Orange Shirt Day was inspired by the story of Phyllis Webstad, who, at six years old, had her new orange shirt taken away on her first day at residential school. Building upon this momentum, September 30 became the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation β a time to acknowledge the lasting trauma of residential and day schools, honour survivors and those who never returned, and commit to truth, justice, and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
We passionately encourage you to learn a piece of Indigenous history and discover how many organizations are contributing to the future welfare of our Indigenous communities.

In advance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, our Orange Neon Hero Hearts are on sale at a special price. Included with every Orange Hero Heart sold is a donation to Indspire β a Canadian charity focused on advancing Indigenous education. Since 1996, it has distributed over $217 million to more than 66,000 students, offering financial support, mentorship, and educational opportunities.
An Orange Heart is just a drop in the bucket of ways to show your support. We passionately encourage you to learn a piece of Indigenous history and discover how many organizations are contributing to a brighter future for our Indigenous communities.

History of the heart symbol (Part 2)β
β
The recognizable heart shape as a symbol of love began to emerge in the Middle Ages. By the 13th and 14th centuries, artists and writers started using the heart symbol in their works, often in romantic contexts. The heart began to appear in medieval manuscripts and artwork, frequently in depictions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Christian iconography, which emphasized divine love and compassion.
History of the heart symbol (Part 1)
The heart icon, symbolizing love and affection, has a rich and evolving history. Its origins can be traced back to ancient times, though its exact beginnings are somewhat obscure. Early representations of the heart shape were not intended to depict the human heart as we understand it today. Instead, these shapes were more symbolic, often resembling fig leaves or ivy leaves, which were associated with fertility and love in ancient cultures.

The discovery of neon dates back to 1898, when British chemists Sir William Ramsay and Morris Travers were experimenting with liquefied air. They discovered a series of noble gases, including neon, while trying to isolate and identify the components of the Earth's atmosphere. By cooling air until it became a liquid and then slowly warming it, they were able to capture the gases released at different temperatures. Neon was identified through its distinct bright red emission spectrum, which set it apart from other gases. This noble gas, named after the Greek word "neos," meaning "new," quickly found applications in lighting and signage, thanks to its ability to emit a brilliant glow when electrically charged. The discovery of neon dates back to 1898, when British chemists Sir William Ramsay and Morris Travers were experimenting with liquefied air. Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day, honouring the rich cultures, heritage, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and MΓ©tis peoples. This day is not only an opportunity for Canadians to recognize and learn about the diverse cultures, traditions, and experiences of Indigenous communities but to also foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Indigenous histories and contemporary issues.
As part of our mission to contribute to worthy community causes, the Orange Neon Hero Heart is dedicated to the Indigenous education charity, Indspire.
Since 1996, Indspire has awarded over $217 million to more than 66,000 students, building a dedicated network of financial aid, mentorship, and educational programs. Its key initiatives seek not only to help youth education, but also to encourage Indigenous teaching careers and engage in the recognition of achievements and foster community engagement.
We encourage you to explore the local events happening today, and read about the important work Indspire is doing to enrich our community. During National Indigenous Peoples Month, Indspire is also matching all donations up to $50,000, doubling their vital efforts of investing in the education of Indigenous youth across Canada.

I've purchased a glowing heart for me (magenta), for my daughter (pink), for my friend (red to match her car) - all here in Toronto, and I delivered a soft white to my sister in Vancouver, BC. She absolutely loved it - perhaps starting a trend out there???

We purchased another warm white heart for a special birthday celebration that hasn't taken place yet so I won't elaborate further. The engraving is perfect and we're really happy with the result! I'm sure the recipient will be ecstatic. This is our fifth purchase - we just love giving them as gifts!

Today is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, a day dedicated to standing against discrimination and violence faced by the LGBTQI+ community worldwide. Since the beginning, we have been proud supporters of Rainbow Railroad, an organization that helps LGBTQI+ individuals escape persecution and find safety and freedom.
Anticipating 15,000 people reaching out for critical help this year alone, we're helping Rainbow Railroad to reach their goal of $2 million in donations by June 30th.
As always, a portion of the sale from every Signature Rainbow Heart, Mini Rainbow Heart, and Neon Q***r Heart sold will be donated to Rainbow Railroad to help them continue their courageous work. Let's ensure that every LGBTQI+ person has the chance to live freely, without fear, and with the love and acceptance they deserve.

I didnβt realize the light was encased in a nice wooden frameβmake it look really nice from inside and out, and blocks a lot of the light you would otherwise see inside. Really well made and the colour is just as it looked on the website.

This is my second purchase of the glowing hearts. I absolutely love what they represent and stand for. What a fabulous purchase. The heart arrived quickly and well packaged. The first heart is in my front window. I want to show it off as it represents so much and is dear to my heart. It leaves a smile on my face every time it is turned on.The second heart, was a gift for my sonβs girlfriendβ¦she loved it and is lit in her window everyday. I will definitely purchase more of these beautiful pieces in the future!

Our intern has been quality testing this new neon for the past week and we're happy to report that although it doesn't shine within the visible light spectrum, it sure makes you feel great! Our intern even looks taller (8 feet 3 inches now) and maybe a bit greener than usual (but that might be from their daily chlorophyll smoothies) after this past week.
