenous, and gender-diverse people.

This , let's have the hard conversations about why and how Indigenous people make up a disproportionate amount of those who are unhoused.
June is and . Both present an opportunity to reflect on the contributions of these diverse groups and look toward the much-needed progress each still deserve.
🌟FREE MEALS IN WATERLOO REGION🌟

Heather so eloquently describes why community mental health nursing is such a crucial service in our community. Our clients may not always be best served in a hospital setting, and we're able to create a continuity of care that a hospital cannot.
Thank you, Heather, and all community nurses - at Thresholds and elsewhere - for your dedication to creating positive outcomes for some of our community's most underserved populations.
🌟EMERGENCY SHELTER OPTIONS🌟Whether you're facing a tough time or know someone who is, it's important to know the resources available in our community. Let's spread awareness and support one another through these difficult times.
and are two of the most misunderstood mental health diagnoses. Today, we're looking at myths about psychosis.
Tomorrow is World and Day, so over the next two days, we're busting myths about each.
We have immense for the fact that, after 45 years in operation, we get to continue doing this work.
Q***r people, especially Black and Indigenous Q***r people, are disproportionately represented in homelessness, and they often fall through the cracks in our healthcare system. We must do more to support Q***r folks and those of intersecting experiences.

IF SOMEONE OVERDOSES:
1. Call 911.
2. Administer naloxone if an opioid drug poisoning is suspected.
3. Perform rescue breathing and/or chest compressions.
4. Do not give any other substance(s) because this can make the drug poisoning worse.
5. If no improvements, continue to give naloxone 2-3 minutes apart until paramedics arrive.
6. If you have to leave the person unattended, put them in the recovery position.

Did you know that compassion isn't just about helping others, but also about enhancing YOUR mental well-being? Studies have shown that acts of kindness and empathy can reduce stress, anxiety, and even boost your immune system. Let's make the world, and ourselves, better - one gesture at a time.
When was the last time you prioritized yourself? Practicing self-compassion means approaching ourselves with the same kindness we extend to our family and friends. It’s about acknowledging that everyone experiences challenges, as this is simply part of being human. Download our free resource on self-compassion at https://ow.ly/WXSb50Ry5xu
We surveyed residents of and , and 74% agreed that people experiencing mental illness and addiction face societal stigma. If we can agree on this fact, perhaps we can also agree to extend more kindness and compassion this and beyond.
This , we are joining CMHA Waterloo Wellington, encouraging everyone to offer kindness and compassion toward people experiencing mental illness - it goes a long way!
