Today is our Store Manager, Nicoles, last day at the store before heading off on her maternity leave. We will MISS her SO much! BUT I have exciting news! (See below!)

When I was gearing up to open the store, I reached out to Nicole (a friend!) to inquire if she knew anyone in her circle who might be interested in a Store Management role. To my delight, her response was a resounding 

"Yes, me!”

At the time, Nicole was residing in downtown Toronto but planning a move to Burlington where her husband grew up. Hiring friends can be risky, but Nicole's warm and helpful personality, coupled with her background in culinary and nutrition, along with an eco-conscious mindset, made her the perfect fit. 

Nicole has been by my side since the pre-launch days, accompanying me on this exhilarating journey. Regardless of the challenges we faced, Nicole consistently brings a positive and can-do attitude that uplifts me

Nicole, this is heartfelt thanks for your dedicated efforts, treating the store as if it were your own, and for the genuine care you've extended to both our customers and staff.

Here’s how to make the Matcha Latte Chia Pudding:

1/4 cup chia seeds 🌱
3/4 cup plant based milk of choice
1/2-1 tsp good quality matcha🌱
1-2 tbsp maple syrup 🌱
1/2 tsp vanilla extract 🌱

Topping:
VanillaMalt Cashew Granola🌱
Strawberries, banana & peach

1. Whisk all ingredients together until well combined.
2. Place in the fridge for an hour or overnight.
3. Top with your favourite granola, nuts and/or fruit.

Meet Michelle and her 16 month-old daughter.

When asked why she shops with us, she simply said that her daughter motivates her.

When she was born, she started to think about the harsh chemicals present in products they use and consume - for example their hand wash. She discovered our store and have decided to refill her own containers too!

The fact that she’s not creating more waste is an added benefit of shopping at our store.

Refilling was easy!

I helped her fill her containers which gave her just enough time to pick up some of our Oatbran Sesame Sticks which her little one is snacking on in this picture.

Our plastic waste epidemic is too huge of a problem for one person to think about.
I know!

I also understand this better now since our store opened.

But rather than giving up, think about it this way, think about what YOU can do to help.

These aren’t new to us so, challenge yourself to implement one new thing that you have not done before.

My challenge is to learn how to mend clothes. (I never really took the time to learn how to use that sewing machine that’s been untouched in my storage.🙈)

But… yesterday my 14 year old son showed me how simple it can be. 🤦🏻‍♀️

The zipper on his favourite basketball backpack broke. Instead of asking for a new one, he went on YOU Tube and learned how to fix it. He sewed it back together yesterday himself.

I thought if he can learn, I should be able to as well.

As mentioned in our last post, no one needs to do this perfectly. We can all do something to help our planet. One small act at a time.

Excuse me while I interrupt our program to repost my mom rant:

Being a business owner is a roller coaster ride… but my son, like his older sister is always there to help me keep going. A year ago, he said to me: “Mom, even Elon Musk had failed in business in the past” and encouraged me to keep going.

This is the type of kid he is since he was little.

The type who put his hands in his pockets and tells you not to hold his hands on his first day at pre-school. 🥹🥹

He is always determined on achieving whatever he sets his mind to. Like trying out for basketball rep team in grade 5 without any previous experience playing in a sports team or basketball for that matter. After making the team, COVID happened which meant he couldn’t finish his first season; practice or train for the next season; and play much during the second season. He still made it a goal to just keep improving.

We’re so proud of this grad 8 grad for achieving the goal he set at the beginning of the school year - to receive Athlete of Year, which he accomplished and more!

It’s a great reminder to us all to KEEP GOING 🙌🏼, to keep working hard and stay focused on whatever your goals are.

Mine is to get people inside and outside our neighbourhood to join our shopping revolution: to eat healthier, reduce waste & support local.

We’re not there but we’re going to KEEP GOING until we do! So please spread the word to your family and friend who may not know about us yet.
