BT Bohemian Art
My name is Jacquie and I am a local Bohemian artist. My art is mostly abstract, eclectic, and often cerebral. I happily take commissions.
I sketch, paint, and love designing collage and mixed media creations.
There is a new addition to my mannequin family and she is a rare beauty!
Listening to old rock & roll and working in my studio. Life is good! π
Come check out my 'Break The Rules' canvas and other pieces at CASA in September and October!
In just one month from now, this canvas, along with many other pieces, will be at CASA from September 9th to October 28th. Come join me and all of the other artists who have displays on September 9th for the opening! Cheers!
Recently I purchased a small 7x8 inch block of wood that had a very cute picture painted on it - But my purpose as always, is to repurpose the canvases and objects I buy. I just finished painting over the cute dog and here is what I painted. π
Finished! I love old Canadian money. When I was young (and these bills were in circulation) I always thought that it was so cool my last name was on some of them ;)
I just began working on this collage again. Unfortunately I chose a cheap canvas to work on when I first began - It puckered terribly - I got upset with my silly canvas choice and so I set it aside. But today I decided to work on it again and use it as a prototype for two more similar pieces :)
Progress on 'JAKE' π¨ Last night I decided to do the hair with charcoals - It took a few hours and looked great, but what a mess with charcoal molecules migrating to other parts of the canvas!! So today I meticulously got rid of the charcoal and will now reluctantly paint the hair. Shading and blending with pencils and charcoal is so easy - acrylic paint, not so much for this amateur painter, but I am learning π
A new large canvas (92x122 cm) I began drawing and painting a few days ago - "JAKE". I think she will be too large to have in my show at CASA, but all of my canvases are available for viewing at my studio π¨ Cheers!
Progress on this canvas I am calling "Sarah" π
This is a new canvas I just started to paint. I have never worked on such a tiny canvas! 21x21 cm
Lots of fun, but it presents its own challenges! Tiny brushes and wasted paint!!!π
This morning I have been having fun making Rorschach ink blots for one of my new canvases - "Portals of Perception" - I have cut up an old pair of linen jeans to use for them and for other projects.
This canvas will be one of the canvases in my collection that will be on display at CASA this summer. π¨
I hope you will come and check out all of the art at CASA this summer!! π€
I need a larger studio!!! Working on canvas #5 this evening. I love the dimensions of this one! 122x40 cm or 48x16 inches. Just give me a paint brush, some old time rock and roll to listen to, and I am happy! βΊοΈ
I sometimes have too many ideas in my head at the same time!!! So I have been working on four canvases at the same time and last night I looked at all of them . . . ..... And then decided to begin working on "Young Lady in a Hat" instead, which I had first started months ago! Back then I painted the wooden bevelled canvas black. I then drew an outline of the figure and painted it with gesso then set it aside. So last night I began mixing colors and painting. It is a little challenging painting on the bevelled surface, but I love !!
Just doodling with my new Sharpies this evening and checking out the colors and how they work on different surfaces π
This is a very cool wood canvas that has a beveled surface and is also convex, which gives it a unique look and makes it one of a kind! I painted the surface black, drew a rough sketch on it and now, I have just finished gessoing the sketch! Now comes the fun part! Creating the colors and geometry of the hat and the contours and colors of the face and hair. π
This is the newest canvas I have been working on for a few days π
It just needs a few more details and final touches!
Happy New Year!
Designing a collage art work involves different phases and a lot of time. After choosing and painting (if necessary) the chosen vessel for the collage, I then try to come up with a theme - then I spend many hours choosing and cutting pictures, etc. that may work within the theme. But this is always an ongoing activity, as I continue to cut, create and layout the design. I have spent two days doing just this. I have also been painting Rorschach ink blot images on linen that I want to incorporate into the design. It will take me days before I begin to lay down the final composition. Lots of fun!
This lovely silver manikin was given to me by my beautiful surrogate daughter, Amber Kauvaka. I am excited to begin my next big project - designing her collage! π¨
Painting, drinking java, and listening to retro music on a blustery Friday night! π This painting will be completed by Sunday!
A few weeks ago I picked up three very cool all wood "canvases" - Two convex and one concave - I took them home and painted them black. Because I decided to paint portraits on each of them, I needed to make part of the portrait a white canvas, so to speak. So this is my 'formula'. I sketch the portrait onto the wood canvas and then paint the inside of the sketch with Gesso. I then sketch the portrait again on this new white canvas and begin mixing my colors! This is my own version of 'reverse painting' π
I do not post often, but that does not mean I am not working on canvases and other projects :) I have finished several. Here is one of them - 'Golden Girl" - My Matisse inspired canvas 79x117 cm (31x46 inches). Cheers!
