Charlene Richmond, Co-Chair of the Avalon Motorcycle Ride For Dad shares her Dad's personal story as he walks through his journey with prostate cancer. She had not heard of prostate cancer, like many, until it impacted her family. Her Dad is a survivor and her personal hero. Charlene shares her father's story with us. She is so incredibly grateful that he had a simple blood test.
"I was first told that my PSA levels were too high and that prostate cancer may be the cause after some routine blood work in December 2008. The doctor told me to come back for blood work again in one month. I went back in January of 2009 and the results were the same. I was then sent to a specialist who ordered a biopsy and I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I then met with an oncologist who reviewed my treatment options. I chose to have radiation and began treatment in St. John's. I also had two scans to find out if the cancer had spread but thankfully it had not. I started radiation in September of 2009 and ended at the end of October. They told me I was cancer free and I guess they were right. I am grateful that I have not had any issues since!"
