Artists and writers were asked to interpret the delicate equilibrium that exists in our modern world— examining the balance of power and the stress points that shape our society. This open call sought to engage artists in a reflection on the nuanced dynamics between individuals, communities, and institutions, and to visualize the critical moments when this equilibrium might teeter on the edge of breakdown.

We are delighted that Doug Fishbone is our featured artist to start the year with a bang.

Doug Fishbone is an American artist living in London, who earned an MA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College in 2003. His film and performance work is heavily influenced by the rhythms of stand-up comedy - leading one critic to call him a “stand-up conceptual artist” – and examines some of the more problematic aspects of contemporary life in an amusing and disarming way. His film project Elmina, made collaboratively in Ghana, had its world premiere at Tate Britain and was nominated for an African Movie Academy Award in Nigeria. He is the Course Leader of the Graduate Diploma in Fine Art at Chelsea College and is a trustee of the Yinka Shonibare Foundation in London.

The first biennial 2023 Prague International Art Exhibition opened last night, 18 May with the vernissage and award presentation. More than 300 artworks from 43 nations were submitted for entry, from which 60 artworks from 33 nations were accepted for the online and in-person exhibition.. The exhibition will be open daily, except Sundays, 19 May-1 June from 11:00 -17:00 at Čapek Hall, Anenská 5, Prague 1.

Title: THE ESSENTIA

These visual artefacts are made in the "Age of Anxiety" where truth and lies are indistinguishable, issues and attitudes are binary, and the perils of conflict and intimacy result in the separation of the self from the physical.

The images reflect our anxious world through a process of digital art, photomontage or image dubbing. These visual narratives are sojourns where time and memory, feelings and perspectives, manifest as physical places or situations showing the "Essentia" - the world as it really is.
