Aidez-nous à accueillir Derek lors du vernissage !
30 novembre - 17h à 20h
4064 blvd St-Laurent
Vernissage: November 30 (5-8pm)
Exhibition: December 1-8 (1-7pm)
Gallery Parfois is pleased to present Derek Bassey’s “Normal People”, the Nigerian artist’s inaugural solo exhibition.
Normal People offers a nuanced reflection on the consequences of “Othering”- a social process of perceiving certain groups or individuals as fundamentally different or alien. Othering often leads to marginalization, dehumanization, or exclusion - based on perceived differences from the dominant societal norm.
As a q***r person who spent his formative years in Nigeria , to his present-day experience of living as a Canadian immigrant, Bassey reflects through art-making. His gloomy figurative paintings draw on themes of: loneliness, intimacy, and identity reconciliation.

Vernissage : 30 novembre (17h-20h)

Gallery Parfois is pleased to present Observing Daydreams, a solo exhibition by Hannaleah Ledwell.
Observing Daydreams explores the relationship between physical touch and emotional intimacy.
Through the lens of haptic memory, the artist recalls interpersonal experiences. Her sensual paintings feature exaggerated gestures and abstracted forms, symbolizing the fragmented nature of memory.
From an intimate embrace to a comforting hug, the exhibition encourages guests to contemplate the significance of physical touch in their own interpersonal networks.
Vernissage: Thursday August 24 (5-9pm)

Our next exhibition: Zachary Irving
Although depicting still images, the artist’s work seamlessly captures movement and rhythm, each piece depicting a sequential narrative.
Through an anxious colour pallete, Irving explores our relationship to the relentless passing of time.

Kevin Beaulieu's "Always in Control"
It was such a treat to have hosted Kevin Beaulieu for an exposition privée.
“Always in Control” offers a unique case study for examining the effects of patriarchal society on the individual.
From a cis white male perspective, Beaulieu’s work is a personal meditation on how societal pressures of gender performativity- particularly in the form of the “traditional male” archetype-impact personal identity.
